The Asymptotic distribution of circles in the orbits of Kleinian groups
Let P be a locally finite circle packing in the plane invariant under a
non-elementary Kleinian group Gamma and with finitely many Gamma-orbits. When
Gamma is geometrically finite, we construct an explicit Borel measure on the
plane which describes the asymptotic distribution of small circles in P,
assuming that either the critical exponent of Gamma is strictly bigger than 1
or P does not contain an infinite bouquet of tangent circles glued at a
parabolic fixed point of Gamma. Our construction also works for P invariant
under a geometrically infinite group Gamma, provided Gamma admits a finite
Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure and the Gamma-skinning size of P is finite.

circle packings, Sierpinski curves,

Solar Grand Minima and random fluctuations in dynamo parameters
We consider to what extent the long-term dynamics of cyclic solar activity in
the form of Grand Minima can be associated with random fluctuations of the
parameters governing the solar dynamo. We consider fluctuations of the
alpha-coefficient in the conventional Parker migratory dynamo, and also in
slightly more sophisticated dynamo models, and demonstrate that they can mimic
the gross features of the phenomenon of the occurrence of Grand Minima over a
suitable parameter range. The temporal distribution of these Grand Minima
appears chaotic, with a more or less exponential waiting time distribution,
typical of Poisson processes. In contrast however, the available reconstruction
of Grand Minima statistics based on cosmogenic isotope data demonstrates
substantial deviations from this exponential law. We were unable to reproduce
the non-Poissonic tail of the waiting time distribution either in the framework
of a simple alpha-quenched Parker model, or in its straightforward
generalization, nor in simple models with feedback on the differential
rotation. We suggest that the disagreement may only be apparent and is
plausibly related to the limited observational data, and that the observations
and results of numerical modeling can be consistent and represent physically

The Detection of Incipient Caries with Tracer Dyes
The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in color contrast produced by the use of a tracer dye in detection of incipient caries lesions with transillumination. Twenty four caries-free first premolars were immersed in an acid gelatin for production of artificial incipient caries lesions. After the lesions had developed, these teeth were photographed by transillumination. Two photographs were taken of each tooth. The first photograph showed the lesion without dye. A blue tracer dye was then added and absorbed by the lesion, and a second photograph was taken. The data on the color difference were obtained by use of a reflectance colorimeter and showed a four-fold increase between the lesion and surrounding area with the dye. A two-way analysis of variance was used for the statistical interpretation. The color difference between the lesion without the dye and then with the dye was significant. The use of a smartphone app and an activity tracker to promote physical activity in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : randomized controlled feasibility study
Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is highly prevalent and significantly affects the daily functioning of patients. Self-management strategies, including increasing physical activity, can help people with COPD have better health and a better quality of life. Digital mobile health (mHealth) techniques have the potential to aid the delivery of self-management interventions for COPD. We developed an mHealth intervention (Self-Management supported by Assistive, Rehabilitative, and Telehealth technologies-COPD [SMART-COPD]), delivered via a smartphone app and an activity tracker, to help people with COPD maintain (or increase) physical activity after undertaking pulmonary rehabilitation (PR).
Objective: This study aimed to determine the feasibility and acceptability of using the SMART-COPD intervention for the self-management of physical activity and to explore the feasibility of conducting a future randomized controlled trial (RCT) to investigate its effectiveness.
Methods: We conducted a randomized feasibility study. A total of 30 participants with COPD were randomly allocated to receive the SMART-COPD intervention (n=19) or control (n=11). Participants used SMART-COPD throughout PR and for 8 weeks afterward (ie, maintenance) to set physical activity goals and monitor their progress. Questionnaire-based and physical activity–based outcome measures were taken at baseline, the end of PR, and the end of maintenance. Participants, and health care professionals involved in PR delivery, were interviewed about their experiences with the technology.
Results: Overall, 47% (14/30) of participants withdrew from the study. Difficulty in using the technology was a common reason for withdrawal. Participants who completed the study had better baseline health and more prior experience with digital technology, compared with participants who withdrew. Participants who completed the study were generally positive about the technology and found it easy to use. Some participants felt their health had benefitted from using the technology and that it assisted them in achieving physical activity goals. Activity tracking and self-reporting were both found to be problematic as outcome measures of physical activity for this study. There was dissatisfaction among some control group members regarding their allocation.
Conclusions: mHealth shows promise in helping people with COPD self-manage their physical activity levels. mHealth interventions for COPD self-management may be more acceptable to people with prior experience of using digital technology and may be more beneficial if used at an earlier stage of COPD. Simplicity and usability were more important for engagement with the SMART-COPD intervention than personalization; therefore, the intervention should be simplified for future use. Future evaluation will require consideration of individual factors and their effect on mHealth efficacy and use; within-subject comparison of step count values; and an opportunity for control group participants to use the intervention if an RCT were to be carried out. Sample size calculations for a future evaluation would need to consider the high dropout rates
Assessment of pollen rewards by foraging bees

terms of production, but also via lost reproductive potential. Modern
angiosperms have evolved various reward strategies to limit these costs, yet
many plant species still offer pollen as a sole or major reward for pollinating
insects.
2. The benefits plants gain by offering pollen as a reward for pollinating are
defined by the behaviour of their pollinators, some of which feed on the pollen
at the flower, while others collect pollen to provision offspring.
3. We explore how pollen impacts on the behaviour and foraging decisions of
pollen-collecting bees, drawing comparisons with what is known for nectar
rewards. This question is of particular interest since foraging bees typically do
not ingest pollen during collection, meaning the sensory pathways involved in
evaluating this resource are not immediately obvious.
4. Previous research focussed on whether foraging bees can determine the quality
of pollen sources offered by different plant species, and attempted to infer the
mechanisms underpinning such evaluations, mainly through observations of
collection preferences in the field
5. More recent experimental research has started to focus on if pollen itself can
mediate the detection of, and learning about, pollen sources and associated
floral cues.
6. We review advancements in the understanding of how bees forage for pollen
and respond to variation in pollen quality, and discuss future directions for
studying how this ancestral floral food reward shapes the behaviour of
pollinating insects

Industrial demand side management status report: Synopsis
Industrial demand side management (DSM) programs, though not as developed or widely implemented as residential and commercial programs, hold the promise of significant energy savings-savings that will benefit industrial firms, utilities and the environment. This paper is a synopsis of a larger research report, Industrial Demand Side Management. A Status Report, prepared for the US Department of Energy. The report provides an overview of and rationale for DSM programs. Benefits and barriers are described, and data from the Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey are used to estimate potential electricity savings from industrial energy efficiency measures. Overcoming difficulties to effective program implementation is worthwhile, since rough estimates indicate a substantial potential for electricity savings. The report categorizes types of DSM programs, presents several examples of each type, and explores elements of successful programs. Two in-depth case studies (of Boise Cascade and of Eli Lilly and Company) illustrate two types of effective DSM programs. Interviews with staff from state public utility commissions indicate the current thinking about the status and future of industrial DSM programs. Finally, the research report also includes a comprehensive bibliography, a description of technical assistance programs, and an example of a methodology for evaluating potential or actual savings from projects
Consensus definition of advance care planning in dementia: A 33-country Delphi study.
Existing advance care planning (ACP) definitional frameworks apply to individuals with decision-making capacity. We aimed to conceptualize ACP for dementia in terms of its definition and issues that deserve particular attention.
Delphi study with phases: (A) adaptation of a generic ACP framework by a task force of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC); (B) four online surveys by 107 experts from 33 countries, September 2021 to June 2022; (C) approval by the EAPC board.
ACP in dementia was defined as a communication process adapted to the person's capacity, which includes, and is continued with, family if available. We identified pragmatic boundaries regarding participation and time (i.e., current or end-of-life care). Three interrelated issues that deserve particular attention were capacity, family, and engagement and communication.
A communication and relationship-centered definitional framework of ACP in dementia evolved through international consensus supporting inclusiveness of persons with dementia and their family.

The Aarhus code is the result of a long development, starting in 1974, and
