Stringent constraint on the scalar-neutrino coupling constant from quintessential cosmology
An extremely light (), slowly-varying scalar
field (quintessence) with a potential energy density as large as 60% of
the critical density has been proposed as the origin of the accelerated
expansion of the Universe at present. The interaction of this smoothly
distributed component with another predominately smooth component, the cosmic
neutrino background, is studied. The slow-roll approximation for generic potentials may then be used to obtain a limit on the scalar-neutrino coupling
constant, found to be many orders of magnitude more stringent than the limits
set by observations of neutrinos from SN 1987A. In addition, if quintessential
theory allows for a violation of the equivalence principle in the sector of
neutrinos, the current solar neutrino data can probe such a violation at the

Heat Transport in a Strongly Overdoped Cuprate: Fermi Liquid and Pure d-wave BCS Superconductor
The transport of heat and charge in the overdoped cuprate superconductor
Tl_2Ba_2CuO_(6+delta) was measured down to low temperature. In the normal
state, obtained by applying a magnetic field greater than the upper critical
field, the Wiedemann-Franz law is verified to hold perfectly. In the
superconducting state, a large residual linear term is observed in the thermal
conductivity, in quantitative agreement with BCS theory for a d-wave
superconductor. This is compelling evidence that the electrons in overdoped
cuprates form a Fermi liquid, with no indication of spin-charge separation.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, published version, title changed, Phys. Rev.

Spin-Triplet Excitons in the Gapped Antiferromagnet BaCuSiO: Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Studies
BaCuSiO, a quantum antiferromagnet with a double-layer
structure of Cu ions in a distorted planar-rectangular coordination and
with a dimerized spin singlet ground state, is studied by means of the electron
paramagnetic resonance technique. It is argued that multiple absorptions
observed at low temperatures are intimately related to a thermally-activated
spin-triplet exciton superstructure. Analysis of the angular dependence of
exciton modes in BaCuSiO allows us to accurately estimate anisotropy
parameters. In addition, the temperature dependence of EPR intensity and

Massless Scalar QED with Non-minimal Chern Simons Coupling
2+1 dimensional massless scalar QED with scalar
self-coupling is modified by the addition of a non- minimal Chern-Simons term
that couples the dual of the electromagnetic field strength to the covariant
current of the complex scalar field. The theory is shown to be fully one- loop
renormalizable. The one loop effective potential for the scalar field gives
rise to spontaneous symmetry breaking which induces masses for both the scalar
and vector fields. At high temperature there is a symmetry restoring phase

Inclusive School Community: Why is it so Complex?
This paper addresses the question: why is it so hard for school communities to respond to diversity in learners, staff and parents in inclusive ways? The authors draw on theory and recent professional experience in Queensland, Australia, to offer four guiding principles that address traditional assumptions about learning that result in inequality of opportunity and outcomes for students. The authors suggest these principles to support the development of a more inclusive school community: (1) develop a learning community incorporating a critical friend; (2) value and collaborate with parents and the broader community; (3) engage students as citizens in school review and develop¬ment; and (4) support teachers’ critical engagement with inclusive ideals and practices. The authors describe how the principles can work in concert in a school community
Evidence for Surface Andreev Bound states in Cuprate Superconductors from Penetration Depth Measurements
Tunneling and theoretical studies have suggested that Andreev bound states
form at certain surfaces of unconventional superconductors. Through studies of
the temperature and field dependence of the in-plane magnetic penetration depth
lambda_ab at low temperature, we have found strong evidence for the presence of
these states in clean single crystal YBCO and BSCCO. Crystals cut to expose a
[110] interface show a strong upturn in lambda_ab at around 7K, when the field
is oriented so that the supercurrents flow around this surface. In YBCO this
upturn is completely suppressed by a field of ~0.1 T.Comment: 4 pages 2 column revtex + 4 postscript figures. Submitted to PR
Absence of non-linear Meissner effect in YBa2Cu3O6.95
We present measurements the field and temperature dependence of the
penetration depth (lambda) in high purity, untwinned single crystals of
YBa2Cu3O6.95 in all three crystallographic directions. The temperature
dependence of lambda is linear down to low temperatures, showing that our
crystals are extremely clean. Both the magnitude and temperature dependence of
the field dependent correction to lambda however, are considerably different
from that predicted from the theory of the non-linear Meissner effect for a
d-wave superconductor (Yip-Sauls theory). Our results suggest that the
Yip-Sauls effect is either absent or is unobservably small in the Meissner

Under-representation of males in the early years: the challenges leaders face
This article investigates why there appears to be an under-representation of males in comparison to their female colleagues in the Early Years (EY) sector, and the perception of male teachers progressing more quickly to leadership positions when they do enter this context. Using case studies of final year male students on an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) undergraduate degree course at one university, we attempt to analyse data on male under-representation in Early Years against contemporary theories of identity, power and leadership. Questionnaires and interviews were conducted with the male sample group and male senior leaders in primary schools to gain an overview as to the leadership support they needed and provided. Our tentative findings suggested that male trainees are happy to work in an Early Years context and take leadership positions, but the challenge for leaders is that male trainees require strong leadership mentoring processes to help overcome perceived contextual barriers
Two-Loop Quantum Corrections of Scalar QED with Non-Minimal Chern-Simons Coupling
We investigate two-loop quantum corrections to non-minimally coupled
Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory. The non-minimal gauge interaction represents the
magnetic moment interaction between the charged scalar and the electromagnetic
field. We show that the one-loop renormalizability of the theory found in
previous work does not survive to the two-loop level. However, with an
appropriate choice of the non-minimal coupling constant, it is possible to
renormalize the two-loop effective potential and hence render it potentially
useful for a detailed analysis of spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by
