Historical Development of U.S. Foreign Policy

If there is any one continuing theme which will run through my remarks, it is that the basic attitudes which Americans bring to perplexing problems of foreign policy has changed remarkably little since the early days of the Republic. The world, however, and especially the United States itself, has changed a good deal, and it is therefore hardly surprising to find that American foreign policy has changed along with it, for if one applies old ideas to new situations, one is likely to get new policies

Nu sub 1 plus nu sub 3 combination band of SO2

The infrared-active vibration-rotation combination band nu sub 1 + nu sub 3 of sulfur dioxide was measured with moderately high spectral resolution. Quantum number identifications of spectral lines were made by comparison with theoretically computed spectra which include the effects of centrifugal distortion. Relative line intensities were also calculated. The band center for nu sub 1 + nu sub 3 was determined to be 2499.60 + or - 0.10/cm

The infrared-active vibration-rotation fundamentals of sulfur dioxide were measured with moderately high spectral resolution. Quantum number assignments were made for spectral lines from J = O to 57, by comparison with theoretically computed spectra which include the effects of centrifugal distortion. The following values for the band centers were determined: nu sub 1 = 1151.65 + or - 0.10/cm, nu sub 2 = 517.75 + or - 0.10/cm, and nu sub 3 = 1362.00 + or - 0.10/cm. Intensities of the observed lines have also been computed. Dipole moment derivatives were obtained

Pasture condition guides for the Murchison River catchment

Knowledge of the pasture resource and its capabilities is essential to sustainable use of the rangelands. Rangeland managers must be able to recognise firstly the different pasture types, and secondly, the differences between present condition classes for each type. Both factors affect the stock carrying capacity, and appropriate pastoral management of a pasture. This guide has been produced for use by pastoralists to assist them to recognise and assess the condition of the perennial pasture resource of their own properties. The guide describes the condition states found in 10 of the most widespread pastures of the Murchison River catchment (Fig. 1). This region has been the subject of a detailed inventory and mapping, as part of the rangeland survey programme conducted in 1985-87 by the departments of Agriculture and Land Administration. Results of this survey provide the basis for this guide. The guide has been produced with funding support from the National Soil Conservation Programme as part of the Murchison Catchment Management Project

Although focused toward the operational meteorological support review and definition of an operational meteorological interactive data display systems (MIDDS) requirements for the Space Meteorology Support Group at NASA/Johnson Space Center, the total operational meteorological support requirements and a systems concept for the MIDDS network integration of NASA and Air Force elements to support the National Space Transportation System are also addressed
