Hydration of a B-DNA Fragment in the Method of Atom-atom Correlation Functions with the Reference Interaction Site Model Approximation
We propose an efficient numerical algorithm for solving integral equations of
the theory of liquids in the Reference Interaction Site Model (RISM)
approximation for infinitely dilute solution of macromolecules with a large
number of atoms. The algorithm is based on applying the nonstationary iterative
methods for solving systems of linear algebraic equations. We calculate the
solvent-solute atom-atom correlation functions for a fragment of the B-DNA
duplex d(GGGGG).d(CCCCC) in infinitely dilute aqueous solution. The obtained
results are compared with available experimental data and results from computer

Biased Brownian motion in extreme corrugated tubes
Biased Brownian motion of point-size particles in a three-dimensional tube
with smoothly varying cross-section is investigated. In the fashion of our
recent work [Martens et al., PRE 83,051135] we employ an asymptotic analysis to
the stationary probability density in a geometric parameter of the tube
geometry. We demonstrate that the leading order term is equivalent to the
Fick-Jacobs approximation. Expression for the higher order corrections to the
probability density are derived. Using this expansion orders we obtain that in
the diffusion dominated regime the average particle current equals the
zeroth-order Fick-Jacobs result corrected by a factor including the corrugation
of the tube geometry. In particular we demonstrate that this estimate is more
accurate for extreme corrugated geometries compared to the common applied
method using the spatially dependent diffusion coefficient D(x,f). The analytic
findings are corroborated with the finite element calculation of a
sinusoidal-shaped tube.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
High-energy threshold reaction rates on 0.8 GeV proton-irradiated thick Pb-target
This works presents results of activation-aided determination of threshold
reaction rates in 92 209Bi, natPb, 197Au, 181Ta, 169Tm, natIn, 93Nb, 64Zn,
65Cu, 63Cu, 59Co, 19F, and 12C samples and in 121 27Al samples. All the samples
were aligned with the proton beam axis inside and outside the demountable 92-cm
thick Pb target of 15-cm diameter assembled of 23 4-cm thick discs. The samples
were placed on 12 target disks to reproduce the long axis distribution of
protons and neutrons. In June 2006, the target was exposed for 18 hours to a
800-MeV proton beam extracted from the ITEP U-10 accelerator. The proton
fluence and the proton beam shape were determined using the 27Al(p,x)7Be
monitor reaction. The reaction rates were determined by the direct
gamma-spectrometry techniques. In total, 1196 gamma-spectra have been measured,
and about 1500 reaction rates determined. The measured reaction rates were
simulated by the MCNPX code using the following databases: ENDF/B6 for neutrons
below 20 MeV, MENDL2 for 20-100 MeV neutrons, and MENDL2P for proton cross
sections up to 200 MeV. An acceptable agreement of simulations with

HST observations of the cometary blue compact dwarf galaxy UGC 4483: a relatively young galaxy?
We present V and I photometry of the resolved stars in the cometary blue
compact dwarf galaxy UGC 4483 using Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary
Camera 2 (WFPC2) images. The resulting I vs. (V-I) color-magnitude diagram
(CMD) reaches limiting magnitudes V = 27.5 mag and I = 26.5 mag for photometric
errors less than 0.2 mag. It reveals not only a young stellar population of
blue main-sequence stars and blue and red supergiants, but also an older
evolved population of red giant and asymptotic giant branch stars. The measured
magnitude I = 23.65 +/- 0.10 mag of the red giant branch tip results in a
distance modulus (m-M) = 27.63 +/- 0.12, corresponding to a distance of 3.4 +/-
0.2 Mpc. The youngest stars are associated with the bright H II region at the
northern tip of the galaxy. The population of older stars is found throughout
the low-surface-brightness body of the galaxy and is considerably more spread
out than the young stellar population, suggesting stellar diffusion. The most
striking characteristics of the CMD of UGC 4483 are the very blue colors of the
red giant stars and the high luminosity of the asymptotic giant branch stars.
Both of these characteristics are consistent with either: 1) a very low
metallicity ([Fe/H] = -2.4 like the most metal-deficient globular clusters) and
an old age of 10 Gyr, or 2) a higher metallicity ([Fe/H] = -1.4 as derived from
the ionized gas emission lines) and a relatively young age of the oldest
stellar population in UGC 4483, not exceeding ~ 2 Gyr. Thus our data do not
exclude the possibility that UGC 4483 is a relatively young galaxy having

Effects of f(R) Model on the Dynamical Instability of Expansionfree Gravitational Collapse
Dark energy models based on f(R) theory have been extensively studied in
literature to realize the late time acceleration. In this paper, we have chosen
a viable f(R) model and discussed its effects on the dynamical instability of
expansionfree fluid evolution generating a central vacuum cavity. For this
purpose, contracted Bianchi identities are obtained for both the usual matter
as well as dark source. The term dark source is named to the higher order
curvature corrections arising from f(R) gravity. The perturbation scheme is
applied and different terms belonging to Newtonian and post Newtonian regimes
are identified. It is found that instability range of expansionfree fluid on
external boundary as well as on internal vacuum cavity is independent of
adiabatic index but depends upon the density profile, pressure

Residual nuclide formation in 206,207,208,nat-Pb and 209-Bi induced by 0.04-2.6 GeV Protons as well as in 56-Fe induced by 0.3-2.6 GeV Protons
5972 independent and cumulative yields of radioactive residuals nuclei have
been measured in 55 thin 206,207,208,nat-Pb and 209-Bi targets irradiated by
0.04, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15, 0.25, 0.6, 0.8, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, and 2.6 GeV protons.
Besides, 219 yields have been measured in 0.3, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.6 GeV
proton-irradiated 56-Fe target. The protons were extracted from the ITEP U-10
synchrotron. The measured data are compared with experimental results obtained
elsewhere and with theoretical calculations by LAHET, MCNPX, CEM03, LAQGSM03,
CASCADE, CASCADO, and LAHETO codes. The predictive power was found to be
different for each of the codes tested, but was satisfactory on the whole in
the case of spallation products. At the same time, none of the codes can
de-scribe well the product yields throughout the whole product mass range, and

VV124 (UGC4879): A new transitional dwarf galaxy in the periphery of the Local Group
We present the first resolved-star photometry of VV124 (UGC4879) and find
that this is the most isolated dwarf galaxy in the periphery of the Local
Group. Based on imaging and spectroscopic follow up observations with the 6m
BTA telescope, we resolve VV124 into 1560 stars down to the limiting magnitude
levels of V~25.6 and I~23.9. The young blue stellar populations and emission
gas are found near the core, but noticeably displaced from the center of the
galaxy as traced by dominant evolved red stars. The mean radial velocity
derived from the spectra of two Blue Supergiant stars, an HII region and
unresolved continuum sources is -80+/-10 km/s. The evolved ``red tangle''
stellar populations, which contains the red giant branch (RGB), are identified
at large galactocentric radii. We use the I-band luminosity function to
determine the distance based on the Tip of RGB method, 1.1+/-0.1 Mpc. This is
~10 times closer than the values usually assumed in the literature, and we
provide revised distance dependent parameters. From the mean (V-I) color of the
RGB, we estimate the mean metallicity as [Fe/H]~-1.37 dex. Despite of its
isolated location, the properties of VV124 are clearly not those of a galaxy in
formation, but rather similar to a transitional dIrr/dSph type.Comment: 4 pages, submitted to MNRAS Letter
An effect of anti-stress feed additives on broiler productivity and meat quality
The paper presents the study on an impact of feed additives Peak anti-stress and SPAO (SPAO-complex) with different lithium content on meat productivity and meat quality of broiler chickens. The feed additives exert a pronounced metabolic effect, have adaptogen properties and allow forming a mechanism that facilitates compensation of the expenditure of the body, which significantly increases upon stress development. It was established that the average daily gain of the broiler chickens increased by 1.8% and 4.3% on the background of using SPAO-complex and Peak anti-stress, respectively, compared to the broiler chickens that did not receive the feed additives in the daily diet. It was shown that addition of feed additives with lithium into a diet led to an improvement of the indices of broiler meat productivity and meat quality: a level of yield of the carcasses of the 1st category increased up to 56.2–79.1%, high organoleptic indices of meat were ensured, the protein content in white and red chicken meat increased and functional-technological properties of minced meat improved. The use of feed additives ensured profitability of industrial poultry production; the highest indices of profitability were established upon introduction of the feed additive Peak anti-stress into a diet — up to 8.67 rubles per each ruble of expenses. The obtained results of the study should be taken into consideration in the technological processes when raising broiler chickens
