Diagnosis of anaplastic large-cell lymphoma in a dog using CD30 immunohistochemistry
Anaplastic large-cell lymphoma or null-cell lymphoma is a clinical entity reported in people, classified according to the unique appearance of large pleomorphic cells that express CD30. Null-cell lymphoma has also been described in dogs when neither CD3 nor CD79α is expressed by the tumor. We describe a case of lymphoma in the dog in which neoplastic cells did not express routine B- or T-lymphocyte markers on flow cytometry or immunohistochemistry; however, cells immunohistochemically labeled for CD30. The dog in our case died 5 mo after initial presentation, confirming a poor prognosis. Identification of further similar cases in dogs would provide additional prognostic information for this subset of lymphomas. CD30 may also serve as a potential therapeutic target in anaplastic large-cell lymphomas
Serum anti-Müllerian hormone concentrations before and after treatment of an ovarian granulosa cell tumour in a cat
Case summary A 15-year-old female cat was presented for investigation of progressive behavioural changes, polyuria, polydipsia and periuria. An ovarian granulosa cell tumour was identified and the cat underwent therapeutic ovariohysterectomy (OHE). The cat’s clinical signs resolved, but 6 months later it was diagnosed as having an anaplastic astrocytoma and was euthanased. Serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentration prior to OHE was increased vs a control group of entire and neutered female cats. Following OHE, serum AMH concentration decreased to <1% of the original value. Relevance and novel information Serum AMH measurement may represent a novel diagnostic and monitoring tool for functional ovarian neoplasms in cats
(2E)-N-(3,5-Dibromo-4-methoxyphenyl)-2-(hydroxyimino)acetamide
The title compound, C9H8Br2N2O3, is planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.030 Å) with the exception of the terminal methyl group which lies out of the plane [1.219 (3) Å]. The conformation about the C=N double bond [1.268 (3) Å] is E. An intramolecular N—H⋯N hydrogen bond occurs. Linear supramolecular chains along the b axis mediated by O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonding interactions feature in the crystal structure. These chains are also stabilized by weak C—H⋯N contacts
Light hadron spectroscopy with O(a) improved dynamical fermions
We present the first results for the static quark potential and the light
hadron spectrum using dynamical fermions at using an O(a) improved
Wilson fermion action together with the standard Wilson plaquette action for
the gauge part. Sea quark masses were chosen such that the pseudoscalar-vector
mass ratio, m_PS/m_V$, varies from 0.86 to 0.67. Finite-size effects are
studied by using three different volumes, 8^3\cdot 24, 12^3\cdot 24 and
16^3\cdot 24. Comparing our results to previous ones obtained using the
quenched approximation, we find evidence for sea quark effects in quantities
like the static quark potential and the vector-pseudoscalar hyperfine

Quenched QCD with O(a) improvement: I. The spectrum of light hadrons
We present a comprehensive study of the masses of pseudoscalar and vector
mesons, as well as octet and decuplet baryons computed in O(a) improved
quenched lattice QCD. Results have been obtained using the non-perturbative
definition of the improvement coefficient c_sw, and also its estimate in
tadpole improved perturbation theory. We investigate effects of improvement on
the incidence of exceptional configurations, mass splittings and the parameter
J. By combining the results obtained using non-perturbative and tadpole
improvement in a simultaneous continuum extrapolation we can compare our
spectral data to experiment. We confirm earlier findings by the CP-PACS
Collaboration that the quenched light hadron spectrum agrees with experiment at

Effects of non-perturbatively improved dynamical fermions in QCD at fixed lattice spacing
We present results for the static inter-quark potential, lightest glueballs,
light hadron spectrum and topological susceptibility using a non-perturbatively
improved action on a lattice at a set of values of the bare
gauge coupling and bare dynamical quark mass chosen to keep the lattice size
fixed in physical units ( fm). By comparing these measurements with a
matched quenched ensemble, we study the effects due to two degenerate flavours
of dynamical quarks. With the greater control over residual lattice spacing
effects which these methods afford, we find some evidence of charge screening
and some minor effects on the light hadron spectrum over the range of quark
masses studied (). More substantial differences between
quenched and unquenched simulations are observed in measurements of topological

Thermal denaturation of A-DNA
The DNA molecule can take various conformational forms. Investigations
focus mainly on the so-called ‘B-form’, schematically drawn in the famous
paper by Watson and Crick [1]. This is the usual form of DNA in a biological
environment and is the only form that is stable in an aqueous environment.
Other forms, however, can teach us much about DNA. They have the same
nucleotide base pairs for ‘building blocks’ as B-DNA, but with different
relative positions, and studying these forms gives insight into the interactions
between elements under conditions far from equilibrium in the B-form.
Studying the thermal denaturation is particularly interesting because it provides
a direct probe of those interactions which control the growth of the
fluctuations when the ‘melting’ temperature is approached. Here we report
such a study on the ‘A-form’ using calorimetry and neutron scattering. We
show that it can be carried further than a similar study on B-DNA, requiring
the improvement of thermodynamic models for DNA
Assessment of shoulder position variation and its impact on IMRT and VMAT doses for head and neck cancer
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>For radiotherapy of the head and neck, 5-point mask immobilization is used to stabilize the shoulders. Still, the daily position of the shoulders during treatment may be different from the position in the treatment plan despite correct isocenter setup. The purpose of this study was to determine the interfractional displacement of the shoulders relative to isocenter over the course of treatment and the associated dosimetric effect of this displacement.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The extent of shoulder displacements relative to isocenter was assessed for 10 patients in 5-point thermoplastic masks using image registration and daily CT-on-rails scans. Dosimetric effects on IMRT and VMAT plans were evaluated in Pinnacle based on simulation CTs modified to represent shoulder shifts between 3 and 15 mm in the superior-inferior, anterior-posterior, and right-left directions. The impact of clinically observed shoulder shifts on the low-neck dose distributions was examined.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Shoulder motion was 2-5 mm in each direction on average but reached 20 mm. Superior shifts resulted in coverage loss, whereas inferior shifts increased the dose to the brachial plexus. These findings were generally consistent for both IMRT and VMAT plans. Over a course of observed shifts, the dose to 99% of the CTV decreased by up to 101 cGy, and the brachial plexus dose increased by up to 72 cGy.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>he position of the shoulder affects target coverage and critical structure dose, and may therefore be a concern during the setup of head and neck patients, particularly those with low neck primary disease.</p
Should Hypopharynx Cancer Continue to be Included in “Multi-Head and Neck” Trials within the RTOG?
Purpose/Objective(s): It is becoming increasingly evident that the behavior of cancers from different subsites of the head and neck varies greatly despite similar histologic appearance. As current head and neck trials are focusing more on a risk-based approach, it is unclear into which trials patients with hypopharyngeal primaries (HP) should be included. Thus, we undertook to examine whether patients with HP perform as well as oropharyngeal primaries (OP) in the definitive setting and whether HP perform as well as larynx primaries (LX) in the post-operative setting in the multi-institutional setting.
