Spin Echo Decay in a Stochastic Field Environment
We derive a general formalism with which it is possible to obtain the time
dependence of the echo size for a spin in a stochastic field environment. Our
model is based on ``strong collisions''. We examine in detail three cases
where: (I) the local field is Ising-like, (II) the field distribution is
continuous and has a finite second moment, and (III) the distribution is
Lorentzian. The first two cases show a T2 minimum effect and are exponential in
time cubed for short times. The last case can be approximated by a
phenomenological stretched exponential.Comment: 11 pages + 3 postscript figure
The Heideggerian co-ontology is slipped, by the philosophy of Jean-Luc Nancy, along the inclined plane of the lived and concrete life of human-beingsin- relationship who cohabit the social space, a dislocation that takes place in the sign of porosity and penetrability of the âcon-beingâ which represents the keystone of his book, Sexistence. In this text, the body, the touch, the sex are protrusions that dot a conceptual map that is the result of a long philosophical militancy marked by an authentic haptic ontology, a sign of a thought of relationality, interdependence and sexistencial vulnerability that connotes the bodies in contact that we all are. Taking up the lesson of Derrida who reinterprets Dasein as âdisseminationâ, Nancy elaborates a trans-ontology through which the r-existence (Resistance) of sexistence is manifested, that is to say that stubborn rejection of distinct and different bodies to the homologation and uniformity of the identical and of the identity shared by trans-feminism which makes its strong point of the inexhaustible combinatorics of the sexes. Thus, both for the sexistencial approach and for the transfeminist one, at the heart of every theory are the lives and practices of distinct and different sexual bodies in relation
The juxtaposition that Jean-Luc Nancy makes between the âindeterminacy of the driveâ and the âinadequacy of the languageâ that attempts to describe it, lumps sense and sex (as well as the sense of sex) together in the same âdestinerrancy,â as both unattainable and incommensurable. The elusiveness of sex and language marks the erotic ontology or sexistential philosophy with which Nancy seeks to account for the relationship of intimacy between persons as a perspicuous, interactive and transformative event. In this sense, a reading of the concept of âsexistenceâ through that of âerotic powerâ developed by Audre Lorde demonstrates the genuinely ontological centering and immense transformative potential that, for both the French philosopher and the African-American lesbian-feminist theorist, the sexual experience that connects human beings has. Nancyâs ability to think sex beyond genders (he refers in Sexistence precisely to Lordeâs âerotic powerâ as a revolutionary and liberating event) thus makes a mark on the relationship rather than on the subjects who engage it
Procedures for the salvage and necropsy of the dugong (dugong dugon)
This manual provides a detailed guide for dugong (Dugong dugon) carcass handling and
necropsy procedures. It is intended to be used as a resource and training guide for anyone
involved in dugong incidents, including management officers, biologists, parks and wildlife
field staff, and veterinarians and pathologists who may lack dugong expertise. Because of the
wide range of professionals this book is targeting, information and the use of technical terms is
necessarily extensive. Section 8 provides definitions of various terms used and italicised

Reduction of Movement in Neurological Diseases: Effects on Neural Stem Cells Characteristics.
Both astronauts and patients affected by chronic movement-limiting pathologies face impairment in muscle and/or brain performance. Increased patient survival expectations and the expected longer stays in space by astronauts may result in prolonged motor deprivation and consequent pathological effects. Severe movement limitation can influence not only the motor and metabolic systems but also the nervous system, altering neurogenesis and the interaction between motoneurons and muscle cells. Little information is yet available about the effect of prolonged muscle disuse on neural stem cells characteristics. Our in vitro study aims to fill this gap by focusing on the biological and molecular properties of neural stem cells (NSCs). Our analysis shows that NSCs derived from the SVZ of HU mice had shown a reduced proliferation capability and an altered cell cycle. Furthermore, NSCs obtained from HU animals present an incomplete differentiation/maturation. The overall results support the existence of a link between reduction of exercise and muscle disuse and metabolism in the brain and thus represent valuable new information that could clarify how circumstances such as the absence of load and the lack of movement that occurs in people with some neurological diseases, may affect the properties of NSCs and contribute to the negative manifestations of these conditions
Spectroscopy of P using the one-proton knockout reaction
The structure of P was studied with a one-proton knockout reaction
at88~MeV/u from a S projectile beam at NSCL. The rays from
thedepopulation of excited states in P were detected with GRETINA,
whilethe P nuclei were identified event-by-event in the focal plane of
theS800 spectrograph. The level scheme of P was deduced up to 7.5 MeV
using coincidences. The observed levels were attributed to
protonremovals from the -shell and also from the deeply-bound
orbital. The orbital angular momentum of each state was derived from the
comparisonbetween experimental and calculated shapes of individual
(-gated)parallel momentum distributions. Despite the use of different
reactions andtheir associate models, spectroscopic factors, , derived
from theS knockout reaction agree with those obtained earlier
fromS(,\nuc{3}{He}) transfer, if a reduction factor , as
deducedfrom inclusive one-nucleon removal cross sections, is applied to the
knockout transitions. In addition to the expected proton-hole configurations,
other states were observedwith individual cross sections of the order of
0.5~mb. Based on their shiftedparallel momentum distributions, their decay
modes to negative parity states, their high excitation energy (around 4.7~MeV)
and the fact that they were notobserved in the (,\nuc{3}{He}) reaction, we
propose that they may resultfrom a two-step mechanism or a nucleon-exchange
reaction with subsequent neutronevaporation. Regardless of the mechanism, that
could not yet be clarified, thesestates likely correspond to neutron core
excitations in \nuc{35}{P}. Thisnewly-identified pathway, although weak, offers
the possibility to selectivelypopulate certain intruder configurations that are
otherwise hard to produceand identify.Comment: 5 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in Physical Review
Characteristics of neonatal GBS disease during a multicentre study (2007-2010) and in the year 2012
iNTRODUCTION: The characteristics of Group B Streptococcal (GBS) early onset (EOD) and late onset (LOD) neonatal infections in Italy were analyzed. Two periods were considered, a first 3-years period (2007-2010), when notification of GBS infections was enforced under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Health, and a second 1 year period (2012) when reporting on neonatal GBS disease continued on voluntary basis. METHODS: A standardized form was used to collect data on cases of neonatal GBS disease. They included both maternal and neonatal data. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The two surveys underlined that preterm deliveries, precipitous labor and negatively GBS screened mothers are common causes of EOD occurrence, possibly explained by inadequate, or lack of, intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. Nevertheless, measures for reducing prevention failures and EOD incidence by an higher adherence to prevention strategies, as the Centre for Disease Control recommendations, are still possible and should be encouraged
