Theoretical face pressure and drag characteristics of forward-facing steps in supersonic turbulent boundary layers

    Get PDF
A theoretical investigation of the pressure distributions and drag characteristics was made for forward facing steps in turbulent flow at supersonic speeds. An approximate solution technique proposed by Uebelhack has been modified and extended to obtain a more consistent numerical procedure. A comparison of theoretical calculations with experimental data generally indicated good agreement over the experimentally available range of ratios of step height to boundary layer thickness from 7 to 0.05

An approach to developing a Web site for SME

    Get PDF
Web site design and implementation is very often seen within companies and businesses as a 'technical task' whose realisation can improve their business operations dramatically and swiftly. At the same time, they do not consider any additional investment or research prior to the design and implementation of their Web site. Using a case study of a small to medium sized enterprise (SME) and its local operativity at Gatwick Airport (Crawley) in West Sussex, UK, we describe our approach to developing a Web site based on extensive surveys, which helped us to reveal the feasibility, purpose and operability of the company's Web site design. The company is called Aviation Aircraft Services (AAS), and is a SME that relies on major contracts from British Airways for cutlery, blanket and linen packaging

Quantum Random Walks do not need a Coin Toss

Classical randomized algorithms use a coin toss instruction to explore different evolutionary branches of a problem. Quantum algorithms, on the other hand, can explore multiple evolutionary branches by mere superposition of states. Discrete quantum random walks, studied in the literature, have nonetheless used both superposition and a quantum coin toss instruction. This is not necessary, and a discrete quantum random walk without a quantum coin toss instruction is defined and analyzed here. Our construction eliminates quantum entanglement from the algorithm, and the results match those obtained with a quantum coin toss instruction.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, RevTeX (v2) Expanded to include relation to quantum walk with a coin. Connection with Dirac equation pointed out. Version to be published in Phys. Rev.

Global monopole as dual-vacuum solution in Kaluza-Klein spacetime

    Get PDF
By application of the duality transformation, which implies interchange of active and passive electric parts of the Riemann curvature (equivalent to interchange of Ricci and Einstein tensors) it is shown that the global monopole solution in the Kaluza-Klein spacetime is dual to the corresponding vacuum solution. Further we also obtain solution dual to flat space which would in general describe a massive global monopole in 4-dimensional Euclidean space and would have massless limit analogus to the 4-dimensional dual-flat solution.Comment: 8 pages, LaTEX versio

Effect of agro-input management practices on yield of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) under vertisols of Chhattisgarh, India

    Get PDF
A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of agro-input management practices on yield of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) at the Instructional cum Research Farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, (C.G.) during Rabi 2015-16. Different agro input management practices had significant (P=0.05) effect on growth, yield attributes and yield of linseed. However, seed rates did not give significant influence on seed yield. Whereas, application of RDF + FYM placement in rows @ 5 t ha-1 (N3) recorded significantly (P=0.05) higher growth parameters viz. plant height (88.44 cm), primary branches plant-1 (3.83), secondary branches plant-1 (23.39), dry matter accumulation (6.76 g plant-1) and yield attributes viz. capsules plant-1 (30.86), seeds capsule-1(7.63), seeds plant-1 (235.32), seed yield (2100 kg ha-1) and stover yield (4885 kg ha-1). In case of foliar spray, application of 2 % urea at 15, 40, 65 and 90 DAS (F3) gave significantly higher growth parameters viz. plant height (88.37 cm), primary branches plant-1(3.82), secondary branches plant-1 (23.68), dry matter accumulation (6.59 g plant-1) and yield attributes viz. capsules plant-1(31.74), seeds capsule-1(7.63), seeds plant-1 (241.38), seed yield (2089 kg ha-1) and stover yield (4772 kg ha-1). Interaction among seed rate 30 kg ha-1 (S2) X RDF 60:30:30 N: P: K kg ha-1 (N1) with foliar application of 2 % urea at 15, 40, 65 and 90 DAS (F3) (S2 XN1X F3) recorded the highest benefit-cost ratio (4.39). Line placement of FYM was better than broadcasting in terms of seed yield; and foliar application of urea was economical than Nitrobenzene
