    59Co NMR study of the Co states in superconducting and anhydrous cobaltates

    59^{59}Co NMR spectra in oriented powders of Na0.35_{0.35}CoO2_{2} and in its hydrated superconducting phase (HSC) Na0.35_{0.35}CoO2_{2},1.3H2_{2}O reveal a single electronic Co state with identical TT independent NMR shift tensor. These phases differ markedly from Na0.7_{0.7}CoO2_{2}, in which we resolve 3 types of Co sites. The large T variation of their spin susceptibilities χs\chi ^{s} and the anisotropy of the orbital susceptibility χorb\chi ^{orb} allow us to conclude that charge disproportionation occurs, in a non magnetic Co3+^{3+} and two magnetic sites with about 0.3 and 0.7 holes in the t2gt_{2g} multiplet. The data are consistent with those for the single Co site in the anhydrous and HSC phase assuming the expected Co3.65+^{3.65+} charge.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Phys.     Electronic structure of GaAs1-xNx alloy by soft-X-ray absorption and emission: Origin of the reduced optical efficiency

    The local electronic structure of N atoms in a diluted GaAs1-xNx (x=3%) alloy, in view of applications in optoelectronics, is determined for the first time using soft-X-ray absorption (SXA) and emission (SXE). Deviations from crystalline GaN, in particular in the conduction band, are dramatic. Employing the orbital character and elemental specificity of the SXE/SXA spectroscopies, we identify a charge transfer from the N atoms at the valence band maximum, reducing the overlap with the wavefunction in conduction band minimum, as the main factor limiting the optical efficiency of GaAs1-xNx alloys.     The process of changing isotopic composition of the lithium and magnesium salts was studied by using the process of zone melting. It was founded in the paper that the process of separation of the lithium isotopes is more effective than for magnesium isotopes when the conditions of process were the same.     A Long-wave Action of Spin Hamiltonians and the Inverse Problem of the Calculus of Variations

    We suggest a method of derivation of the long-wave action of the model spin Hamiltonians using the non-linear partial differential equations of motions of the individual spins. According to the Vainberg's theorem the set of these equations are (formal) potential if the symmetry analysis for the Frechet derivatives of the system is true. The case of Heisenberg (anti)ferromagnets is considered. It is shown the functional whose stationary points are described by the equations coincides with the long-wave action and includes the non-trivial topological term (Berry phase). © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V

    Quantum ergodicity for Pauli Hamiltonians with spin 1/2

    Quantum ergodicity, which expresses the semiclassical convergence of almost all expectation values of observables in eigenstates of the quantum Hamiltonian to the corresponding classical microcanonical average, is proven for non-relativistic quantum particles with spin 1/2. It is shown that quantum ergodicity holds, if a suitable combination of the classical translational dynamics and the spin dynamics along the trajectories of the translational motion is ergodic.Comment: 20 pages, no figure
