Ultrasonic Testing - Reconstruction of Reflectors from Time-Delay and Amplitude-Locus Curves

For ultrasonic testing (pulse-echo or tandem) the surface of a test piece is scanned by a probe or a probe array. Time-delay and amplitude for each pulse, locus of incidence, reflector inside the beam and wave path, are measured. Shape and position of reflectors are reconstructed from time-delay locus curves. In addition, isolated amplitude-locus curves derived from measurements are compared to calculations for several reflector modes. The best fitting model is selected. Diameter or width and inclination are determined

Clarke in der Zeitschrift „Wireless World" einen Artikel unter dem Titel „Extra-terrestrial Relays", der sich detailliert mit den kommunikativen Möglichkeiten künstlicher Relaisstationen im erdnahen Raum befaßte. Zwölf Jahre später wurde der erste Sputnik in eine Umlaufbahn geschossen. Nach weiteren zwölf Jahren ergibt sich heute das Bild einer „tremendously powerful extension of telecommunication"3, deren technische Perfektion einen Fortschritts-Enthusiasmus weckte, wie er bisher nur dem 19. Jahrhundert eignete. Denn ungelöst sind die meisten der mit der Anwendung der Satellitentechnik verbundenen Fragen auf sozio-ökonomischem und sozio-kulturellem Gebiet sowie im international-rechtlichen Bereich. But for nearly ten years they refused to acquaint themselves with the future possibilities of sate!lite communication. The article describes the history and the complexity of international satellite „business", shows the actual state of affairs and indicates the position of the Churches. After all with the foundation of an Ecumenical Satellite Commission they made use of their least chance. This commission should not aim at launching Church-owned satellites.There are to solve more important problems such as to encourage a free two-flow of informations, to ensure generous consideration for the needs of developing countries, to contribute to true cultural exchange, to assist developing countries in their future communication programmes. But first of all Churches have to explore the possibilities of improving their present conventional communication facilities by means of satellite transmission and to train personnel for the needs of the developing countries

Katholische Presse - Brücke zur Solidarität

Auf meinem Schreibtisch steht seit Wochen eine Postkarte mit einer Karikatur, die mir deshalb so großen Spaß macht, weil sie das überzogene Sendungsbewußtsein der Werbebranche auf die spitze Feder nimmt. Zu sehen ist da ein junger Mann - offenbar Werbetexter von Beruf, der an einem Schreibtisch voller Gummibärchen über dem treffenden Slogan brütet. Vor ihm steht, mit erhobenem Zeigefinger, sein Chefund sagt per Sprechblase: "Merken Sie sich, Mann, wir verkaufen keine Gummibärchen, wir habeneine Message." Die Geschichte geht noch weiter. Als ich mich auf dieses Referat vorbereitete, schautemir meine Tochter über die Schulter, sah das Thema und meinte trocken: "Da steckst Du aber ganz schön in der Message drin!" Übrigens eine schonende Ausdrucksweise; denn in ihrem 17jährigen Umgangsdeutsch hätte dies normalerweise gelautet: "Da haben sie Dir aber ein Laber-Thema angedreht." (...)

Franz KroosVor sieben Jahren konnten wir bereits sein Lebenswerk würdigen, als er das siebte Jahrzehnt vollendete. Mit der Gratulation verbanden wir die Hoffnung, zum 80. Geburtstag ,~eiteres über seine Schaffenskraft berichten zu können': Es kam nicht mehr dazu. Franz Kroos starb am 18. Juli 1985 in seinem Heimatort Warendorf. Als wir ihn etwa einen Monat vor seinem Tod besuchten, war er schon von schwerer Krankheit gezeichnet. Aber auf einem Tisch in Griffnähe des Bettes, aus dem er sich nicht mehr ohne fremde Hilfe erheben konnte, lagen Briefe, Manuskripte und Berge von Quellenmaterial zur Geschichte seiner Heimatpfarrei St. Laurentius in Warendorf. Luminescence tuning of MOFs via ligand to metal and metal to metal energy transfer by co-doping of 2∞[Gd2Cl6(bipy)3]*2bipy with europium and terbium

The series of anhydrous lanthanide chlorides LnCl3, Ln=Pr–Tb, and 4,4'-bipyridine (bipy) constitute isotypic MOFs of the formula 2∞[Ln2Cl6(bipy)3]*2bipy. The europium and terbium containing compounds both exhibit luminescence of the referring trivalent lanthanide ions, giving a red luminescence for Eu3+ and a green luminescence for Tb3+ triggered by an efficient antenna effect of the 4,4'-bipyridine linkers. Mixing of different lanthanides in one MOF structure was undertaken to investigate the potential of this MOF system for colour tuning of the luminescence. Based on the gadolinium containing compound, co-doping with different amounts of europium and terbium proves successful and yields solid solutions of the formula 2∞[Gd2-x-yEuxTbyCl6(bipy)3]*2bipy (1–8), 0≤x, y≤0.5. The series of MOFs exhibits the opportunity of tuning the emission colour in-between green and red. Depending on the atomic ratio Gd:Eu:Tb, the yellow region was covered for the first time for an oxygen/carboxylate-free MOF system. In addition to a ligand to metal energy transfer (LMET) from the lowest ligand-centered triplet state of 4,4'-bipyridine, a metal to metal energy transfer (MMET) between 4f-levels from Tb3+ to Eu3+ is as well vital for the emission colour. However, no involvement of Gd3+ in energy transfers is observed rendering it a suitable host lattice ion and connectivity centre for diluting the other two rare earth ions in the solid state. The materials retain their luminescence during activation of the MOFs for microporosity
