Nonmetallic impurities improve mechanical properties of vapor-deposited tungsten
Mechanical properties of vapor deposited tungsten are improved by selective incorporation of various nonmetallic impurities. Addition of trace quantities of carbon, nitrogen, or oxygen can significantly increase both low and high temperature yield strength without greatly affecting ductile-to-brittle transition temperature

The authors claim to have found a "proper", "gauge-invariant" definition of a
charged-particle's momentum in gauge theory, which is more "superior" than the
textbook version. I show that their result arises from a misunderstanding of
gauge symmetry by generalizing the Coulomb gauge result indiscriminately and is
not physical
Emergent electrodynamics from the Nambu model for spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking
After imposing the Gauss law constraint as an initial condition upon the
Hilbert space of the Nambu model, in all its generic realizations, we recover
QED in the corresponding non-linear gauge A_{\mu}A^{\mu}=n^{2}M^{2}. Our result
is non-perturbative in the parameter M for n^{2}\neq 0 and can be extended to
the n^{2}=0 case. This shows that in the Nambu model, spontaneous Lorentz
symmetry breaking dynamically generates gauge invariance, provided the Gauss
law is imposed as an initial condition. In this way electrodynamics is
recovered, with the photon being realized as the Nambu-Goldstone modes of the
spontaneously broken symmetry, which finally turns out to be non-observableComment: 17 page
Low Energy Constants from High Energy Theorems
New constraints on resonance saturation in chiral perturbation theory are
investigated. These constraints arise because each consistent saturation scheme
must map to a representation of the full QCD chiral symmetry group. The
low-energy constants of chiral perturbation theory are then related by a set of
mixing angles. It is shown that vector meson dominance is a consequence of the
fact that nature has chosen the lowest-dimensional nontrivial chiral
representation. It is further shown that chiral symmetry places an upper bound
on the mass of the lightest scalar in the hadron spectrum.Comment: 11 pages TeX and mtexsis.te
Dynamical Backreaction in Robertson-Walker Spacetime
The treatment of a quantized field in a curved spacetime requires the study
of backreaction of the field on the spacetime via the semiclassical Einstein
equation. We consider a free scalar field in spatially flat Robertson-Walker
space time. We require the state of the field to allow for a renormalized
semiclassical stress tensor. We calculate the sigularities of the stress tensor
restricted to equal times in agreement with the usual renormalization
prescription for Hadamard states to perform an explicit renormalization. The
dynamical system for the Robertson Walker scale parameter coupled to the
scalar field is finally derived for the case of conformal and also general

Associated tW production at LHC: a complete calculation of electroweak supersymmetric effects at one loop
We compute, in the MSSM framework, the total electroweak contributions at one
loop for the process pp -> tW+X, initiated by the parton process bg -> tW. The
supersymmetric effect is analyzed for various choices of the SUSY benchmark
points. Choosing realistic unpolarized and polarized experimental quantities,
we show the size of the various effects and discuss their dependence on the

The strong-CP question in SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N models
We analyze two recent models based on the gauge group
SU(3)SU(3)U(1) where each generation is not
anomaly-free, but anomaly cancels when three generations are taken into
account. We show that the most general Yukawa couplings of these models admit
of a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. This symmetry can be extended to the entire
Lagrangian by using extra fields in a very elegant way so that the resulting
