    Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Techniques in Reducing Auditory Hallucination among Clients with Chronic Schizophrenia

    AIM: To find out the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral techniques in reducing auditory hallucinations among clients with chronic schizophrenia. METHOD: Baseline and outcome measures of auditory hallucination were determined through PSYRATS scale for evaluation of Auditory Hallucination. The subjects were divided in to experimental and control group. The cognitive behavioral techniques were implemented to experimental group through twelve sessions along with medications. The control group only received medications alone during the same period. They were evaluated using PSYRATS scale for evaluation of Auditory Hallucination. RESULTS: The experimental group showed reduction in auditory hallucinations after regular cognitive behavioral techniques intervention. But after two week interval period in second post test auditory hallucination was again increased. After reemphasizing again, in third post test there was mild reduction in auditory hallucination, but not as much as in first posttest. The final post test after three month interval period showed again increase in auditory hallucination. CONCLUSION: Cognitive behavioral techniques were effective in reducing auditory hallucination and the effect was short lived. When individual based cognitive behavioral techniques were given regularly for chronic schizophrenic patients, it was found to be effective in reducing auditory hallucination

    Variation in the Biomolecular Interactions of Nickel(Ii) Hydrazone Complexes Upon Tuning the Hydrazide Fragment

    Three new bivalent nickel hydrazone complexes have been synthesised from the reactions of [NiCl2(PPh3)(2)] with H2L {L = dianion of the hydrazones derived from the condensation of o-hydroxynaphthaldehyde with furoic acid hydrazide (H2L1) (1)/thiophene-2-acid hydrazide (H2L2) (2)/isonicotinic acid hydrazide (H2L3) (3)} and formulated as [Ni(L-1)(PPh3)] (4), [Ni(L-2)(PPh3)] (5) and [Ni(L-3)(PPh3)] (6). Structural characterization of these compounds 4-6 were accomplished by using various physico-chemical techniques. Single crystal X-ray diffraction data of complexes 4 and 5 proved their distorted square planar geometry. In order to ascertain the potential of the above synthesised compounds towards biomolecular interactions, additional experiments involving interaction with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were carried out. All the ligands and corresponding nickel(II) chelates have been screened for their scavenging effect towards O-2(-), OH and NO radicals.     A case of a severe reaction following the use of bisphosphonates in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta

    We present a case of an unusual delayed multi-systemic reaction, following treatment with pamidronate. Although serious adverse reactions have been reported with pamidronate use, such a severe reaction, late in the course of pamidronate treatment, has not been described before. An 11-month-old boy with severe and complex osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) presented with hyperpyrexia and respiratory distress 10 days after his fifth cycle of pamidronate. He had significant derangement of his biochemical parameters including a positive urine myoglobin. His respiratory distress was out of proportion to his chest radiograph changes. Bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) and paediatric intensive care (PICU) admission were required. He was extensively investigated to exclude other diagnoses, but all of these investigations were negative. The reaction resembled rhabdomyolysis. He made a full recovery with only supportive management

    Starlike Functions of Complex Order with Respect to Symmetric Points Defined Using Higher Order Derivatives

    In this paper, we introduce and study a new subclass of multivalent functions with respect to symmetric points involving higher order derivatives. In order to unify and extend various well-known results, we have defined the class subordinate to a conic region impacted by Janowski functions. We focused on conic regions when it pertained to applications of our main results. Inclusion results, subordination property and coefficient inequality of the defined class are the main results of this paper. The applications of our results which are extensions of those given in earlier works are presented here as corollaries

    Role and acceptability of traditional birth attendants (DAIs) in a rural community in South India

    Dais are the traditional birth attendants, conducting deliveries at home in the majority of villages in India. A study was planned to find out the feasibility of utilising the services of the dais in case-finding in Tuberculosis (TB) and for drug delivery to diagnosed patients. As a preliminary step, a survey was done with a view to find out the role and acceptability of the dais by the community in 5% of households in randomly selected 24 of the 48 villages in Sriperumbudur taluk in Tamil Nadu, where a voluntary organisation. "PREPARE" was delivering primary health care through dais. A total of 466 individuals, either the head of the household or any other responsible person available, were interviewed to find out the role and acceptability of the dais by the community. The salient findings of this study are that 83% mentioned that the dais reside in their respective villages. hence the services of the dais were available at ail times and 82 % had stated that the services were useful to them. This background information is essential for health planners so that this task force could be effectively utilised in health programmmes, in the rural areas in India

    Robotic assembly of threaded fasteners in a non-structured environment

    Over the past two decades, a major part of the manufacturing and assembly market has been driven by the increasing demand for customised products. This has created the need for smaller batch sizes, shorter production times, lower costs, and the flexibility to produce families of products—or to assemble different parts—with the same sets of equipment. Consequently, manufacturing companies have deployed various automation systems and production strategies to improve their resource efficiency and move towards right-first-time production. Threaded fastening operations are widely used in assembly and are typically time-consuming and costly. In high-volume production, fastening operations are commonly automated using jigs, fixtures, and semi-automated tools. However, in low-volume, high-value manufacturing, fastening operations are carried out manually by skilled workers. The existing approaches are found to be less flexible and robust for performing assembly in a less structured industrial environment. This motivated the development of a flexible solution, which does not require fixtures and is adaptable to variation in part locations and lighting conditions. As a part of this research, a novel 3D threaded hole detection and a fast bolt detection algorithms are proposed and reported in this article, which offer substantial enhancement to the accuracy, repeatability, and the speed of the processes in comparison with the existing methods. Hence, the proposed method is more suitable for industrial applications. The development of an automated bolt fastening demonstrator is also described in this article to test and validate the proposed identification algorithms on complex components located in 3D space

    Even though experiments on production of cultured pearls were initiated in India in early 1930's, success was achieved only in the 70's when the free spherical pearls were produced. The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), after successfully producing the spherical pearls, has developed a technology to produce the pearl oyster seed by the hatchery method and farming the oysters at sea. Training was imparted on these important technologies to technicians both at national and international levels

    Reconstruction for Time-Domain In Vivo EPR 3D Multigradient Oximetric Imaging—A Parallel Processing Perspective

    Three-dimensional Oximetric Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Imaging using the Single Point Imaging modality generates unpaired spin density and oxygen images that can readily distinguish between normal and tumor tissues in small animals. It is also possible with fast imaging to track the changes in tissue oxygenation in response to the oxygen content in the breathing air. However, this involves dealing with gigabytes of data for each 3D oximetric imaging experiment involving digital band pass filtering and background noise subtraction, followed by 3D Fourier reconstruction. This process is rather slow in a conventional uniprocessor system. This paper presents a parallelization framework using OpenMP runtime support and parallel MATLAB to execute such computationally intensive programs. The Intel compiler is used to develop a parallel C++ code based on OpenMP. The code is executed on four Dual-Core AMD Opteron shared memory processors, to reduce the computational burden of the filtration task significantly. The results show that the parallel code for filtration has achieved a speed up factor of 46.66 as against the equivalent serial MATLAB code. In addition, a parallel MATLAB code has been developed to perform 3D Fourier reconstruction. Speedup factors of 4.57 and 4.25 have been achieved during the reconstruction process and oximetry computation, for a data set with 23 × 23 × 23 gradient steps. The execution time has been computed for both the serial and parallel implementations using different dimensions of the data and presented for comparison. The reported system has been designed to be easily accessible even from low-cost personal computers through local internet (NIHnet). The experimental results demonstrate that the parallel computing provides a source of high computational power to obtain biophysical parameters from 3D EPR oximetric imaging, almost in real-time
