Canonical-basis solution of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equation on three-dimensional Cartesian mesh
A method is presented to obtain the canonical-form solutions of the HFB
equation for atomic nuclei with zero-range interactions like the Skyrme force.
It is appropriate to describe pairing correlations in the continuum in
coordinate-space representations. An improved gradient method is used for
faster convergences under constraint of orthogonality between orbitals. To
prevent high-lying orbitals to shrink into a spatial point, a repulsive
momentum dependent force is introduced, which turns out to unveil the nature of
high-lying canonical-basis orbitals. The asymptotic properties at large radius
and the relation with quasiparticle states are discussed for the obtained
canonical basis.Comment: 23 pages including 17 figures, REVTeX4, revised version, scheduled to

Possible Verification of Tilted Anisotropic Dirac Cone in \alpha-(BEDT-TTF)_2 I_3 Using Interlayer Magnetoresistance
It is proposed that the presence of a tilted and anisotropic Dirac cone can
be verified using the interlayer magnetoresistance in the layered Dirac fermion
system, which is realized in quasi-two-dimensional organic compound
\alpha-(BEDT-TTF)_2 I_3. Theoretical formula is derived using the analytic
Landau level wave functions and assuming local tunneling of electrons. It is
shown that the resistivity takes the maximum in the direction of the tilt if
anisotropy of the Fermi velocity of the Dirac cone is small. The procedure is
described to determine the parameters of the tilt and anisotropy.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, corrected Fig.
Numerical study of the current sheet and PSBL in a magnetotail model
The current sheet and plasma sheet boundary layer (PSBL) in a magnetotail model are discussed. A test particle code is used to study the response of ensembles of particles to a two-dimensional, time-dependent model of the geomagnetic tail, and test the proposition (Coroniti, 1985a, b; Buchner and Zelenyi, 1986; Chen and Palmadesso, 1986; Martin, 1986) that the stochasticity of the particle orbits in these fields is an important part of the physical mechanism for magnetospheric substorms. The realistic results obtained for the fluid moments of the particle distribution with this simple model, and their insensitivity to initial conditions, is consistent with this hypothesis
Instabilities and propagation of neutrino magnetohydrodynamic waves in arbitrary direction
In a previous work [16], a new model was introduced, taking into account the
role of the Fermi weak force due to neutrinos coupled to magnetohydrodynamic
plasmas. The resulting neutrino-magnetohydrodynamics was investigated in a
particular geometry associated with the magnetosonic wave, where the ambient
magnetic field and the wavevector are perpendicular. The corresponding fast,
short wavelength neutrino beam instability was then obtained in the context of
supernova parameters. The present communication generalizes these results,
allowing for arbitrary direction of wave propagation, including fast and slow
magnetohydrodynamic waves and the intermediate cases of oblique angles. The
numerical estimates of the neutrino-plasma instabilities are derived in extreme
astrophysical environments where dense neutrino beams exist
Robustly Unstable Eigenmodes of the Magnetoshearing Instability in Accretion Disk
The stability of nonaxisymmetric perturbations in differentially rotating
astrophysical accretion disks is analyzed by fully incorporating the properties
of shear flows. We verify the presence of discrete unstable eigenmodes with
complex and pure imaginary eigenvalues, without any artificial disk edge
boundaries, unlike Ogilvie & Pringle(1996)'s claim. By developing the
mathematical theory of a non-self-adjoint system, we investigate the nonlocal
behavior of eigenmodes in the vicinity of Alfven singularities at
omega_D=omega_A, where omega_D is the Doppler-shifted wave frequency and
omega_A=k_// v_A is the Alfven frequency. The structure of the spectrum of
discrete eigenmodes is discussed and the magnetic field and wavenumber
dependence of the growth rate are obtained. Exponentially growing modes are
present even in a region where the local dispersion relation theory claims to
have stable eigenvalues. The velocity field created by an eigenmode is
obtained, which explains the anomalous angular momentum transport in the
nonlinear stage of this stability.Comment: 11pages, 11figures, to be published in ApJ. For associated eps files,

Gene-history correlation and population structure
Correlation of gene histories in the human genome determines the patterns of
genetic variation (haplotype structure) and is crucial to understanding genetic
factors in common diseases. We derive closed analytical expressions for the
correlation of gene histories in established demographic models for genetic
evolution and show how to extend the analysis to more realistic (but more
complicated) models of demographic structure. We identify two contributions to
the correlation of gene histories in divergent populations: linkage
disequilibrium, and differences in the demographic history of individuals in
the sample. These two factors contribute to correlations at different length
scales: the former at small, and the latter at large scales. We show that
recent mixing events in divergent populations limit the range of correlations
and compare our findings to empirical results on the correlation of gene
histories in the human genome.Comment: Revised and extended version: 26 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl
Electric Conductivity of the Zero-gap Semiconducting State in Alpha-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 Salt
The electric conductivity which reveals the zero gap semiconducting (ZGS)
state has been investigated as the function of temperature and life time
in order to understand the ZGS state in quarter-filled
-(BEDT-TTF)I salt with four sites in the unit cell. By treating
as a parameter and making use of the one-loop approximation, it is found
that the conductivity is proportional to and for
and independent of and for . Further the
conductivity being independent of in the ZGS state is examined in terms of
Born approximation for the impurity cattering.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, submitted to J. Phys. Soc. Jp
