Edible coating extends the life span of fresh fruits and vegetables. It is used to preserve food and prevent spoilage of fruits stored at room temperature. Preservative effect of gelatin coatings on the preservation of carrots was analyzed. Gelatin was prepared in four concentrations (0.5 g/ml, 1.0 g/ml, 1.5 g/ml and 2.0 g/ml). It was applied using dipping technique and allowed to dry before storage in sterile containers. Physiochemical parameters, weight loss and microbiological qualities of the coated and uncoated carrots were analyzed for a period of 7 days using standard procedures. Isolation and identification of bacteria was carried out using pour plate method and biochemical tests. Gelatin concentration at 0.5 g/ml attained nutrient retention with moisture content, total soluble solids and protein content of coated carrots ranging from 90.50 ± 0.01 – 85.40 ± 0.00 %, 12.20 ± 0.01 – 10.60 ± 0.00 Brixo and 1.50 ± 0.01 – 0.25 ± 0.01 % respectively. Weight loss of coated carrots at 0.5 g/ml concentration ranged from 0.35 ± 0.01 – 0.25 ± 0.02 g while 1.0 g/ml concentration ranged from 0.35 ± 0.00 – 0.28 ± 0.03 g. The bacterial and fungal counts of carrots coated with gelatin ranged between 0.20 ± 0.01 x 104 - 7.50 ± 0.05 x 104 Cfu/g and 0.20 ±0.01 x 104 – 18 ± 0.01 x 105 Cfu/g respectively. Eight bacterial and five fungal isolates namely Proteus sp., Staphylococcus sp., Enterobacter sp., Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas sp., Aeromonas sp, Bacillus sp, Streptococcus sp, Fusarium sp., Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus, Rhizopus stolonifera, Penicillum sp. were the most occurring bacterial and fungal species respectively. Coating with gelatin extends life span, reduce water and helps maintain the phytochemical properties of the carrot

Information use of police force occurs when information acquired by the police to satisfy an information need based on task assigned to them is actually put to use. Information is therefore useful and valuable if after receiving it, it changes things, decisions, behaviour or one’s character and solves the problem for which the information is sought. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The study population comprised 2,305 police officers in Alimosho Local Government Police Division. Stratified random sampling method was used to select 227 police officers. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation; and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used for the test of hypotheses. The study established that the police officers use information for three major situations; victims and suspects, unusual circumstances and actualities and quotes (mean=3.72) for all. The result of the quality of service showed that the police ensured that clients’ voices count in all cases (mean=2.98). There was positive significant relationship between the information use and quality service of Nigeria police (r =.117, p >.05). A large proportion of use of relevant and adequate information has helped the police to solve problems needed on security and protection of individual citizens and also improve their services. This has helped in the delivery of quality service to the citizens. The study therefore recommended that the Government should create a policy that will enable free flow of information between the citizens and the police force, and make available access to internet facilities in their various stations for relevant information needed for their effective use on tasks as this will lead to achieving quality of their services to the citizen, and increase the achievement of their goals and objectives

The objective of this paper is to conceptualize the subject area of marketing and promotion of library and information products and services in this present digital age. The paper discussed marketing as a core aspect of the activities carried out in any institution especially libraries and information centres. The paper also expounded strategies applied in the process of marketing library and information products and services and possible challenges that may be encountered in the process of marketing these products in private university libraries in Nigeria. Some of the strategies include advertising of library services on the institution’s (university) website, regular organisation of current awareness services, user orientation programmes, etc. The paper highlighted the importance of marketing as a core tool for achieving the overall objective/purpose of establishment of libraries which is to satisfy the varying information needs of its clienteles. The total enumeration sampling technique was adopted while collecting data from the two private university libraries (Covenant University Library and Redeemers’ University Library) used for the study and the study revealed that a large population (78.2%) of librarians and library personnel carry out marketing of library services very often while the major strategies used for marketing these unique services are user orientation and display of new resources (61.8%) while the least used marketing strategy was the use of liaison librarians to the various departments and colleges. The study however showed that the major challenges experienced during marketing of library services are lack of adequate funding and time constraint

The university registry is one of the central support service departments in/he university providing support for the academic purposes of the university with a range of services known as academic administration .. The academic administration includes support for the admission process for students, record management for both current and past students and other records. award / degree ceremonies and career advice. As a regulator within the university, the registry assists in the inte1pretation and application of rules and regulations. For the university registry to succeed, quality infonnation delivery is velJ' essential, more so, in this age and time when competition has become serious and powerful among private universities. The increase ip the number of private universities established i.n Nigeria today compared to the number of availalble students that can aj]ord private university education and coupled with the fact that the students now have many options opened to the Tn, lias made private universities to start looking for ways to attract, retain and foszer stronger relationships with students. Seeking sources of revenue has become a constant pressure and identifying opportunities for growth and stl'ategic positioning is now essential to survival of these universities. Therefore, for private universities to sw·vive in this competitive environment, a hetter understanding of its competition and competitive forces which affects its success is needed One important approach that has helped organizations to succeed is Competitive Intelligence (CI) which the private r , universities could use to gain advantage over its competitors. This paper proposes that the private university registry could make use of the Keisser 2002 ten steps of CI process to identify it's strengths, and weaknesses and subsequently employ strategies to improve it's information service delive1y thereby gaining competitive advantage over its competitors.

Institutional repositories (IRs) are emerging trends in scholarly communication among members of the academic community in Nigeria. Global practice shows that many IRs are managed by academic libraries and librarians. This paper examined the nexus between libraries and IRs. It observed that though the emergence of IRs holds great advantage for academic institutions, many Nigerian institutions especially Universities do not have functional IRs because of the inability of their libraries to run them. The paper further identified digital divide, inadequate finance, lack of ICT skills and awareness as well as copyright issues as challenges inhibiting the establishment and management of IRs in Nigeria. It made recommendations for dealing with the identified challenges

Effect of perceived ease of use on librarians' e-skills: Basis for library technology acceptance intention

Despite the widespread application of technology in the 21st century, making informed decisions regarding its acceptance in organisations is a function of several factors, particularly in developing countries, due to factors such as rising cost of the information technology infrastructure and low technological exposure. A model that incorporated perceived ease of use (PEOU) and e-Skills to examine librarians' intention for actual library technology acceptance was tested. The correlational research design, along with a multistage sampling procedure, was applied to select samples to reduce the sample to a manageable proportion. Professional librarians and library officers in four university libraries provided the data for the study. Results showed that e-Skill is the model's strongest determinant of technology acceptance intention among librarians. Also, PEOU will significantly moderate librarians' intention towards library technology acceptance when e-Skills are insufficient. From these outcomes, the understanding of the determinants of behavioural intention captured in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAT) is extended and refined
