Uncertainties in nuclear transition matrix elements for neutrinoless ββ\beta \beta decay II: the heavy Majorana neutrino mass mechanism

Employing four different parametrization of the pairing plus multipolar type of effective two-body interaction and three different parametrizations of Jastrow-type of short range correlations, the uncertainties in the nuclear transition matrix elements MN(0ν)M_{N}^{(0\nu)} due to the exchange of heavy Majorana neutrino for the 0+→0+0^{+}\rightarrow 0^{+} transition of neutrinoless double beta decay of 94^{94}Zr, 96^{96}Zr, 98^{98}Mo, 100^{100}Mo, 104^{104}Ru, 110^{110}Pd, 128,130^{128,130}Te and 150^{150}Nd isotopes in the PHFB model are estimated to be around 25%. Excluding the nuclear transition matrix elements calculated with Miller-Spenser parametrization of Jastrow short range correlations, the uncertainties are found to be 10%-15% smaller

Restoration of mine spoil in a dry tropical region: a review

Surface mining extensively alters the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the soil, and therefore, the revegetation of mine spoil through natural process takes a very long time and poses a major problem because nutritionally it is a recalcitrant medium for plant growth. We review important studies on the restoration of mine spoils in the tropical dry region of India. Through this communication, we suggest that the microbial biomass of soil is a critical factor in the recovery of mine spoils because it plays a major role in the re-establishment of nutrient cycling. The levels of microbial biomass C, N and P can be treated as functional indexes for soil re-development. Tree plantations have been reported to significantly accelerate the re-development process. Ground seeding of the mine spoils with suitable tree and grass species together with NPK fertilization has been reported to promote growth, and consequently leads to increase in biomass production. Species-specific variations are reported to occur in the response to fertilization. Relatively, greater variation has been reported for non-leguminous, rather than for leguminous species. Furthermore, leguminous species exhibit higher growth rates as compared to non-leguminous species. Our review also suggests that the microsite conditions on the mine spoils exhibit differences and should be given more consideration for accelerating the process of re-vegetation and fulfilling the post-mining land use objectives

Retrofitting of a 420 kV draw-lead type bushing with a draw-rod type – Part II

On observation of deterioration of tan-δ value to 1.02 %, i.e., surpassing the limiting value of 0.7 %, as defined in IEC 60137, of the 420 kV OIP bushing of BHEL’s design installed on the Y phase (RYB convention, i.e., 1V in UVW convention) of the 315 MVA, 400 / 220 / 33 kV transformer No. 1 located at the 400 kV substation Katni of the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Co. Ltd (India), a decision was taken to replace the said bushing in order to eliminate the threat of its failing. This in turn would have caused a catastrophic failure of the transformer. Such catastrophic failure would result in a colossal loss, causing system disturbance, loss of equipment and structures, as well as a loss of revenue to the utility. In the absence of a BHEL’s design 420 kV draw-lead type bushing, as was the existing one, there was no other option but to use the available 420 kV draw-rod type TELK bushing at the site. Since the manufacturers had shown their inability to depute any service personnel due to the Covid-19 pandemic in May 2020, the challenge was accepted by the engineers of the MP Power Transmission Company Ltd., who successfully completed the job with limited resources and in record time, and put the transformer back into service

    q-deformed dynamics and Josephson junction

    Get PDF
We define a generalized rate equation for an observable in quantum mechanics, that involves a parameter q and whose limit q→1q\to 1 gives the standard Heisenberg equation. The generalized rate equation is used to study dynamics of current biased Josephson junction. It is observed that this toy model incorporates diffraction like effects in the critical current. Physical interpretation for q is provided which is also shown to be q-deformation parameter.Comment: LaTeX 9 pages, submitted Mod. Phys. Lett. B, e-mail: [email protected]

An Empirical Analysis of Security Issues in Cloud Environment

Cloud Computing is a flexible, cost-effective, and proven delivery platform for providing business or consumer IT services over the Internet. However, cloud Computing presents an added level of risk because essential services are often outsourced to a third party, which makes it harder to maintain data security and privacy, support data and service availability, and demonstrate compliance. Cloud Computing leverages many technologies (SOA, virtualization, Web 2.0); it also inherits their security issues, which we discuss here, identifying the main vulnerabilities in this kind of systems and the most important threats found in the literature related to Cloud Computing and its environment as well as to identify and relate vulnerabilities and threats with possible solutions
