Evidence for long-term variability in the ultra high energy photon flux from Cygnus X-3
A time-correlation analysis of atmospheric Cerenkov pulses by a wide-angle photomultiplier system was previously shown to have present in it a nonrandom component which seemed associated with the Right Ascension (RA) range approx. 20+or-04h. A recent examination of multi-muon events recorded by a photon-decay detector shows a similar time-dependent effect, closely matching the previous results, supporting the suggestion that the effect is of cosmic origin. However, even though Cyg. X-3 lies well inside the region of peak intensity, it does not seem possible to ascribe to it the whole effect, for the implied photon flux appears too large to be reconciled to various gamma-ray measurements of Cyg. X-3. The original data were subjected to a phase-histogram analysis and it as found that only 2.5% of overall recorded data are compatible with a phase-dependent emission from Cyg. X-3. Assuming these events to be gamma rays yields a detected flux of (2.6 + or - 0.3) x 10 to the minus 12th power gamma cm -2s-1 above 5 x 10 to the 14th power eV. Comparing this value with more recent ultra high energy (UHE) photon data from the same source, it is suggested that the available data generally favor a long-term reduction in the Cyg. X-3 inferred luminosity ( 10 to the 13th power eV) by a factor of (1.8 + or - 0.3) per year
Periodic gamma-ray emissions from Geminga at or = 10(12) eV
Analysis of data from an atmospheric Cerenkov telescope indicated the periodic emission of gamma rays of energy 10 to the 12th power eV, at 60.25 second period, from 2CG 195+4. The gamma ray flux at 99% confidence level is estimated to be 9.5 x 10 to 12 photons/sq cm/s
Search for TeV -rays from H1426+428 during 2004-07 with the TACTIC telescope
The BL Lac object H1426+428 () is an established source of TeV
-rays and detections of these photons from this object also have
important implications for estimating the Extragalactic Background Light (EBL)
in addition to the understanding of the particle acceleration and -ray
production mechanisms in the AGN jets. We have observed this source for about
244h in 2004, 2006 and 2007 with the TACTIC -ray telescope located at
Mt. Abu, India. Detailed analysis of these data do not indicate the presence of
any statistically significant TeV -ray signal from the source
direction. Accordingly, we have placed an upper limit of
on the integrated

The TACTIC atmospheric Cherenkov Imaging telescope
The TACTIC -ray telescope, equipped with a light collector of area
9.5m and a medium resolution imaging camera of 349-pixels, has been
in operation at Mt.Abu, India since 2001. This paper describes the main
features of its various subsystems and its overall performance with regard to
(a) tracking accuracy of its 2-axes drive system, (b) spot size of the light
collector, (c) back-end signal processing electronics and topological trigger
generation scheme, (d) data acquisition and control system and (e) relative and
absolute gain calibration methodology. Using a trigger field of view of
1111 pixels ( 3.4), the telescope
records a cosmic ray event rate of 2.5 Hz at a typical zenith angle of
15. Monte Carlo simulation results are also presented in the paper for
comparing the expected performance of the telescope with actual observational
results. The consistent detection of a steady signal from the Crab Nebula above
1.2 TeV energy, at a sensitivity level of in 25 h,
alongwith excellent matching of its energy spectrum with that obtained by other
groups, reassures that the performance of the TACTIC telescope is quite stable
and reliable. Furthermore, encouraged by the detection of strong -ray
signals from Mrk 501 (during 1997 and 2006 observations) and Mrk 421 (during
2001 and 2005-2006 observations), we believe that there is considerable scope
for the TACTIC telescope to monitor similar TeV -ray emission activity

Very High Energy gamma-ray observations of Mrk 501 using TACTIC imaging gamma-ray telescope during 2005-06
In this paper we report on the Markarian 501 results obtained during our TeV
-ray observations from March 11 to May 12, 2005 and February 28 to May
7, 2006 for 112.5 hours with the TACTIC -ray telescope. During 2005
observations for 45.7 hours, the source was found to be in a low state and we
have placed an upper limit of 4.62 10 photons cm
s at 3 level on the integrated TeV -ray flux above 1 TeV
from the source direction. However, during the 2006 observations for 66.8h,
detailed data analysis revealed the presence of a TeV -ray signal from
the source with a statistical significance of 7.5 above
1 TeV. The time averaged differential energy spectrum of the
source in the energy range 1-11 TeV is found to match well with the power law
