Footprints of the missionary : the road of General Conference Mennonites in Oklahoma.

"General Conference Mennonites in the United States are prevalent in the states of Pennsylvania on the east coast, and in Kansas on the central plains. The state of Oklahoma too has its share of the denomination as well. These congregations, though not as numerous as in other states, made their mark in the Sooner State. The Mennonite voice in Oklahoma reflected their efforts to provide for those in need as well as to further the faith through missions work. From their arrival to America, to the missions started by Samuel S. Haury and Heinrich Richert Voth, these Mennonites remained steadfast to their faith and continue to reside a strong presence in the state. This thesis displays how important and contributory the General Conference Mennonites are in the state of Oklahoma. By equating the theological adherence to mission work and how it manifested overtime, this history evaluates the extent to which the denomination engaged to help the needy, and in so doing, these Mennonites cemented their place in the state. Their arrival to America and Oklahoma, their work with Indian tribes, church planting, relief efforts, and continuation are expressed in the work."--Abstract.

Advanced Strain-Isolation-Pad Material with Bonded Fibrous Construction

    Get PDF
The feasibility of utilizing air lay and liquid lay felt deposition techniques to fabricate strain isolation pad (SIP) materials for the Space Shuttle Orbiter was demonstrated. These materials were developed as candidate replacements for the present needled felt SIP used between the ceramic tiles and the aluminum skin on the undersurface of the Orbiter. The SIP materials that were developed consisted of high temperature aramid fibers deposited by controlled fluid (air or liquid) carriers to form low density unbonded felts. The deposited felts were then bonded at the fiber intersections with a small amount of high temperature polyimide resin. This type of bonded felt construction can potentially eliminate two of the problems associated with the present SIP, viz., transmittal of localized stresses into the tiles and load history dependent mechanical response. However, further work is needed to achieve adequate through thickness tensile strength in the bonded felts

A MICROCOMPUTER MODEL FOR IRRIGATION SYSTEM EVALUATION

ICEASE (Irrigation Cost Estimator and System Evaluator) is a microcomputer model designed and developed to meet the need for conducting economic evaluation of adjustments to irrigation systems and management techniques to improve the use of irrigated water. ICEASE can calculate the annual operating costs for irrigation systems and has five options that can be used to economically evaluate improvements in the pumping plant or the way the irrigation system is used for crop production.Crop Production/Industries,

Subcentimeter depth resolution using a single-photon counting time-of-flight laser ranging system at 1550 nm wavelength

We demonstrate subcentimeter depth profiling at a stand off distance of 330m using a time-of-flight approach based on time-correlated single-photon counting. For the first time to our knowledge, the photon-counting time-of-flight technique was demonstrated at a wavelength of 1550nm using a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector. The performance achieved suggests that a system using superconducting detectors has the potential for low-light-level and eye-safe operation. The system’s instrumental response was 70ps full width at half-maximum, which meant that 1cm surface-to-surface resolution could be achieved by locating the centroids of each return signal. A depth resolution of 4mm was achieved by employing an optimized signal-processing algorithm based on a reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo method

Greenhouse gas emissions mitigation in more sustainable agroecosystems in Cerrado.

In this work, we show that the transition to more sustainable rural production can mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by agroecosystems without compromising revenues, particularly in the Cerrado region.(Embrapa Gado de Corte. -The present study examined the effect of simulated transport on marron, Cherax cainii, (Austin, 2002) after a 10 week feeding trial using basal diet or customised probiotic, Bacillus mycoides supplemented diet by measuring intestinal bacterial population, total haemocyte count (THC), bacteraemia, morbidity, dehydration and mortality. Packing steps followed the established standard packing method for live transportation of marron. Each treatment group consisted of six polystyrene boxes (65 ?? 30 ?? 40 cm3 ), and each box contained 30 marron from each feeding group. The sealed boxes were placed on a trolley at room temperature to give the effect of transportation. Boxes were opened at 24th and 48th hour post simulated transport and marron from each treatment group were returned to the culture tank. After temperature acclimation, the marron were observed for mortality and samples were collected to assess marron health and immunity. The results demonstrated that no mortality was observed at 24 h of transport both in basal diet and probiotic diet fed marron, however at 48h of transport the survival of probiotic fed marron was significantly higher (100 ?? 0.0%) compared to survival (93.3 ?? 2.8%) of basal diet fed marron. The higher survival rate of probiotic fed marron was also sustained by superior health and immune status indicated by higher intestinal bacterial population, higher total haemocyte count and lower haemolymph bacteria (bacteraemia) level. In brief, supplementation with host origin customized probiotic B. mycoides significantly improved marron tolerance to a live transport stress test, which resulted in no mortality up to 48h of transport
