Reduced dimensionality in layered quantum dimer magnets: Frustration vs. inhomogeneous condensates
Motivated by recent experiments on BaCuSi2O6, we investigate magnetic
excitations and quantum phase transitions of layered dimer magnets with
inter-layer frustration. We consider two scenarios, (A) a lattice with one
dimer per unit cell and perfect inter-layer frustration, and (B) an enlarged
unit cell with inequivalent layers, with and without perfect frustration. In
all situations, the critical behavior at asymptotically low temperatures is
three-dimensional, but the corresponding crossover scale may be tiny. Magnetic
ordering in case (B) can be discussed in terms of two condensates; remarkably,
perfect frustration renders the proximity effect ineffective. Then, the
ordering transition will be generically split, with clear signatures in
measurable properties. Using a generalized bond-operator method, we calculate
the low-temperature magnetic properties in the paramagnetic and
antiferromagnetic phases. Based on the available experimental data on
BaCuSi2O6, we propose that scenario (B) with inequivalent layers and imperfect
frustration is realized in this material, likely with an additional modulation

Superconducting d-wave stripes in cuprates: Valence bond order coexisting with nodal quasiparticles
We point out that unidirectional bond-centered charge-density-wave states in
cuprates involve electronic order in both s- and d-wave channels, with
non-local Coulomb repulsion suppressing the s-wave component. The resulting
bond-charge-density wave, coexisting with superconductivity, is compatible with
recent photoemission and tunneling data and as well as neutron-scattering
measurements, once long-range order is destroyed by slow fluctuations or glassy
disorder. In particular, the real-space structure of d-wave stripes is
consistent with the scanning-tunneling-microscopy measurements on both
underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x and Ca2-xNaxCuO2Cl2 of Kohsaka et al. [Science 315,

A-posteriori provenance-enabled linking of publications and datasets via crowdsourcing
This paper aims to share with the digital library community different opportunities to leverage crowdsourcing for a-posteriori capturing of dataset citation graphs. We describe a practical approach, which exploits one possible crowdsourcing technique to collect these graphs from domain experts and proposes their publication as Linked Data using the W3C PROV standard. Based on our findings from a study we ran during the USEWOD 2014 workshop, we propose a semi-automatic approach that generates metadata by leveraging information extraction as an additional step to crowdsourcing, to generate high-quality data citation graphs. A cross-modal component of alexithymia and its relationship with performance in a social cognition task battery
Background The personality trait alexithymia describes an altered emotional awareness that is associated with a range of social impairments and constitutes a transdiagnostic risk factor for various psychopathologies. Despite the characteristic interoceptive deficits in alexithymia, it is predominantly assessed via self-reports. This can result in unreliable measurements and arguably contributes to the prevailing uncertainty regarding its components, including constricted imaginal processes and emotional reactivity. Methods The current study employed an interview and two validated questionnaires to derive a shared component of multi-modally assessed alexithymia in a German non-clinical sample (n = 78) via prinicipal component analysis. This component was used as a predictor for performance in four behavioural social cognition tasks. The relative importance of this predictor against related variables was assessed via dominance analysis. Results The identified component reflected cognitive alexithymia. Higher cognitive alexithymia scores were associated with less affective distress in an ostracizing task. Dominance analysis revealed the dominance of competing autism traits relative to cognitive alexithymia and competing predictors empathy, depression, and anxiety, in predicting affective distress. Limitations Emotional reactivity was only assessed via self-report and no implicit measures of alexithymia were employed. Due to the low reliability of the self-report measure, no measure of emotional reactivity could be included in the principal component analysis. Conclusions Our results provide compelling evidence that cognitive interoceptive deficits are at the core of alexithymia across assessment modalities. Behavioural data suggest that these deficits result in diminished emotional sensitivity to high-pressure social situations, which may cause a lack of behavioural adaptation

Finite-Temperature Transition in the Spin-Dimer Antiferromagnet BaCuSi2O6
We consider a classical XY-like Hamiltonian on a body-centered tetragonal
lattice, focusing on the role of interlayer frustration. A three-dimensional
(3D) ordered phase is realized via thermal fluctuations, breaking the
mirror-image reflection symmetry in addition to the XY symmetry. A heuristic
field-theoretical model of the transition has a decoupled fixed point in the 3D
XY universality, and our Monte Carlo simulation suggests that there is such a
temperature region where long-wavelength fluctuations can be described by this
fixed point. However, it is shown using scaling arguments that the decoupled
fixed point is unstable against a fluctuation-induced biquadratic interaction,
indicating that a crossover to nontrivial critical phenomena with different
exponents appears as one approaches the critical point beyond the transient
temperature region. This new scenario clearly contradicts the previous notion
of the 3D XY universality.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figure
Polaronic behavior of undoped high-Tc cuprates
We present angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) data on undoped
La2CuO4, indicating polaronic coupling between bosons and charge carriers.
Using a shell model, we calculate the electron-phonon coupling and find that it
is strong enough to give polarons. We develop an efficient method for
calculating ARPES spectra in undoped systems. Using the calculated couplings,
we find the width of the phonon side band in good agreement with experiment. We

Divalent metallocenes of the lanthanides – a guideline to properties and reactivity
Since the discovery in the early 1980s, the soluble divalent metallocenes of lanthanides have become a steadily growing field in organometallic chemistry. The predominant part of the investigation has been performed with samarium, europium, and ytterbium, whereas only a few reports dealing with other rare earth elements were disclosed. Reactions of these metallocenes can be divided into two major categories: (1) formation of Lewis acid–base complexes, in which the oxidation state remains +II; and (2) single electron transfer (SET) reductions with the ultimate formation of Ln(III) complexes. Due to the increasing reducing character from Eu(II) over Yb(II) to Sm(II), the plethora of literature concerning redox reactions revolves around the metallocenes of Sm and Yb. In addition, a few reactivity studies on Nd(II), Dy(II) and mainly Tm(II) metallocenes were published. These compounds are even stronger reducing agents but significantly more difficult to handle. In most cases, the metals are ligated by the versatile pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ligand: (CMe). Other cyclopentadienyl ligands are fully covered but only discussed in detail, if the ligand causes differences in synthesis or reactivity. Thus, the focus lays on three compounds: [(CMe)Sm], [(CMe)Eu] and [(CMe)Yb] and their solvates. We discuss the synthesis and physical properties of divalent lanthanide metallocenes first, followed by an overview of the reactivity rendering the full potential of these versatile reactants
Evidence of fNIRS-based prefrontal cortex hypoactivity in obesity and binge-eating disorder
Obesity (OB) and associated binge-eating disorder (BED) show increased impulsivity and emotional dysregulation. Albeit well-established in neuropsychiatric research, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has rarely been used to study OB and BED. Here, we investigated fNIRS-based food-specific brain signalling, its association with impulsivity and emotional dysregulation, and the temporal variability in individuals with OB with and without BED compared to an age- and sex-stratified normal weight (NW) group. Prefrontal cortex (PFC) responses were recorded in individuals with OB (n = 15), OB + BED (n = 13), and NW (n = 12) in a passive viewing and a response inhibition task. Impulsivity and emotional dysregulation were self-reported; anthropometrics were objectively measured. The OB and NW groups were measured twice 7 days apart. Relative to the NW group, the OB and OB + BED groups showed PFC hyporesponsivity across tasks, whereas there were few significant differences between the OB and OB + BED groups. Greater levels of impulsivity were significantly associated with stronger PFC responses, while more emotional dysregulation was significantly associated with lower PFC responses. Temporal differences were found in the left orbitofrontal cortex responses, yet in opposite directions in the OB and NW groups. This study demonstrated diminished fNIRS-based PFC responses across OB phenotypes relative to a NW group. The association between impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and PFC hypoactivity supports the assumption that BED constitutes a specific OB phenotype
