The main aim of this paper is to present a longitudinal analysis of the changes in the AmericaEconomia MBA Rankings for the period 2005-2014. The AmericaEconomia ranking was the first international ranking specifically devoted to Latin American business schools, and with data gathered from this ranking we build a panel to study its stability and the main determinants of a school’s position in such ranking during the period under study. The final aim of this study is to examine the reliability of the AmericaEconomia ranking, that is whether changes in the ranking positions are not just due to white noise, and compare its stability with those of the US and other global rankings. We also want to empirically determine which are the key quality variables this ranking is promoting for Latin America Business Schools and the evolution of these business schools during the period under study. Unlike previous literature that usually considers dynamic Tobit models for ranking analysis, we put forward an alternative methodology based on a system GMM estimator with first-differenced instruments. We argue that dynamic Tobit models are appropriate only if you have truncated data about the ranking variable but full data on Business Schools variables. This is not always the case, as in our work in which we only have a subsample of Latin American Business Schools, those included in the AmericaEconomia ranking

    Whistleblowing Behavior in Organizations

We develop a game theoretical model of whistleblowing behavior in organizations, focusing specifically on the role of incentives aimed at encouraging this type of behavior. We also analyze the potential impacts of whistleblowing behavior on the persistence of corruption. First, we present a static game consisting of two employees with three available strategies: honest, corrupt and whistleblowing behavior. Later, we examine the pure and mixed Nash equilibrium strategies of the game. Second, we use the concept of replicator dynamics to formally explore the local asymptotic stability of whistleblowing behavior within organizations. Our main results show that whistleblowing as a mechanism to control wrongdoing is only relevant under the existence of external monitoring (if the probability of detecting wrongdoing with an external mechanism is close to zero, then in the long term, all employees will begin to behave corruptly). We also show that whistleblowers reduce the minimum wages required to avoid corruption within an organization, making it less costly for an organization to combat corruption. Finally, we claim that whistleblowing strategies seem to be less attractive for activities with very high bribery in comparison to the rewards for whistleblowers, for example, this could be the case of manufacturing or retail, but not for nancial services in general

The main aim of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the evolution and different models of development of Latin American business schools. For this we analyze data from the AmericaEconomia MBA Rankings for the period 2015 to 2019 and build a panel with quantitative data and performance indicators. Using these data, we analyze the recent evolution of 26 business schools located in nine Latin American countries, which gives us a perspective of what is the current state of affairs in different countries of Latin America in terms of business education. We also perform a formal statistical procedure, applying a cluster analysis in order to group business schools in terms of a set of indicators. Using the results of our cluster analysis we propose a taxonomy for Latin American Business Schools. Finally, we put forward a business school strategic impact model, which includes three dimensions, namely: (i) BS Resources and Scope; (ii) BS Outputs and (iii) BS Value Perceptions. This strategic impact model is used as a benchmark to analyze the business school’s types identified in our taxonomy and to propose policy recommendations for business schools, rankings, and accreditations

Field-dependent roughness of moving domain walls in a Pt/Co/Pt magnetic thin film

The creep motion of domain walls driven by external fields in magnetic thin films is described by universal features related to the underlying depinning transition. One key parameter in this description is the roughness exponent characterizing the growth of fluctuations of the domain wall position with its longitudinal length scale. The roughness amplitude, which gives information about the scale of fluctuations, however, has received less attention. Albeit their relevance, experimental reports of the roughness parameters, both exponent and amplitude, are scarce. We report here experimental values of the roughness parameters for different magnetic field intensities in the creep regime at room temperature for a Pt/Co/Pt thin film. The mean value of the roughness exponent is ζ=0.74\zeta = 0.74, and we show that it can be rationalized as an effective value in terms of the known universal values corresponding to the depinning and thermal cases. In addition, it is shown that the roughness amplitude presents a significant increase with decreasing field. These results contribute to the description of domain wall motion in disordered thin magnetic systems.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure

Synergistic effect of acetazolamide-(2-hydroxy)propyl β-cyclodextrin in timolol liposomes for decreasing and prolonging intraocular pressure levels

The purpose of this study was to design, for the first time, a co-loaded liposomal formulation (CLL) for treatment of glaucoma including timolol maleate (TM) in the lipid bilayer and acetazolamide (Acz)-(2-hydroxy)propyl β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) complexes (AczHP) solubilized in the aqueous core of liposomes. Formulations with TM (TM-L) and AczHP (AczHP-L), separately, were also prepared and characterized. A preliminary study comprising the Acz/HPβCD complexes and their interaction with cholesterol (a component of the lipid bilayer) was realized. Then, a screening study on formulation factors affecting the quality of the product was carried out following the design of the experiment methodology. In addition, in vitro release and permeation studies and in vivo lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) studies were performed. The results of the inclusion com-plexation behavior, characterization, and binding ability of Acz with HPβCD showed that HPβCD could enhance the water solubility of Acz despite the weak binding ability of the complex. Ch disturbed the stability and solubility parameters of Acz due to the fact of its competence by CD; thus, Chems (steroid derivative) was selected for further liposome formulation studies. The optimization of the lipid bilayer composition (DDAB, 0.0173 mmol and no double loading) and the extrusion as methods to reduce vesicle size were crucial for improving the physico-chemical properties and encapsulation efficiency of both drugs. In vitro release and permeation studies demonstrated that the CLL formulation showed improvement in in vitro drug release and permeation compared to the liposomal formulations with a single drug (TM-L and AczHP-L) and the standard solutions (TM-S and AczHP-S). CLL showed high efficacy in reducing and prolonging IOP, suggesting that the synergistic effect of TM and Acz on aqueous humor retention and the presence of this cyclodextrin and liposomes as permeation enhancers are responsible for the success of this strategy of co-loading for glaucoma therapy.Junta de Andalucía 2017/CTS214Universidad de Sevilla PPI546/202
