Mobilizar: Capturing User Behavior with Mobile Digital Diaries
In this paper we present Mobilizar, a web-based mobile tool that facilitates the implementation and data collection of self-reported user behavior. Mobilizar was designed with both the researcher and the participant in mind. It provides investigators with a way to setup a new diary study in a matter of minutes and to electronically collect diary data from participants by using internet-enabled mobile devices. These devices promise to alleviate the burden of carrying a paper-and-pencil diary by instead using the participant’s own device. It also gives participants the flexibility to report their behavior in different ways such as making text, voice, or picture entries that fit their current situational constraints. In this paper, we describe the user interface design of Mobilizar and how it may be used to conduct diary studies with mobile devices

Trilepton Signal for Supersymmetry at the Fermilab Tevatron Revisited
Within a wide class of models, the LEP2 lower limit of 95 GeV on the chargino
mass implies gluinos are heavier than 300 GeV. In this case electroweak
\tw_1\twb_1 and \tw_1\tz_2 production are the dominant SUSY processes at
the Tevatron, and the extensively examined isolated trilepton signal from
\tw_1\tz_2 production assumes an even greater importance. We update our
previous calculations of the SUSY reach of luminosity upgrades of the Fermilab
Tevatron in this channel incorporating ({\it i}) decay matrix elements in the
computation of the momenta of leptons from chargino and neutralino decays,
({\it ii}) the trilepton background from and production
which, though neglected in previous analyses, turns out to be the dominant
background, and finally, ({\it iii}) modified sets of cuts designed to reduce
these new backgrounds and increase the range of model parameters for which the
signal is observable. We show our improved projections for the reach for SUSY
of both the Fermilab Main Injector and the proposed TeV33 upgrade. We also
present opposite sign same flavor dilepton invariant mass distributions as well
as the distributions of leptons in SUSY trilepton events, and comment
upon how the inclusion of decay matrix elements impacts upon the Tevatron
reach, as well as upon the extraction of neutralino masses.Comment: final version to coincide with published manuscrip

Health and heating in the city of Temuco (Chile). Monetary savings of replacing biomass with PV system in the residential sector
The paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of replacing residential use of wood burning stoves for heating with photovoltaic systems for the generation of electricity using storage batteries (PV + storage systems). The research focuses on the city of Temuco (Southern Chile) as a case study, since this city has a high use of firewood for heating (80% of households) and also because this city has been declared by authorities as an area saturated with suspended particles. The total cost corresponds to the acquisition of systems. The reduction of monetary value of the impact of polluting emissions, resulting from the combustion of firewood, on health and traffic accidents is calculated. The interactive tool GDB Compare has been used to calculate the impact of pollution on health both in terms of attributable deaths and disability-adjusted life years. The monetary value of the impact on health has been calculated using two alternative approaches: the value of statistical life and the human capital approach. To identify firewood use requirements, heating degree–days has been used for temperatures ≤15 °C and ≤18 °C. The emissions avoided calculations have been refined, including emissions associated with the manufacture and transport of systems through the life cycle analysis. For all scenarios, the main results show that the savings outweigh the costs

Effectiveness of hypnoanalgesia for dermatological surgery in children: Randomised clinical trial
Background and Objective. Diagnostic or therapeutic procedures may generate pain, fear or anxiety. The aim of this paper is to assess whether hypnosedation in children undergoing dermatological surgery is effective in reducing the doses of sedation and analgesia during the periprocedure.
Patients and methods. Clinical trial in which paediatric patients scheduled for removal of benign skin lesions in a hospital were randomised to receive hypnosis (intervention group) or attention-distracting techniques (control group). The outcome measures used were doses of sedation (propofol) during surgery, and the need for analgesia (paracetamol and others) and pain assessment by visual analogue scale (VAS), post-surgery and at 24 hours.
Results. Thirty patients between 5 and 16 years of age were selected consecutively, two of them being excluded because they did not meet the criteria; 15 patients were assigned to the hypnosis group and 13 to the control. Patients treated with hypnosis as an adjuvant to conscious sedation showed a lower need for propofol (median 1.8 mg/Kg; P25-75 1.6 - 2.0) than those treated with distraction (2.9; 2.5 - 3.0; p=0.001). Eighty percent of the children in the hypnosis group needed post-surgical paracetamol versus 100% in the control (p=0.226); after 24 h after discharge the difference in need of ibuprofen was 6.7% versus 38.5% (p=0.041) and of analgesics in general 46.7% versus 84.6% (p=0.082). The VAS of pain during the procedure in the hypnosis group was VAS 0 (0-0) vs 0 (0-5.5) (p=0.142).
Conclusions. Hypnosis as an adjuvant to sedation in children undergoing major outpatient surgery
