    Residential electricity pricing in China

    The paper aims to evaluate the implications of the new residential pricing system in China by examining price and income elasticity of demand by different household types. We use pre-reform annual panel data for 29 provinces over a fourteen year period, from 1998 to 2011, applying feasible generalize least squares models. The price and income elasticities for household sector are -0.412, and 1.476 at nation level, -0.300 and 1.550 in urban areas and -0.522 and 1.093 in rural areas respectively. With regional effects, the price and income elasticities are -0.146 and 1.286 for urban households in coastal provinces and -0.772 and 1.259 for urban households in inland provinces respectively. The empirical results reveal that there is important heterogeneity in the responsiveness to electricity price changes according to household income level and location

    Association between ambient air pollutants and short-term mortality risks during 2015–2019 in Guangzhou, China

    With the development of technology and industry, the problem of global air pollution has become difficult to ignore. We investigated the association between air pollutant concentrations and daily all-cause mortality and stratified the analysis by sex, age, and season. Data for six air pollutants [fine particulate matter (PM2.5), inhalable particles (PM10), nitric dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), ozone (O3), and carbon monoxide (CO)] and daily mortality rates were collected from 2015 to 2019 in Guangzhou, China. A time-series study using a quasi-Poisson generalized additive model was used to examine the relationships between environmental pollutant concentrations and mortality. Mortality data for 296,939 individuals were included in the analysis. The results showed that an increase of 10 μg/m3 in the concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, SO2, O3, NO2, and CO corresponded to 0.84% [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.47, 1.21%], 0.70% (0.44, 0.96%), 3.59% (1.77, 5.43%), 0.21% (0.05, 0.36%), 1.06% (0.70, 1.41%), and 0.05% (0.02, 0.09%), respectively. The effects of the six air pollutants were more significant for male individuals than female individuals, the cool season than the warm season, and people 75 years or older than those younger than 75 years. PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and NO2 were all associated with neoplasms and circulatory and respiratory diseases. The two-pollutant models found that PM2.5, PM10, and NO2 may independently affect the risk of mortality.     Abstract Background Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy has shown remarkable responses in hematological malignancies with several approved products, but not in solid tumors. Patients suffer from limited response and tumor relapse due to low efficacy of CAR-T cells in the complicated and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. This clinical challenge has called for better CAR designs and combined strategies to improve CAR-T cell therapy against tumor changes. Methods In this study, IL-15/IL-15Rα was inserted into the extracellular region of CAR targeting mesothelin. In-vitro cytotoxicity and cytokine production were detected by bioluminescence-based killing and ELISA respectively. In-vivo xenograft mice model was used to evaluate the anti-tumor effect of CAR-T cells. RNA-sequencing and online database analysis were used to identify new targets in residual gastric cancer cells after cytotoxicity assay. CAR-T cell functions were detected in vitro and in vivo after GLI Pathogenesis Related 1 (GLIPR1) knockdown in gastric cancer cells. Cell proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells were detected by CCK-8 and scratch assay respectively after GLIPR1 were overexpressed or down-regulated. Results CAR-T cells constructed with IL-15/IL-15Rα (CAR-ss-T) showed significantly improved CAR-T cell expansion, cytokine production and cytotoxicity, and resulted in superior tumor control compared to conventional CAR-T cells in gastric cancer. GLIPR1 was up-regulated after CAR-T treatment and survival was decreased in gastric cancer patients with high GLIPR1 expression. Overexpression of GLIPR1 inhibited cytotoxicity of conventional CAR-T but not CAR-ss-T cells. CAR-T treatment combined with GLIPR1 knockdown increased anti-tumor efficacy in vitro and in vivo.
