Bicycling is an alternative of urban transport mode, which is significantly influenced by land use. This paper makes an effort to quantify the magnitude and direction of the impact. We first develop a theoretical framework to establish links between land use and bicycle usage. Then, trip data is crawled from Mobike, one of the largest newly emerging, free-floating bike sharing operators in Shenzhen (China), for a total of more than 7.8 million records over 191 consecutive days. And bicycling frequency, travel duration, and riding distance are obtained to be proxies of bicycle usage. Land-use characteristics regarding bicycling are comprehensively indicated by a set of standardized variables including three dimensions, land-use type, land-use mix, land-use connections, and 12 concrete indices. Panel spatial model is applied to quantify the associations at the district level with socioeconomics controlled. Results show that the percentage of green land has a remarkable impact on bicycle usage outcomes and land-use mix is positively associated with bicycling frequency. Density of intersections contributes to longer trip duration. Bicycle lane is a positive facilitator on workdays, while the number of stations is positively related to bicycle usage, especially frequency and distance. These findings provide insight into land use-transport interaction and could be of value to policymakers, planers and practitioners for transport planning while incorporating bicycling-friendly principles

This study was carried out to test the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale–Version 11 (BIS-11), and its short versions (the eight-item and 15-item BIS) in a sample of 424 Chinese male prisoners (M = 31.26, SD = 7.43, age = 18-52 years). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFAs) indicated that the single-factor model of BIS with eight items (BIS-8) and the three-factor model of BIS with 15 items (BIS-15) fit the data well. In addition, the item response theory (IRT) approach confirmed the construct and items for the BIS-8 with good discrimination, threshold parameters, and test information curve. Correlations with psychopathic traits, antisocial personality disorder, and aggression suggested that the performance of the eight-item BIS was comparable with that of the original 30-item BIS in measuring general impulsivity. This research was supported by grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant 31400904) and Guangzhou University’s 2017 training program for top-notch young people (Grant BJ201715)

After decades of rapid development, there exists insufficient and contradictory land use in the world, and social, economic and ecological sustainable development is facing severe challenges. Balanced land use functions (LUFs) can promote sustainable land use and reduces land pressures from limited land resources. In this study, we propose a new conceptual index system using the entropy weight method, regional center of gravity theory, coupling coordination degree model and obstacle factor identification model for LUFs assessment and spatial-temporal analysis. This framework was applied to 17 cities in central China’s Hubei Province using 39 indicators in terms of production–living–ecology analysis during 1996–2016. The result shows that (1) LUFs showed an overall upward trend during the study period, while the way of promotion varied with different dimensions. Production function (PF) experienced a continuous enhancement during the study period. Living function (LF) was similar in this aspect, but showed a faster rising tendency. EF continued to increase during 1996–2011, but declined during 2011–2016. LUFs were higher in the east than in the west, and slightly higher in the south than in the north. The spatial coordination was enhanced during the study period. (2) The overall level of coupling coordination degree continued to increase during 1996–2016, while regional difference declined obviously, indicating a good developing trend. However, the absolute level was still not satisfactory. (3) The obstacle degree of PF was always dominant, and LF showed a downward trend, while EF showed an increasing trend. Benefit index (A2), Comfort index (B2) and Green index (C1) constituted the primary obstacle factor for each dimension. Added-value of high and new technology industry (A2-3) and land use intensity (A3-2) were key factors restricting PF. Number of medical practitioner (B1-4) and internet penetration rate (B2-3) were key factors restricting LF. Air quality rate (C3-1) and wetland coverage rate (C1-4) were key factors restricting EF. This study can help to give a more detailed understanding of sustainable land use for the particularity of China from a land function perspective and provide lessons and suggestions for other developing countries in the world

Fetal ocular development in the second trimester of pregnancy documented by 7.0 T postmortem Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Few investigators have analyzed fetal ocular growth with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of high magnetic strength. Our purpose is to obtain normative biometrics for fetal ocular development in the second trimester of pregnancy. Sixty specimens with a gestational age (GA) of 12-23 weeks were scanned using a 7.0 T MRI scanner. The linear interocular and binocular distances (IOD and BOD, respectively), globe diameter (GD) and lens diameter (LD) were measured on the transverse section of the largest diameter of the eyeballs. The three dimensional (3D) visualization model of the eyeball was reconstructed with Amira software. Then, the globe and lens volumes (GV and LV, respectively) were obtained. All the measurements were plotted as a function of GA. The fetal ocular structures in the second trimester of pregnancy could be clearly delineated on 7.0 T postmortem MRI images. All the linear measurements logarithmically increased with GA, while, the volumetric measurements linearly increased with GA. Postmortem MRI of high magnetic strength can clearly document fetal ocular growth in the second trimester of pregnancy. These quantitative data may be a valuable reference for the assessment of normal fetal eyeball development in clinical settings and may be considered a supplement to anatomical investigations

PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation analyses in cervical exfoliated cells are highly efficient for detecting cervical (pre)cancer in hrHPV-positive women

Studies have investigated PAX1 and SEPT methylation were closely associated with cervical cancer. For this study, we verified the expressions of PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation in 236 hrHPV women cervical exfoliated cells by using quantitative methylation-specific PCR and we further explored their diagnostic value in cervical (pre)cancer detection. Our results identified that the methylation rates and levels of PAX1 and SEPT9 increased with cervical lesion severity. For a diagnosis of cervical (pre)cancer, the area under the curve (AUC) of PAX1 methylation was 0.77 (95% CI 0.71–0.83) and the AUC of SEPT9 methylation was 0.86 (95% CI 0.81∼0.90). Analyses of the PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation statuses alone or combined with commonly used tests can efficiently identify cervical (pre)cancer. In particular, SEPT9 methylation might serve as an effective and powerful biomarker for the diagnosis of cervical (pre)cancer and as an alternative triage test in HPV-based cervical (pre)cancer screening programs.Impact Statement What is already known on this subject? This subject showed that PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation were closely associated with cervical cancer. The methylation rates and levels of PAX1 and SEPT9 increased with cervical lesion severity and reached a peak in cervical cancer exfoliated cells. We further assessed the diagnostic performances of PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation in cervical cancer screening. In detecting cervical (pre)cancer, the sensitivity values of PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation were up to 61.18% and 82.35%, respectively, and the specificity values of PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation were up to 95.36% and 86.75%, respectively. Moreover, the ROC curve analysis showed AUC values of 0.77 for PAX1 methylation and 0.86 for SEPT9 methylation tests, which were significantly superior to other commonly used tests. These findings suggest that PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation detection may have great clinical potential in cervical cancer screening. What the results of this study add? The rates and levels of PAX1 and SEPT9 methylation increased with the severity of the cervical lesions. For a diagnosis of cervical (pre)cancer, the area under the curve (AUC) of PAX1 methylation was 0.77 (95% CI 0.71–0.83), and the sensitivity and specificity values were 61.18% and 95.36%, respectively. The AUC value of the SEPT9 methylation was 0.86 (95% CI 0.81 ∼ 0.90), and the sensitivity and specificity values were 82.35% and 86.75%, respectively. Compared with the various tests we conducted, the PAX1 methylation showed the highest specificity (95.36%), and the SEPT9 methylation demonstrated the highest accuracy(86.00%). What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? The methylation levels of PAX1 and SEPT9 had a certain predictive effect on the severity of cervical lesions in hrHPV-positive women. In addition, SEPT9 methylation analysis performs better than PAX1 methylation analysis and commonly used tests in cervical exfoliated cells for detecting cervical (pre)cancer in hrHPV-positive women. SEPT9 methylation analysis merits consideration as an effective and objective, alternative triage test in HPV-based cervical (pre)cancer screening programs

The factor structure and construct validity of the inventory of callous-unemotional traits in Chinese undergraduate students

<div><p>The current study assesses the factor structure and construct validity of the self-reported Inventory of Callous–Unemotional Traits (ICU) in 637 Chinese community adults (mean age = 25.98, <i>SD</i> = 5.79). A series of theoretical models proposed in previous studies were tested through confirmatory factor analyses. Results indicated that a shortened form that consists of 11 items (ICU-11) to assess callousness and uncaring factors has excellent overall fit. Additionally, correlations with a wide range of external variables demonstrated that this shortened form has similar construct validity compared to the original ICU. In conclusion, our findings suggest that the ICU-11 may be a promising self-report tool that could be a good substitute for the original form to assess callous-uncaring traits in adults.</p></div
