Knowledge-based Query Expansion in Real-Time Microblog Search

Since the length of microblog texts, such as tweets, is strictly limited to 140 characters, traditional Information Retrieval techniques suffer from the vocabulary mismatch problem severely and cannot yield good performance in the context of microblogosphere. To address this critical challenge, in this paper, we propose a new language modeling approach for microblog retrieval by inferring various types of context information. In particular, we expand the query using knowledge terms derived from Freebase so that the expanded one can better reflect users' search intent. Besides, in order to further satisfy users' real-time information need, we incorporate temporal evidences into the expansion method, which can boost recent tweets in the retrieval results with respect to a given topic. Experimental results on two official TREC Twitter corpora demonstrate the significant superiority of our approach over baseline methods.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure

Use of Preplaced Casting Method in Lightweight Aggregate Concrete

This study addresses the use of preplaced casting method in lightweight aggregate concrete (LC) to provide a new perspective to solve the aggregate segregation. In casting preplaced lightweight aggregate concrete (PLC), the lightweight aggregates are cast into formworks and then fresh grout is injected to fill voids. PLC and conventional lightweight aggregate concrete (CLC) with three different mixtures are compared to observe the degree of segregation. The properties of PLC and CLC are characterized by means of cubic and axial compression, splitting tension and flexural tests, static modulus of elasticity, and drying shrinkage measurements. Results show that the mechanical properties of PLC are improved with respect to that of CLC with the same mixture. The increase of shrinkage is approximately 13% for the CLC and 6% for PLC when w/c ratio ranges from 0.4 to 0.5 due to effect on interlocking. PLC shows an increased tendency in elastic modulus by approximately 2.5% of 0.5 w/c ratio, 2.7% of 0.45 w/c ratio, and 3.3% of 0.4 w/c ratio at the age of 28 days compared with CLC. In conclusion, PLC has significant reduction in the weight on the premise that it shows excellent mechanical properties

A Novel Admission Control Model in Cloud Computing

With the rapid development of Cloud computing technologies and wide adopt of Cloud services and applications, QoS provisioning in Clouds becomes an important research topic. In this paper, we propose an admission control mechanism for Cloud computing. In particular we consider the high volume of simultaneous requests for Cloud services and develop admission control for aggregated traffic flows to address this challenge. By employ network calculus, we determine effective bandwidth for aggregate flow, which is used for making admission control decision. In order to improve network resource allocation while achieving Cloud service QoS, we investigate the relationship between effective bandwidth and equivalent capacity. We have also conducted extensive experiments to evaluate performance of the proposed admission control mechanism

Cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access in cognitive radio

This letter studies the application of non-orthogonal multiple access to a downlink cognitive radio (termed CR-NOMA) system. A new cooperative transmission scheme is proposed aimed at exploiting the inherent spatial diversity offered by the CR-NOMA system. The closed-form analytical results are developed to show that the cooperative transmission scheme gives better performance when more secondary users participate in relaying, which helps achieve the maximum diversity order at secondary user and a diversity order of two at primary user. The simulations are performed to validate the performance of the proposed scheme and the accuracy of the analytical results

AbstractScientists have aimed at exploring land use and land cover (LULC) and their environmental influence in order to improve our understanding of the causes and consequences of these phenomena. This study addresses and use and land cover change (LUCC) in the upper reaches of Pearl River Delta, China, from 1990 to 2008. Based on remotely sensed images of Landsat, LUCC and land surface temperature were assessed. Results showed that land surface temperature was highly influenced by the LUCC from 1990 to 2008. An examination of the relationship between the LULC and LST maps was finally conducted to comprehension their interactions. Results indicated that Landsat image was effective for quantifying the heat environment and providing reliable measurements of land use change. LST was found to be positively correlated with impervious surface but negatively correlated with vegetated land. Each temperature zone was associated with a dominant LULC category

Green construction ecosystem was studied. The author analyses the system of construction, and proposed the system of green construction based on ecology theory which was included subsystem of the condition, process and objective on the ecosystem in order to lay the foundation for system evaluation. The text analyses elements of green construction system, which would help to improve the competitiveness of green construction for construction enterprises, and meet the requirements of environmentally friendly, resource-saving society. The competitiveness of green construction was considered with objective which was evaluated to maximize the competitiveness, and it overcomes the current competitiveness evaluation from the owners and the interests of construction enterprises ignoring the ecological environment. It is a new method which could provide a strong support as a business strategy based on ecological environmental protection, development and green construction program formulation. Analyses indicators of competitiveness and the relationship of the construction phase, it could identify the main reason for the green effect, and find the need to improve measures in order to lay the foundation for further enhancing the competitiveness of construction enterprises

Purpose: To determine the effect of a combination of omeprazole and high-dose proton pump inhibitor (PPI) on the treatment of patients with liver cirrhosis complicated with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Methods: A total of 100 patients with liver cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage who were admitted to Qingdao Chengyang District People’s Hospital from January 2019 to September 2020 were matched and randomly assigned to a control group and a study group. Patients in both groups received a high-dose PPI treatment, while those in the study group were given omeprazole in addition to highdose PPI. Total treatment effectiveness, incidence of adverse reactions, bleeding volume, hemostasis time, liver function after treatment, Quality of Life Index (QLI) scores, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores, and bleeding (%) at 1, 2 and 4 weeks after treatment were compared for the two groups of patients. Results: Omeprazole-PPI combination produced a much more favorable outcome than treatment with only high-dose PPI, in terms of effectiveness, QLI scores and liver function (p < 0.05). The study group had significantly lower incidence of adverse reactions, bleeding volume, VAS scores, and degree of bleeding at 1, 2 and 4 weeks after treatment, as well as shorter hemostasis time, than the control group (p < 0.05).Conclusion: A combination treatment of omeprazole and high-dose PPI produces better therapeutic effect than high-dose PPI alone, in patients with liver cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage
