Anosmia and Ageusia as the Only Indicators of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
The patient is a 60-year-old woman with a history of vertigo and seasonal allergies who presented to the hospital with the chief complaint of headache. Radiological findings were negative for intracranial abnormalities. The headache was due to trigeminal neuralgia. She had concurrent complaints of anosmia and ageusia without fever, respiratory symptoms, or obvious risk factors. However, it was determined to test the patient for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection despite extremely low clinical suspicion. Unfortunately, she was found to be COVID-19 positive after she was discharged from the hospital while she remained asymptomatic. There is currently a lack of published case reports describing COVID-19 patients with the sole symptoms of anosmia and ageusia in the United States of America
Iron Deficiency Anemia: An Unexpected Cause of an Acute Occipital Lobe Stroke in an Otherwise Healthy Young Woman
A 29-year-old caucasian woman who presented to the hospital with an acute onset of right eye visual disturbance and headache was found to have an acute left occipital lobe infarction. Past medical history was significant for iron deficiency anemia (IDA) secondary to menorrhagia. Her initial hemoglobin level was 7.8 G/DL, and her symptoms improved after iron and blood transfusions. Hypercoagulable studies were completed in the outpatient setting, and the results were unremarkable. Her acute stroke was most likely related to IDA as she had low cardiovascular risk factors along with a negative complete stroke workup
A Cross-cultural Analysis of Brand Personality: Comparisons of China’s and the US Energy Companies’ English Websites
With the rapid development of economic globalization, projecting a positive image overseas and creating world famous brands have become vital to enhance industrial and national core competencies and execute the "Going out" strategy. To achieve the goals, corporates attach significance to establish and maintain corporate websites in view of its convenience, autonomy and interactivity while encountering cross-cultural challenges. This study employs corpus analytical tools to conduct content analysis on the existing cross-cultural differences and the linguistic and cultural features, between Chinese and US energy companies’ websites based on Aaker’s brand personality framework and Hofstede’s cultural dimension theory. Findings reveal that there is a significant difference between occurrence frequencies of brand personality dimensions between China and US, and their websites linguistic discrepancies are relevant to their cultural differences. The study may provide meaningful implications on employing linguistic theories and methods to conduct multidisciplinary studies on corporate communication online
Galilean invariance of lattice Boltzmann models
It is well-known that the original lattice Boltzmann (LB) equation deviates
from the Navier-Stokes equations due to an unphysical velocity dependent
viscosity. This unphysical dependency violates the Galilean invariance and
limits the validation domain of the LB method to near incompressible flows. As
previously shown, recovery of correct transport phenomena in kinetic equations
depends on the higher hydrodynamic moments. In this Letter, we give specific
criteria for recovery of various transport coefficients. The Galilean
invariance of a general class of LB models is demonstrated via numerical
experiments
The Photometric Investigation of V921 Her using the Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope of Chang'e-3 mission
The light curve of V921 Her in ultraviolet band observed by the Lunar-based
Ultraviolet Telescope (LUT) is analyzed by the Wilson-Devinney code. Our
solutions conclude that V921 Her is an early type marginal contact binary
system with an additional close-in component. The binary system is under poor
thermal contact with a temperature difference of nearly between the two
components. The close-in component contributes about of the total
luminosity in the triple system. Combining the radial velocity study together
with our photometric solutions, the mass of the primary star and secondary one
are calculated to be , . The evolutionary scenario of V921 Her is discussed.
All times of light minimum of V921 Her available in the bibliography are taken
into account and the curve is analyzed for the first time. The most
probable fitting results are discussed in the paper, which also confirm the
existence of a third component ( year) around the binary system. The
period of V921 Her is also undergoing a continuously rapid increase at a rate
of , which may due to mass
transfer from the less massive component to the more massive one
Massive Dirac fermions and spin physics in an ultrathin film of topological insulator
We study transport and optical properties of the surface states which lie in
the bulk energy gap of a thin-film topological insulator. When the film
thickness is comparable with the surface state decay length into the bulk, the
tunneling between the top and bottom surfaces opens an energy gap and form two
degenerate massive Dirac hyperbolas. Spin dependent physics emerges in the
surface bands which are vastly different from the bulk behavior. These include
the surface spin Hall effects, spin dependent orbital magnetic moment, and spin
dependent optical transition selection rule which allows optical spin
injection. We show a topological quantum phase transition where the Chern
number of the surface bands changes when varying the thickness of the thin
film.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Lattice Boltzmann model with hierarchical interactions
We present a numerical study of the dynamics of a non-ideal fluid subject to
a density-dependent pseudo-potential characterized by a hierarchy of nested
attractive and repulsive interactions. It is shown that above a critical
threshold of the interaction strength, the competition between stable and
unstable regions results in a short-ranged disordered fluid pattern with sharp
density contrasts. These disordered configurations contrast with
phase-separation scenarios typically observed in binary fluids. The present
results indicate that frustration can be modelled within the framework of a
suitable one-body effective Boltzmann equation. The lattice implementation of
such an effective Boltzmann equation may be seen as a preliminary step towards
the development of complementary/alternative approaches to truly atomistic
methods for the computational study of glassy dynamics.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
