Onsite data processing and monitoring for the Daya Bay Experiment

The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment started running on September 23, 2011. The offline computing environment, consisting of 11 servers at Daya Bay, was built to process onsite data. With current computing ability, onsite data processing is running smoothly. The Performance Quality Monitoring system (PQM) has been developed to monitor the detector performance and data quality. Its main feature is the ability to efficiently process multi-data-stream from three experimental halls. The PQM processes raw data files from the Daya Bay data acquisition system, generates and publishes histograms via a graphical web interface by executing the user-defined algorithm modules, and saves the histograms for permanent storage. The fact that the whole process takes only around 40 minutes makes it valuable for the shift crew to monitor the running status of all the sub-detectors and the data quality

High-performance blob-based iterative three-dimensional reconstruction in electron tomography using multi-GPUs

Abstract

Background

Three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction in electron tomography (ET) has emerged as a leading technique to elucidate the molecular structures of complex biological specimens. Blob-based iterative methods are advantageous reconstruction methods for 3D reconstruction in ET, but demand huge computational costs. Multiple graphic processing units (multi-GPUs) offer an affordable platform to meet these demands. However, a synchronous communication scheme between multi-GPUs leads to idle GPU time, and a weighted matrix involved in iterative methods cannot be loaded into GPUs especially for large images due to the limited available memory of GPUs.

Results

In this paper we propose a multilevel parallel strategy combined with an asynchronous communication scheme and a blob-ELLR data structure to efficiently perform blob-based iterative reconstructions on multi-GPUs. The asynchronous communication scheme is used to minimize the idle GPU time so as to asynchronously overlap communications with computations. The blob-ELLR data structure only needs nearly 1/16 of the storage space in comparison with ELLPACK-R (ELLR) data structure and yields significant acceleration.

Conclusions

Experimental results indicate that the multilevel parallel scheme combined with the asynchronous communication scheme and the blob-ELLR data structure allows efficient implementations of 3D reconstruction in ET on multi-GPUs.</p

Differential Diagnosis of Solitary Pulmonary Inflammatory Lesions and Peripheral Lung Cancers with Contrast-enhanced Computed Tomography

OBJECTIVES: To clarify differences between solitary pulmonary inflammatory lesions and peripheral lung cancers with contrast-enhanced computed tomography. METHODS: In total, 64 and 132 patients with solitary pulmonary inflammatory masses/nodules and peripheral lung cancers, respectively, were enrolled in this study. Their computed tomographic findings were summarized and compared retrospectively. RESULTS: Compared with the peripheral lung cancers, the inflammatory lesions were located closer to the pleura (

    (Z)-4-[4-(Dimethylamino)benzylidene]-3-methylisoxazol-5(4H)-one

The title compound, C13H14N2O2, an isoxazol-5-one derivative, was synthesized by a one-pot, three-component condensation reaction of methyl acetoacetate, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde. All the non-H atoms are co-planar [r.m.s deviation = 0.0039 Å], with a Z configuration about the C=C bond. The dihedral angle between the phenyl ring and the isoxazole ring is 2.58 (19)°

The structure of the title compound, [Zn(C8H4O4)(C6H8N2)2]n, exhibits polymeric zigzag chains extended along the c axis. The ZnII ion is coordinated by two N [Zn—N = 2.008 (6) and 2.012 (6) Å] and two O [Zn—O = 1.959 (5) and 1.985 (5) Å] atoms in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Weak C—H⋯O interactions contribute to the crystal packing stability

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for acute leukemia with Gilbert's syndrome

Acute leukemia with coexisting Gilbert's syndrome treated by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is rarely reported. Here we described a case whose transaminase levels were almost normal, although transient hyperbilirubinemia repeatedly happened during chemotherapy

N N bar,Delta bar N, Delta N bar excitation for the pion propagator in nuclear matter

The particle-hole and Delta -hole excitations are well-known elementary excitation modes for the pion propagator in nuclear matter. But, the excitation also involves antiparticles, namely, nucleon-antinucleon, anti-Delta-nucleon and Delta-antinucleon excitations. These are important for high-energy momentum as well, and have not been studied before, to our knowledge. In this paper, we give both the formulas and the numerical calculations for the real and the imaginary parts of these excitations.Comment: Latex, 3 eps file
