On the scalar nonet in the extended Nambu Jona-Lasinio model

We discuss the lightest scalar resonances, f0(600)f_0(600), κ(800)\kappa(800), a0(980)a_0(980) and f0(980)f_0(980) in the extended Nambu Jona-Lasinio model. We find that the model parameters can be tuned, but unnaturally, to accommodate for those scalars except the f0(980)f_0(980). We also discuss problems encountered in the K Matrix unitarization approximation by using NcN_c counting technique.Comment: 23 pages 3 eps figures, To appear in Nucl. Phys.

Bounds for eigenvalue ratios of the Laplacian

For a bounded domain Ω\Omega with a piecewise smooth boundary in an nn-dimensional Euclidean space Rn\mathbf{R}^{n}, we study eigenvalues of the Dirichlet eigenvalue problem of the Laplacian. First we give a general inequality for eigenvalues of the Laplacian. As an application, we study lower order eigenvalues of the Laplacian and derive the ratios of lower order eigenvalues of the Laplacian.Comment: 14 page

Formation of superheavy nuclei in cold fusion reactions

Within the concept of the dinuclear system (DNS), a dynamical model is proposed for describing the formation of superheavy nuclei in complete fusion reactions by incorporating the coupling of the relative motion to the nucleon transfer process. The capture of two heavy colliding nuclei, the formation of the compound nucleus and the de-excitation process are calculated by using an empirical coupled channel model, solving a master equation numerically and applying statistical theory, respectively. Evaporation residue excitation functions in cold fusion reactions are investigated systematically and compared with available experimental data. Maximal production cross sections of superheavy nuclei in cold fusion reactions with stable neutron-rich projectiles are obtained. Isotopic trends in the production of the superheavy elements Z=110, 112, 114, 116, 118 and 120 are analyzed systematically. Optimal combinations and the corresponding excitation energies are proposed.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figure

Magnetic control of the pair creation in spatially localized supercritical fields

We examine the impact of a perpendicular magnetic field on the creation mechanism of electron-positron pairs in a supercritical static electric field, where both fields are localized along the direction of the electric field. In the case where the spatial extent of the magnetic field exceeds that of the electric field, quantum field theoretical simulations based on the Dirac equation predict a suppression of pair creation even if the electric field is supercritical. Furthermore, an arbitrarily small magnetic field outside the interaction zone can bring the creation process even to a complete halt, if it is sufficiently extended. The mechanism for this magnetically induced complete shutoff can be associated with a reopening of the mass gap and the emergence of electrically dressed Landau levels

δ\delta meson effects on neutron stars in the modified quark-meson coupling model

The properties of neutron stars are investigated by including δ\delta meson field in the Lagrangian density of modified quark-meson coupling model. The Σ−\Sigma^- population with δ\delta meson is larger than that without δ\delta meson at the beginning, but it becomes smaller than that without δ\delta meson as the appearance of Ξ−\Xi^-. The δ\delta meson has opposite effects on hadronic matter with or without hyperons: it softens the EOSes of hadronic matter with hyperons, while it stiffens the EOSes of pure nucleonic matter. Furthermore, the leptons and the hyperons have the similar influence on δ\delta meson effects. The δ\delta meson increases the maximum masses of neutron stars. The influence of (σ∗,ϕ)(\sigma^*,\phi) on the δ\delta meson effects are also investigated.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 4 table
