    Dentures is used to replace tooth loss. The most used denture base material is acrylic resin. The biological properties of acrylic resins give microorganisms the ability to colonize. Certain type of microorganism often found at the dentures base is Candida albicans. Denture’s disinfection is usually used to reduce Candida albicans. One of natural source that now is being widely researched is Ricinus communis oil. The purpose of this study was to analyze disinfection effect of Ricinus communis oil 10% on Candida albicans counts on heat polymerized acrylic resin. This research is an experimental laboratory study with a post-test only design. Samples was heat polymerization acrylic resin plates measuring 10 x 10 x 1 mm were made in the Department of Prosthodontic Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara with 10 plates for each for 10% Ricinus communis oil group and 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate group (control). The Candida albicans colonies count was carried out in the Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara using colony counter. The data obtained was statistically count with the Kruskal-Wallis Test. The result showed the decrease in Candida albicans count with the highest value in the 10% Ricinus communis oil group is 9 x 100 CFU/ml and the highest value in the 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate group is 0 x 100 CFU/ml. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant results with p value of 0.0001 (p <0.05) indicating there was a disinfection effect of 10% Ricinus communis oil and 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate on Candida albicans count of heat polymerized acrylic resin.     This study aims to determine the effect of soaking thermoplastic nylon denture bases in alkaline peroxide and 10% castor oil on the number of candida albicans, surface roughness, color stability, and flexural strength. This research method is laboratory experimental using thermoplastic nylon. The results showed that there was an effect of alkali peroxide and 10% castor oil on the number of candida albicans for eight days (p = 0.03) and 12 days (p = 0.003), there was no effect on surface roughness for eight days (p = 0.299 ), and there was an effect on surface roughness for 12 days (p=0.09). There was no effect on color stability and flexural strength for eight days and 12 days (p>0.05). This is the diffusion process between alkaline peroxide and castor oil into thermoplastic nylon, castor oil concentration, soaking time, and soaking temperature. In conclusion, drinking thermoplastic nylon denture base in 10% castor oil has the same results as soaking in alkaline peroxide.   Keywords: Candida Albicans, Surface Hardness, Flexural Strength, Thermoplastic Nylon, Color Stability &nbsp

    PENGARUH LAMA DESINFEKSI DENGAN ENERGI MICROWAVE TERHADAP PERUBAHAN DIMENSI DAN JUMLAH CANDIDA ALBICANS BASIS GIGI TIRUAN RESIN AKRILIK POLIMERISASI PANAS: DISINFECTION DURATION EFFECT OF MICROWAVE ENERGY TO DIMENSIONAL CHANGE AND QUANTITY OF CANDIDA ALBICANS ON HEAT POLYMERIZATION ACRYLIC RESIN DENTURE BASE

    Metode desinfeksi dengan energi microwave merupakan metode yang efektif karena dapat membunuh beberapa mikroorganisme. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama desinfeksi dengan energi microwave terhadap perubahan dimensi dan jumlah Candida albicans basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas serta korelasi antara perubahan dimensi dan jumlah Candida albicans basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas terhadap lama desinfeksi dengan energi microwave. 64 sampel resin akrilik polimerisasi panas berbentuk batang uji berukuran 65 mm x 10 mm x 2,5 mm digunakan pada penelitian ini, dan dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok untuk pengukuran perubahan dimensi dan 4 kelompok untuk penghitungan jumlah Candida albicans, yaitu masing-masing 8 sampel didesinfeksi dengan microwave berdaya 800 watt selama 2, 3, 4 menit dan kontrol. Data dianalisis dengan uji Anova satu arah dan Pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada pengaruh lama desinfeksi dengan energi microwave terhadap perubahan dimensi basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas dengan nilai p= 0,001, dan terhadap jumlah Candida albicans pada basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas dengan nilai p= 0,001, namun tidak ada korelasi antara perubahan dimensi dan jumlah Candida albicans untuk setiap kelompok. Sebagai kesimpulan, desinfeksi dengan energi microwave dapat dilakukan dalam 3 menit dengan daya 800 watt, karena efektif mendesinfeksi basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas dan perubahan dimensi yang terjadi masih termasuk dalam batas toleransi
