SDGS in children during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia

This global pandemic negatively affects many aspects of children and adolescent health in Indonesia, including our journey in achieving SDGs. Even before the pandemic, our country is not yet on the right track in our SDGs journey with no national comprehensive programs. If we do not urgently address the problems in our nation’s health system, the COVID-19 pandemic can be detrimental to our SDGs progress

Pengaruh model pembelajaran berbasis masalah terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa di SMP Swasta Hidayatul Islam

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) Model pembelajaran Berbasis masalah terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa di kelas VIII SMP Swasta Hidayatul Islam pada materi Persamaan Linear Satu Variabel (2) Adanya pengaruh yang signifikan dari model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan model pembelajaran konvensional terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta Hidayatul Islam pada materi persamaan linear satu variabel tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan ekperimen. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII yang berjumlah 70siswa. Sampel dalam penelitian ini di ambil 2 kelas yaitu kelas VIII-2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII-1 sebagai kelas kontrol. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes dalam bentuk essay. Selain itu teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji t dan uji ANAVA Satu Jalur. Temuan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan : (1) Model pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa nilai rata-rata sebesar 74,42(2) Terdapat pengaruh kemampuan komunikasi matematis antara siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran konvensional memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 74,42 dan siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran Konvensional memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar68,60. Selanjutnya berdasarkan perhitungan statistik Uji-t diperoleh angka sebesar 2,844 sedangkan harga t-tabel sebesar 1,995, dan uji ANAVA Satu Jalur yang menunjukkan f hitung sebesar 8,083 dan f tabel sebesar 3,981. Simpulan penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa baik buruknya kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa di SMP Swasta Hidayatul Islam tergantung dari baik buruknya penggunaan Model pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah

Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Adolescents and Children: A Prospective Study of Blood versus Urine Ketones in Monitoring Therapeutic Response

Background: diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a potentially lethal complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). There is no study in Indonesia that compares the much-preferred capillary beta hydroxybutirate (β-OHB) measurement to urine acetoacetate in monitoring therapeutic response of DKA in adolescents. Methods: a prospective study of 37 adolescents and children with DKA in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital was done between June 2006 and March 2011. The patients were followed until the time of DKA resolution. Hourly measurement of random blood glucose, capillary β-OHB concentration, and urine ketones were done, while blood gas analysis and electrolyte were measured every four hours. Results: median time to resolution was 21 (9-52) hours. Compared to urine ketones, capillary β-OHB concentration showed stronger correlation with pH (r= -0,52, p= 0,003 vs r= -0,49, p= 0,005) and bicarbonate level (r=-0,60, p=0.000 vs r= -0.48, p=0.007) during the median time of DKA resolution. All capillary β-OHB measurement yielded negative results at median time of DKA resolution, while urine ketones were still detected up to 9 hours after resolution. Conclusion: blood ketone concentration showed better correlation with pH and bicarbonate level, as a tool to monitor therapeutic response in DKA in adolescent, compared to traditional urine ketones test in adolescents
