The importance of heritage on the overall perceived image of a place: Barcelona seen by its residents
Place branding literature generally defines heritage as a major attribute that composes place brands. Moreover, the concept of heritage is deeply connected to place identity, to the point that some authors describe it as its DNA. In this sense, the aim of this article is to test the importance of heritage on the overall perceived image of the city of Barcelona (Spain) by analyzing opinions and perceptions from its local residents. To do so, 300 citizens were surveyed from 10th December 2014 to 30th January 2015 by using a specialized questionnaire designed for studying overall place image perception. Results of the study showed that heritage was a highly valued attribute that clearly dominated above other key attributes in the minds of citizens. Finally, potential opportunities and advantages for Barcelona’s brand arising from those perceptions are discussed
Quantum phase transitions in three-leg spin tubes
We investigate the properties of a three-leg quantum spin tube using several
techniques such as the density matrix renormalization group method, strong
coupling approaches and the non linear sigma model. For integer spins S, the
model proves to exhibit a particularly rich phase diagram consisting of an
ensemble of 2S phase transitions. They can be accurately identified by the
behavior of a non local string order parameter associated to the breaking of a
hidden symmetry in the Hamiltonian. The nature of these transitions are further
elucidated within the different approaches. We carry a detailed DMRG analysis
in the specific cases S = 1. The numerical data confirm the existence of two
Haldane phases with broken hidden symmetry separated by a trivial singlet
state. The study of the gap and of the von Neumann entropy suggest a first
order phase transition but at the close proximity of a tricritical point
separating a gapless and a first order transition line in the phase diagram of
the quantum spin tube.Comment: 20 pages, 18 figure
Ground states of quantum kagome antiferromagnets in a magnetic field
We study the ground state properties of a quantum antiferromagnet in the
kagome lattice in the presence of a magnetic field, paying particular attention
to the stability of the plateau at magnetization 1/3 of saturation. While the
plateau is reinforced by certain deformations of the lattice, like the
introduction of structural defect lines and against an Ising anisotropy, ground
state correlations are seen to be quite different and the undistorted SU(2)

Creating agent platforms to host agent-mediated services that share resources
After a period where the Internet was exclusively filled with content,
the present
efforts are moving towards services, which handle the raw information to
create
value from it. Therefore labors to create a wide collection of
agent-based services
are being perfomed in several projects, such as Agentcities does.
In this work we present an architecture for agent platforms named
a-Buildings. The
aim of the proposed architecture is to ease the creation, installation,
search and
management of agent-mediated services and the share of resources among
services.
To do so the a-Buildings architecture creates a new level of abstraction
on top of
the standard FIPA agent platform specification.
Basically, an a-Building is a service-oriented platform which offers a
set of
low level services to the agents it hosts. We define low level services
as those
required services that are neccesary to create more complex high level
composed
