Detection of Equine Herpesvirus Infection: Sensitivity Assay of Polymerase Chain Reaction
The study was designed to identify the potential diagnostic tool with minimum detection limit in a clinical sample for Equine Herpesvirus Strain -1. An approach of molecular diagnostics was used using reported primers of polymerase chain reaction using in the sample obtained from repository. The PCR primers were specific to ORF 16 gene of EHV-1. Sensitivity assay of PCR detection was performed by making dilutions of EHV-1 positive DNA sample and running each dilution in a PCR and visualizing amplicons in ethidium bromide stained agarose gel under UV radiation. Study was valuable in determining the efficiency of PCR for quick and reliable source as disease survilance.disease surveillance is as equal important as treatment, Without surveillance and diagnostics it is not possible to prevent and control any disease. Key words: EHV-1, Equine Herpes Virus; PCR, Polymerase Chain reaction, ORF 16
Comparative Study of IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, 802.20, Standards for Distributed VANET
This paper investigates the simulation time and real time use of IEEE wireless standards for distributed VANET. Inter vehicle communication in VANET requires the appropriate use of wireless standard which support high data rate along with better communication range in sparse as well as in dense situation. This paper study different wireless standards supported by VANET and compare their parameters (range, data rate, and frequency band). It finally concludes the best suitable standard for real time and simulation time environment
A retrospective study of brochoscopic profile of patients in a tertiary care centre
Background: The purpose of this study was to find out the demographic profiles, indications, bronchoscopic findings and diagnosis of the patients who underwent bronchoscopic examination. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 200 consecutive fiber-optic bronchoscopies was performed at RMCH from June 2015 to June 2017 to find out the demographic and clinical profile of the patients who underwent this procedure. The instrument Olympus video bronchoscope was used for the procedure. Results: Among total of 200 patients, 131 (65.5%) were males and 69 (34.5%) patients were females. 150 (75%) patients were smokers and 50 (25%) patients were non- smokers. Cough was the most common presenting symptom in 180 (90%) of the patients followed by breathlessness 138 (69%), chest pain 114 (57%), hemoptysis 80 (40%), fever 66 (33%). The most common finding is endobronchial growth in 119 (59.5%) followed by nonspecific inflammation 40 (20%), inconclusive 21 (10.5%), normal 12 (6%), suspected growth 8 (4%).Out of 200 patient biopsy was done in 65 patients (32.5%) and most common histopathological diagnosis was malignancy 42 (64.61%), pulmonary tuberculosis 10 (15.38%), Infective pathology 9 (13.8%), inconclusive 4 (6.1%).Conclusions:Bronchoscopy is a safe and useful tool for making the diagnosis of a variety of pulmonary diseases. Endobronchial growth and malignancy were the commonest findings on bronchoscopy and histopathological examination respectively. Moreover, we would like to emphasize the importance of attempting biopsy from the abnormal segment of the lung even when bronchoscopy does not show frank mucosal growth.
From Questions to Effective Answers: On the Utility of Knowledge-Driven Querying Systems for Life Sciences Data
We compare two distinct approaches for querying data in the context of the
life sciences. The first approach utilizes conventional databases to store the
data and intuitive form-based interfaces to facilitate easy querying of the
data. These interfaces could be seen as implementing a set of "pre-canned"
queries commonly used by the life science researchers that we study. The second
approach is based on semantic Web technologies and is knowledge (model) driven.
It utilizes a large OWL ontology and same datasets as before but associated as
RDF instances of the ontology concepts. An intuitive interface is provided that
allows the formulation of RDF triples-based queries. Both these approaches are
being used in parallel by a team of cell biologists in their daily research
activities, with the objective of gradually replacing the conventional approach
with the knowledge-driven one. This provides us with a valuable opportunity to
compare and qualitatively evaluate the two approaches. We describe several
benefits of the knowledge-driven approach in comparison to the traditional way
of accessing data, and highlight a few limitations as well. We believe that our
analysis not only explicitly highlights the specific benefits and limitations
of semantic Web technologies in our context but also contributes toward
effective ways of translating a question in a researcher's mind into precise
computational queries with the intent of obtaining effective answers from the
data. While researchers often assume the benefits of semantic Web technologies,
we explicitly illustrate these in practice
Head neck neuroblastoma in early childhood: a rare case report
Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) comprise a heterogeneous group of malignancies from cells derived from the neural crest with neuroendocrine differentiation. Neuroblastoma is an embryonal malignancy of the sympathetic nervous system arising from neuroblasts (pluripotent sympathetic cells). It can be sporadic or nonfamilial in origin. Despite the differences in the site of origin, nomenclature, biological behaviour, and functional status, NETs share certain immunohistochemical and ultrastructural features. NETs are relatively rare tumors with an annual incidence of 6 new cases per 100000 inhabitants. It is primarily a tumor of abdominal origin from where it metastasizes to lymph nodes, liver, orbital sites, and central nervous system. Head and neck NETs are uncommon. We report a rare case of neuroblastoma in a 3-year-old child presenting with an unusual large fungating mass in left parotid region
