    Low-cost modular devices for on-road vehicle detection and characterisation

    [EN] Detecting and characterising vehicles is one of the purposes of embedded systems used in intelligent environments. An analysis of a vehicle¿s characteristics can reveal inappropriate or dangerous behaviour. This detection makes it possible to sanction or notify emergency services to take early and practical actions. Vehicle detection and characterisation systems employ complex sensors such as video cameras, especially in urban environments. These sensors provide high precision and performance, although the price and computational requirements are proportional to their accuracy. These sensors offer high accuracy, but the price and computational requirements are directly proportional to their performance. This article introduces a system based on modular devices that is economical and has a low computational cost. These devices use ultrasonic sensors to detect the speed and length of vehicles. The measurement accuracy is improved through the collaboration of the device modules. The experiments were performed using multiple modules oriented to different angles. This module is coupled with another specifically designed to detect distance using previous modules¿ speed and length data.     A survey on quality of service support on middelware-based distributed messaging systems used in multi agent systems

However, the Quality of Service is treated in different way depending on the messaging system used. This article presents a review and further analysis of the quality of service treatment in the mainly messaging systems used in distributed multi agent systems. The review covers the issues related to the purpose of the functions provided and the scope of the quality of service offered by every messaging system. We propose ontology for classifying and decide which parameters are relevant to the user.     Event Management Proposal for Distribution Data Service Standard

The proposal allows user to optimize the use of DDS in networked control systems (NCS). DDS offers a simple event management system based on message filtering. The aim of the proposal is to improve the event management with three main elements: Events, Conditions and Actions. Actions are the new element proposed. Actions perform basic operations in the middleware, discharging the process load of control elements. The proposal is fully compatible with the standard and can be easily added to an existing system.     Relationship between quality of control and quality of service in mobile robot navigation

To do this, a simulated navigation scenario of Braitenberg vehicles has been developed. To test the efficiency, the architecture uses the performance as QoS parameter. The measuring of the quality of the navigation is done through the ITAE QoC parameter. Tested scenarios are: an environment without QoS and QoC man-aging, an environment with a relevant message filtering and an environment with a predictive filtering by the type of control.     Este artículo analiza la adaptación de la norma técnica CCII-N2016-2 de documentación de proyectos de ingeniería informática para su aplicación en Trabajos de Fin de Grado o Máster. Se examina la conveniencia de esta adaptación y se proponen diversas opciones. Se realiza un análisis de las ventajas e inconvenientes de estas opciones tanto para los estudiantes como para los tribunales de evaluación. Además, se lleva a cabo una búsqueda de Trabajos Fin de Grado y Trabajos Fin de Máster realizados en universidades españolas donde se haya utilizado dicha norma en mayor o menor medida. Los resultados revelan que las tres opciones son empleadas, lo que sugiere la conveniencia de proponer una solución que homogenice los trabajos

    Consenso Delphi sobre la transición de pediatría a adulto en las consultas de epilepsia

    Delphi; Neuropediatría; TransiciónDelphi; Paediatric neurology; TransitionDelphi; Neuropediatria; TransicióIntroduction The transition from paediatric to adult neurology consultations in patients with epilepsy must be understood as a process in which the patient acquires independence in the management of their disease and faces new issues related to adulthood. The aim of this study is to gather the opinion of experts in epilepsy on this transition in order to issue recommendations. Methods Using a Delphi consensus process, 54 paediatric and adult neurologists with expertise in epilepsy expressed their degree of agreement on 38 statements on about the transition from paediatric to adult consultations, grouped into the following sections: (1) preparation and moments prior to transition; (2) transition process; and (3) moments after the transition and follow-up. Results After 2 rounds, consensus was reached for 33 statements (86.8%). For the remaining 5 statements (13.2%), there was neither agreement nor disagreement. Among the subjects for which consensus was strongest was the involvement of the patient and family, who must be provided sufficient information to resolve their doubts and concerns. Before referral, the clinical report must be reviewed to ensure that it contains all relevant information on the disease. During the first follow-up visits after the transition, the patient's knowledge should be brought up to date in order to promote their autonomy. Conclusion The clinical report, early preparation, and complete case review are considered fundamental in the process of transition from paediatric to adult neurology care.Introducción La transición desde neuropediatría a las consultas de neurología para adultos en pacientes con epilepsia ha de entenderse como un proceso en el que el paciente adquiere una independencia en el manejo de la enfermedad y afronta nuevos aspectos relacionados con la edad adulta. El objetivo de este estudio es conocer la opinión de expertos en epilepsia sobre esta transición para poder ofrecer recomendaciones. Métodos Mediante un consenso Delphi, 54 neuropediatras y neurólogos expertos en epilepsia mostraron su grado de acuerdo en 38 aseveraciones sobre la transición de pediatría a la consulta de adultos agrupadas en los siguientes bloques: 1) preparación y momento previo a la transición; 2) durante la transición; y 3) momento posterior a la transición y seguimiento. Resultados Tras dos rondas, se alcanzó un consenso en el acuerdo en 33 aseveraciones (86,8%). En las 5 aseveraciones restantes (13,2%) no hubo ni acuerdo ni desacuerdo. Entre los acuerdos más importantes destaca la implicación del paciente y la familia a los que es necesario aportar información suficiente para disipar sus dudas y miedos. Antes de la derivación, se ha de comprobar que el informe clínico contiene toda la información relevante de la enfermedad. Durante las primeras visitas de seguimiento tras la transición, se han de actualizar los conocimientos de los pacientes para lograr su autonomía.     De la pizarra al circuito: una metodología para mejorar el aprendizaje en las prácticas de diseño lógico

    En este artículo se presenta una metodología que pretende servir de apoyo para una mejor comprensión, por parte del alumno, de los conceptos de diseño de circuitos digitales. Dicha metodología se aplica a las prácticas de laboratorio y utiliza dos herramientas metodológicas complementarias. Tradicionalmente las prácticas de apoyo relacionadas con lógica digital se vienen realizando, en la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, en entrenadores lógicos, los cuales presentan el principal inconveniente de su limitación de uso y complejidad creciente del montaje en relación a la magnitud del circuito. El objetivo principal de la metodología propuesta es ofrecer una herramienta de aprendizaje basada en simulaciones, que permita al alumno poner en práctica los conceptos que posteriormente serán utilizados en la implementación de circuitos en el entrenador.     A Game-Theory method to design job rotation schedules to prevent musculoskeletal disorders Based on workers preferences and competencies

    [EN] Job rotation is an organizational strategy based on the systematic exchange of workers between jobs in a planned manner according to specific criteria. This study presents the GS-Rot method, a method based on Game Theory, in order to design job rotation schedules by considering not only workers' job preferences, but also the competencies required for different jobs. With this approach, we promote workers' active participation in the design of the rotation plan. It also let us deal with restrictions in assigning workers to job positions according to their disabilities (temporal or permanent). The GS-Rot method has been implemented online and applied to a case in a work environment characterized by the presence of a high repetition of movements, which is a significant risk factor associated with work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). A total of 17 workstations and 17 workers were involved in the rotation, four of them with physical/psychological limitations. Feasible job rotation schedules were obtained in a short time (average time 27.4 milliseconds). The results indicate that in the rotations driven by preference priorities, almost all the workers (94.11%) were assigned to one of their top five preferences. Likewise, 48.52% of job positions were assigned to workers in their top five of their competence lists. When jobs were assigned according to competence, 58.82% of workers got an assignment among their top five competence lists. Furthermore, 55.87% of the workers achieved jobs in their top five preferences. In both rotation scenarios, the workers varied performed jobs, and fatigue accumulation was balanced among them.     Mobile-Based Distributed System for Managing Abandoned or Lost Pets

System is based on the use of smart mobile devices to provide message warnings of animals localized. Messages are stored in a database to be processed. In order to enter data such as photography, audio and artificial images, system uses different mobile device interfaces. Data processing consists mainly in matching localized animals with lost animals, assigning abandoned animals at shelters and generating notifications for animal shelters or authorities. Currently, the system is in the development phase.     Assessing the impact of continuous evaluation strategies: tradeoff between student performance and instructor effort

In this approach, the teaching/learning process should accomplish both knowledge assimilation and skill development. Previous works demonstrated that a strategy that uses continuous evaluation is able to meet both objectives. However, those studies did not evaluate and quantify the additional effort required to implement such strategies. This paper evaluates the additional instructor effort required when implementing continuous evaluation in a first-year Computer Fundamentals course in the Computer Engineering degree program at the Technical University of Valencia, Spain. The experiment quantifies how instructor workload increases under different continuous evaluation strategies and how this affects the overall student grade. Both the standard continuous evaluation method and the intensive continuous evaluation method are analyzed, the latter being a proposal that builds upon the standard method by increasing the number of tests and examinations.
