Application of multi sensor data fusion based on Principal Component Analysis and Artificial Neural Network for machine tool thermal monitoring

    Get PDF
Due to the various heat sources on a machine tool, there exists a complex temperature distribution across its structure. This causes an inherent thermal hysteresis which is undesirable as it affects the systematic tool –to-workpiece positioning capability. To monitor this, two physical quantities (temperature and strain) are measured at multiple locations. This article is concerned with the use of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to fuse this potentially large amount of data from multiple sources. PCA reduces the dimensionality of the data and thus reduces training time for the ANN which is being used for thermal modelling. This paper shows the effect of different levels of data compression and the application of rate of change of sensor values to reduce the effect of system hysteresis. This methodology has been successfully applied to the ram of a 5-axis gantry machine with 90 % correlation to the measured displacement

An innovative approach to manage prosumers in smart grid

    Get PDF
Smart Grid (SG) achieves bidirectional energy and information flow between the energy user and the utility grid, allowing energy users not only to consume energy, but also to generate the energy and share with the utility grid or with other energy consumers. This type of energy user is called the "prosumer". The sustainability of the SG energy sharing process depends on its participating prosumers. Hence the prosumer management schemes are crucial within the energy sharing field. However, the existing literature on SG energy sharing has shown little attention on prosumer participation and management. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First we critically analyze the prosumer management schemes used by existing approaches and identify the open research issues. Second, we introduce a novel concept to manage the prosumers in the form of goal oriented virtual prosumer-communities and we discuss the aspects of prosumer-community formation, growth and overall management. The main significance of this approach is that the prosumer-communities facilitate the prosumers with similar interest to join together and increase the quantity of energy to be auctioned to the SG and accordingly increase the bargaining power in the energy market. In addition, the prosumer communities can attain more sustainable energy sharing process in long-term

Analysis of Roller Unit Assembly of Calcination Drum

Solid waste management is posing a great problem as the population is increasing day by day. The municipal sewage waste has to be disposed properly otherwise it will lead to air pollution and cause the serious effects on the health of human beings. The most common practice adopted is generating methane from municipal solid waste. For this purpose it is necessary that the municipal solid waste which is sent for further processing should be in the form of homogenous mass. In order to form the homogenous mass it is necessary that it should be separated in degradable and non degradable. This degradable waste is then converted into fine particles. To achieve this task the engineers have designed a special instrument named Calcination Drum. Usually Calcination Drum is also known as Rotary Kilns. In primary stage when the Calcination Drum was implemented it was found that some problems were encountered. The main aim of this project is to solve the problems related to guide ring and support roller shaft of Calcination Drum. The shaft is redesigned by changing its material and considering all forces acting on it. Similarly the modified fabrication process is also suggested for guide ring. In this paper Analysis of roller shaft, roller and Calcination drum is carried out and the stress and deformation is found out in static and dynamic condition. For theoretical calculations of shaft the standard data is taken from design data book and for guide ring Hertz contact stress theory is used

Content quality assessment related frameworks for social media

    Get PDF
The assessment of content quality (CQ) in social media adds a layer of complexity over traditional information quality assessment frameworks. Challenges arise in accurately evaluating the quality of content that has been created by users from different backgrounds, for different domains and consumed by users with different requirements. This paper presents a comprehensive review of 19 existing CQ assessment related frameworks for social media in addition to proposing directions for framework improvements

Effect of antiplatelet/anticoagulant agents in elderly patients of chronic subdural hematoma: a case control study from a tertiary care centre

    Get PDF
Background: Bleedings are well known risks of both antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy and both therapies have historically been considered as risk factors for CSDH. The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between exposure to anticoagulant/antiplatelet therapy and chronic subdural haematoma (CSDH).Methods: Single institution case-control study was conducted in patients older than 60 years who visited our academic tertiary care Emergency Department from January 2012 to December 2016. Patients with CSDH were identified by review of case and controls were selected with a 1:3 ratio for gender, age (60 years), year of admission and recent trauma. Results: There were 124 cases and 372 controls included in the study. Both anticoagulant and antiplatelet agents were associated with an increased risk of CSDH with an OR of 1.22 (CI 95% 0.66-1.54) and 1.12 (CI 95% 0.68-1.54), respectively. While OR was 1.11 (CI 95% 0.54-2.32), 1.21 (CI 95% 0.61-2.45), and 0.53 (CI 95% 0.33-0.78) for patients receiving oral anticoagulants, ADP-antagonists, and Cox-inhibitors, respectively. History of recent trauma was an effective modifier of the association between anticoagulants and CSDH. OR of 1.69 (CI 95% 0.99-2.96) was found for patients with history of trauma and OR of 4.27 (CI 95% 2.23-8.32) for patients without history of trauma. Conclusions: Anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy have a significant association with an increased risk of CSDH. This association appears even stronger in those patients under anticoagulant therapy, who develop a CSDH in the absence of a recent trauma.

Real-time public group collaboration using IP multicast label filters

    Get PDF
Internet based enterprise level collaboration tools enable organizations to make decisions faster and more accurately with less effort. However, these tools provide limited real-time group collaboration within and across organizations. Multicast protocols were developed to provide efficient group communication. This paper proposes a novel IP multicast network layer filter architecture that provides efficient and scalable real-time group collaboration between the required entities within an organization. This proposed network architecture uses a label filter mechanism to improve scalability and bandwidth for one-to-many and many-to-many real-time collaboration

    Get PDF
This paper describes a middleware intended to support the development of mashup applications in mobile and ubiquitous learning environments. It is based on a framework that integrates different contextual information (e.g. geographic location, profile, history) and services from e-learning platforms or other learning tools. The integration of the services into the middleware is carried out through a reconfigurable plug and play architecture based on Web Services. It provides a better and more flexible management of the involved services in the system
