Skipper: An American-Russian Space Effort
In an experiment that seeks not only scientific information but information about how two very different cultures can work together, the Skipper satellite project is a ground-breaking partnership between Russian and American scientists that will explore the physical mechanisms that produce spacecraft optical emissions. Built jointly by the Americans and Russians, the satellite will be integrated with a Russian Molnia rocket and launched from the Bakinor space center in Kazakhstan. The origins of this unusual project, how its design evolved to meet time and funding constraints, and how the satellite will operate in space are the subject of this paper
The Measurement of the Asymmetry of Tensor-Polarized Deuteron Electrodisintegration at 180 MeV Electron Energy
The nucleon emission asymmetry in d(e, pn)e' reaction was measured using the tensor-polarized deuterium jet target in the VEPP-2 electron storage ring. At the present experimental accuracy, the results for the proton energy interval Ep= 12-100 MeV do not contradict the nonrelativistic calculations.
Added noise in homodyne measurement of field-observables
Homodyne tomography provides a way for measuring generic field-operators.
Here we analyze the determination of the most relevant quantities: intensity,
field, amplitude and phase. We show that tomographic measurements are affected
by additional noise in comparison with the direct detection of each observable
by itself. The case of of coherent states has been analyzed in details and
earlier estimations of tomographic precision are critically discussed.Comment: Two figures. Submitted to Phys. Lett.

New Data from SND Detector in Novosibirsk
The current status of experiments with SND detector at VEPP-2M e^+e^-
collider in the energy range 2E_0=400-1400 MeV and recent results of data
analysis for , and decays and e^+e^- annihilation into

Gamma-ray strength function and pygmy resonance in rare earth nuclei
The gamma-ray strength function for gamma energies in the 1-7 MeV region has
been measured for 161,162-Dy and 171,172-Yb using the (3-He,alpha gamma)
reaction. Various models are tested against the observed gamma-ray strength
functions. The best description is based on the Kadmenskii, Markushev and
Furman E1 model with constant temperature and the Lorentzian M1 model. A
gamma-ray bump observed at E_gamma=3 MeV is interpreted as the so-called pygmy
resonance, which has also been observed previously in (n,gamma) experiments.
The parameters for this resonance have been determined and compared to the

Optical guided dispersions and subwavelength transmissions in dispersive plasmonic circular holes
The light transmission through a dispersive plasmonic circular hole is
numerically investigated with an emphasis on its subwavelength guidance. For a
better understanding of the effect of the hole diameter on the guided
dispersion characteristics, the guided modes, including both the surface
plasmon polariton mode and the circular waveguide mode, are studied for several
hole diameters, especially when the metal cladding has a plasmonic frequency
dependency. A brief comparison is also made with the guided dispersion
characteristics of a dispersive plasmonic gap [K. Y. Kim, et al., Opt. Express
14, 320-330 (2006)], which is a planar version of the present structure, and a
circular waveguide with perfect electric conductor cladding. Finally, the modal
behavior of the first three TM-like principal modes with varied hole diameters
