    MOCVD-Fabricated TiO2 Thin Films: Influence of Growth Conditions on Fibroblast Cells Culture

    TiO2 thin films with various morphologies were grown on Ti substrates by the LP-MOCVD technique (Low Pressure Chemical Vapour Deposition from Metal-Organic precursor), with titanium tetra-iso-propoxide as a precursor. All the films were prepared in the same conditions except the deposition time. They were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, optical 15 interferometry, water contact angle measurements. MOCVD-fabricated TiO2 thin films are known to be adapted to cell culture for implant requirements. Human gingival fibroblasts were cultured on the various TiO2 deposits. Differences in cell viability (MTT tests) and cell spreading (qualitative assessment) were observed and related to film roughness, wettability and allotropic composition

    Violation of Bell's inequalities implies distillability for N qubits

    We consider quantum systems composed of NN qubits, and the family of all Bell's correlation inequalities for two two-valued measurements per site. We show that if a NN-qubit state ρ\rho violates any of these inequalities, then it is at least bipartite distillable. Indeed there exists a link between the amount of Bell's inequality violation and the degree of distillability. Thus, we strengthen the interpretation of Bell's inequalities as detectors of useful entanglement.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, REVTEX. List of authors extended.     Chains of Quasi-Classical Informations for Bipartite Correlations and the Role of Twin Observables

    Having the quantum correlations in a general bipartite state in mind, the information accessible by simultaneous measurement on both subsystems is shown never to exceed the information accessible by measurement on one subsystem, which, in turn is proved not to exceed the von Neumann mutual information. A particular pair of (opposite- subsystem) observables are shown to be responsible both for the amount of quasi-classical correlations and for that of the purely quantum entanglement in the pure-state case: the former via simultaneous subsystem measurements, and the latter through the entropy of coherence or of incompatibility, which is defined for the general case. The observables at issue are so-called twin observables.     Progress in noncommutative function theory

    In this expository paper we describe the study of certain non-self-adjoint operator algebras, the Hardy algebras, and their representation theory. We view these algebras as algebras of (operator valued) functions on their spaces of representations. We will show that these spaces of representations can be parameterized as unit balls of certain W∗W^{*}-correspondences and the functions can be viewed as Schur class operator functions on these balls. We will provide evidence to show that the elements in these (non commutative) Hardy algebras behave very much like bounded analytic functions and the study of these algebras should be viewed as noncommutative function theory

    Measurement of Time-of-Arrival in Quantum Mechanics

    It is argued that the time-of-arrival cannot be precisely defined and measured in quantum mechanics. By constructing explicit toy models of a measurement, we show that for a free particle it cannot be measured more accurately then ΔtA∌1/Ek\Delta t_A \sim 1/E_k, where EkE_k is the initial kinetic energy of the particle. With a better accuracy, particles reflect off the measuring device, and the resulting probability distribution becomes distorted. It is shown that a time-of-arrival operator cannot exist, and that approximate time-of-arrival operators do not correspond to the measurements considered here.Comment: References added.     INFLUENCE OF UTLTRASOUNDS ON STRUCTURAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF PbS DEPOSITED ON GLASS SUBSTRATE

    Chemical bath deposition (CBD) and ultrasonic chemical bath deposition (US-CBD) on glass substrates of PbS crystals from lead nitrate, thiourea alkaline aqueous solutions have been studied. The influence of the ultrasonic vibration on the PbS crystals deposition by CBD through observing the changes in structure and morphology was studied. Structural properties were investigated by X ray -diffraction and the average grain size has been calculated applying different methods. Ultrasounds lead to an increase of crystallites size and strain. SEM micrographs showed that the PbS obtained from static baths are formed from near spherical grains with average size of 183 nm while in the case of ultrasonic baths cubical particles of 257 nm were formed

    From Things to Services: A Social IoT Approach for Tourist Service Management

    In the context of Internet of Things (IoT), the cooperation and synergy between varied and disparate communicating objects is strained by trustworthiness, confidentiality and interoperability concerns. These restrictions can limit the development of IoT-based applications especially considering the emergent boost in the number of communicating objects and their growing itinerant nature in a collective service context. A new perspective arises with the paradigm of Social Internet of Things (SIoT), that relies on the implementation of semi-independent communicating objects with cooperation assessed by social relations and social feed-back. In this article, we present the development and expansion of the IoT concept towards SIoT in the context of the interactions between tourist services as communicating objects. As a proof-of-concept we propose a composition of services as virtualized social objects and the interaction between them, by taking into consideration the balance, trustworthiness, cooperation and synergy of services. Furthermore we present a solution to integrate also accessibility in SIoT services. The presented concept is presented using a demonstrator build for tourist services

It is shown that the stabiliser is generically discrete, and that a larger stabiliser indicates a stationary value for some local invariant.
