Any linear programming problem marked as P and called ”primal” can be seen in connection with another linear programming problem marked as D and called ”dual”. The economic interpretation of the dual model brings about new information when analyzing such phenomena and when substantiating decision makingLinear programming problem, duality

Ambivalent Identifications: Narcissism, Melancholia, and Sublimation

Beginning with Freud’s treatment of identification as an ambivalent process, we explore identification’s polarization between narcissistic idealization and melancholic division. While narcissistic identification can be seen as a strategy adopted by the ego to avoid the educational development of its drives and to maintain itself either in whole or in part in an infantile state, melancholic identification activates a tension between the ego-ideal and the real ego at the expense of the latter. After discussing the ambivalence of identification, we review Freud’s discussion of mass formations as group identifications, arguing that the work of facilitating a productive sublimation of the drives cannot be reduced to a strengthening of the artificial masses represented by social institutions such as the church and the educational system. Instead, the difference between mass formations allowing for collective sublimation and those suffering from narcissistic or melancholic blockages must be found in the productive qualities of the mass itself. In closing, we outline a few ways in which we might begin to understand the political contribution of masses to the maturation of human drives

Showing Their True Colors? How EU Flag Display Affects Perceptions of Party Elites’ European Attachment

    Get PDF
Evidence suggests that incidental national flag exposure activates nationalistic feelings and that incidental exposure to the EU flag can affect citizen attachments to Europe. However, we know little about what inferences citizens make based on the EU flag when they see it displayed by parties in an electoral context. To test the expectation that this display affects citizens’ evaluations of party elites’ EU attachment, we conducted a large-scale experiment embedded in a Swedish survey in which respondents were exposed to communications from one of the two main Swedish parties, containing or not containing the image of the flag. We find that simple visual display does little to move perceptions. However, if citizens perceive that a particular party displayed the flag, then they are more likely to evaluate its party elites as more attached to Europe

In this paper were studied by comparison microelements (Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, Pb, Co, Cr) and vitamin C content of some commercial spices: ground black pepper (Piper nigrum), sweet paprika, cayenne pepper (Capsicum annuum) and powder cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum). For this purpose, the mineral elements mentioned were quantified by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS), for their determination was used the atomic absorption spectrophotometer’s contr AA 300, Analytik Jena and the vitamin C content was analyzed by 2,6-diclorindofenol method using as standard ascorbic acid solution, 0.5 mg / ml. This work attempts to contribute to knowledge of the nutritional properties of these plants. These results may be useful for the evaluation of dietary information. Principal component analysis (PCA) was carried out for quantitative mineral concentration and vitamin C content. Among microelements, Cu, Zn and Mn were found in the highest concentration in whole investigated vegetable material

A Site Evaluation Campaign for a Ground Based Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope in Romania

Around the world, several scientific projects share the interest of a global network of small Cherenkov telescopes for monitoring observations of the brightest blazars - the DWARF network. A small, ground based, imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope of last generation is intended to be installed and operated in Romania as a component of the DWARF network. To prepare the construction of the observatory, two support projects have been initiated. Within the framework of these projects, we have assessed a number of possible sites where to settle the observatory. In this paper we submit a brief report on the general characteristics of the best four sites selected after the local infrastructure, the nearby facilities and the social impact criteria have been applied.Comment: 6 pages, 5 Postscript figure
