    A Survey on Comparisons of Cryptographic Algorithms Using Certain Parameters in WSN

    The Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have spread its roots in almost every application. Owing to their scattered nature of sensor nodes, they are more prone to attacks. There are certain applications e.g. military, where sensor data’s confidentiality requirement during transmission is essential. Cryptography has a vital role for achieving security in WSNs.WSN has resource constraints like memory size, processing speed and energy consumption which bounds the applicability of existing cryptographic algorithms for WSN. Any good security algorithms has higher energy consumption by the nodes, so it’s a need to choose most energy-efficient cryptographic encryption algorithms for WSNs. This paper surveys different asymmetric algorithms such as RSA, Diffie-Hellman, DSA, ECC, hybrid and DNA cryptography. These algorithms are compared based on their key size, strength, weakness, attacks and possible countermeasures in the form of table

    Carbapenem Resistance in Clinical Isolates of Enterobacteriaceae : A Global Health Concern

    Introduction: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) has gradually emerged and is one of the serious public health concerns worldwide. Aim: To detect Carbapenem Resistance in clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae and Carbapenamase production by performing Modified Hodge Test (MHT) and Combined Disc Test (CDT). Material & Methods: Identification of Isolates was done by standard bacteriological techniques. The isolates were screened for carbapenem resistance by Kirby-bauer disc diffusion method using Ertapenem as per CLSI recommendation. Detection of carbapenemase production was done by Modified Hodge test and Combined Disc test. Result: A total of 931 clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceace were obtained from various clinical samples. Out of which isolates of Escherichia coli were 295 (31.68%). All these isolates were screened for Carbapenem resistance..Out of 931 isolates, 710 (76.26%) isolates were carbapenem screen positive. Maximum carbapenem resistance was seen in Klebsiella pneumoniae, 307 (43.23 %). Out of 710 carbapenem resistant isolates, 567 (79.85%) were carbapenemase producers.  Conclusion: Early detection, isolation and contact precaution for CRE patient will to prevent rapid dissemination of CRE infection.     Dental Neglect among Children And Their Parents In District Panchkula

    AIM- To evaluate the relationship between dental neglect, dental caries and socio-economic status in 3 to 15 years old children. INTRODUCTION- Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases treatment of which is being highly neglected especially in children. Dental Neglect (DN) is persistent failure to meet a child’s basic oral health needs, likely to result in serious impairment of the child’s general health and development. Dental Neglect scale appears to be an appropriate method for objectifying dental neglect.  MATERIALS AND METHOD- The sample consisted of fifty parent children dyads, parents were asked to fill the questionnaires assessing their dental neglect and socio-economic status. Caries were assessed using the WHO criteria (2013). RESULTS- Study showed that a greater dental neglect score (21.16) was reported among children belonging to low socio-economic status. A higher DMFT (2.08) and DMFS (3.0) scores were found to be significantly associated with higher DN

    Association between Body Mass Index, Dental Caries (DMFT& PUFA) And Socioeconomic Status in 12 to 15 Year Old School Children

    Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between body mass index, dental caries (DMFT), untreated dental caries (PUFA) and socioeconomic status in 12 to 15 year old school children. Material and methods: The study sample consisted of 800 children aged 12 to 15 years, who were selected from 8 schools located in the district-Panchkula (Haryana). Intraoral examination was done for assessment of dental caries by using DMFT index (WHO, 2013).The clinical manifestations of untreated dental caries were assessed visually by using the PUFA index (2010). Socioeconomic status of children was assessed by using Kuppuswami’s socioeconomic scale 2016. After one week, anthropometric measurements of children were taken to calculate the body mass index (BMI) of children. Results: Among 800 school children, 503 (62.9%) children had dental caries. The body mass index (BMI) of children was weakly correlated with DMFT (r=0.285) and PUFA (r=0.109) whereas average correlation was found between BMI and SES (r= 0.424). On applying chi-square test, a statistical significant correlation was found between BMI and DMFT (p<0.01), BMI and PUFA (p<0.01) and BMI and SES (p<0.01). SES of children was weakly correlated with DMFT (r= 0.216) but no correlation was found between SES and PUFA (r=0.052, p=0.145). Conclusion: The study concluded that a significant but weak positive correlation was seen between dental caries and BMI. A significantly positive correlation was found between PUFA and BMI. The severity of dental caries increased with increase in BMI. No correlation was found between PUFA and SES

    Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and its applicability in aquaculture systems and aquatic animal health management: An overview

    Global aquaculture production in 2012 touched new high of 90.4 million tonnes including 66.6 million tonnes of food fish and 23.8 million tonnes of aquatic algae providing 19.2 kg per capita food fish suppy. Aquaculture is reported to suffer heavy production and financial losses due to fish infections caused by microbial pathogens. Therefore in order to make aquaculture industry more sustainable, effective strategies to control fish infections are urgently needed. Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) is an emerging, low-cost anti-microbial approach to the treatment of locally occurring infections and also for the treatment of aquaculture water and waste waters. Already proven effective in various medical and clinical applications, it utilizes three vital components: a photosensitizing agent (PS), a light source of an appropriate wave length and oxygen. aPDT has got a potential of being a preferred choice over antibiotics in aquaculture systems because of its non-target specificity, few side effects, lack of the pathogenicity reversal and re-growth of the micro-organism after treatment and the lack of development of resistance mechanisms. The technique has been proved effective in vitro against bacteria (including drug-resistant strains), yeasts, fungi, viruses, parasites and even the stubborn biofilms. Although preliminary results indicate that this technology has a high potential to disinfect waters in aquaculture system and also in hatcheries and seed production units, but it clearly needs more deep knowledge and multi-dimenstional approach

    A study of prevalence of obesity and its correlates among government and private school children in Hyderabad: a comparative study

    Background: Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in India in the 21st Century, affecting 5% of the country’s population. Childhood obesity is an emerging problem in urban Indian children and increase in childhood overweight and obesity may be a major contributor to adult obesity epidemic. Hence present study has been planned with the objective to study and compare the prevalence of obesity in government and private schools and also to study the risk factors associated with obesity.Methods: An institution based cross sectional study was carried out among 718 school children of randomly selected government and private schools of Hyderabad city. Students were enquired about their physical activity and dietary habits as per the questionnaire. Anthropometry measurements like height and weight were recorded for each student. Data was analyzed using appropriate statistical tests.Results: Prevalence of obesity was found to be 21.09% among private school children and 19% in government school children. Physical activity factors like conveyance to school and less frequency of outdoor games were significantly associated with obesity. Diet related determinants like intake of soft drinks, sweets, pizza, fruits were found to be associated with obesity.Conclusions: It can be concluded that the prevalence of obesity in schools of Hyderabad is very high and it is positively associated with inappropriate exercise and improper dietary practices.

    Phenolic and antioxidant capacity retention of potato peel waste as a function of cultivar, pretreatment and drying procedure

    Drying procedures employed for potato peels (both raw and boiled) may adversely affect the useful bioactivecomponents present in them. This study envisaged the identification of a feasible drying procedure for handlingbulk potato peel waste for maximising the retention of phytochemicals in the peel powder. The total phenols (TP), flavonoids (TF) and antioxidant capacity (TAC) were assessed in peels of three commercial and one newly developed anthocyanin rich Indian potato cultivars in response to boiling pretreatment and varying drying procedures. Microwave drying (600W) was best in terms of drying rate for both raw and boiled peels. It yielded the greatest amount of TP and TF in the dried raw peel, irrespective of cultivar. Dried raw peels of an thocyanin rich Kufri Neelkanth cultivar exhibited maximum TAC. Retention of TF, metal scavenging activity and reducing power followed almost a similar pattern as TP irrespective of cultivar, pretreatment and drying procedure. Our study shows that potato peel from Kufri Neelkanth (raw) and Kufri Frysona (both raw and boiled) are best source of phenolics and flavonoids and can serve as a suitable matrix for extraction of bioactive compounds which holds promise for use in the food industry

    Impact of health education on knowledge and attitude of self-breast examination among female nursing students

    Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and a leading cause of death worldwide, including in India. Breast cancer usually shows a slow development rate, and when it is recognized in the early stages, successful treatment results can be achieved. Breast self-examination is a screening option for young women. Health awareness programs on screening and early detection are the cornerstones for reducing the morbidity and mortality resulting from breast cancer. Objective: To assess the impact of health education on knowledge and attitude of self-breast examination among nursing students. Study Design: The present interventional study was conducted between September and October 2019. Setting: This study was done among 79 nursing students of a tertiary care hospital situated in a central district of Uttar Pradesh. Main Outcome Measures: The self-reported pre-designed and structured questionnaire was used. It included three sections: 1. Sociodemographic profile 2. Knowledge regarding self-breast examination (SBE) 3. Attitude regarding self-breast examination (SBE). Knowledge and attitude scores were calculated and divided into the poor, average, and good categories. Results: There were 87.3% of girls had prior knowledge of the self-breast examination, while 12.7% of girls were not aware of the self-breast examination. Post-intervention, there was a significant increase (p<0.05) in their knowledge about self-breast examination. Conclusion and Relevance: Planned teaching intervention had a significant impact on the knowledge and attitude of self-breast examination. The knowledge and attitude were poor at the early stages, but it had increased significantly after the health education intervention

    Decrease in alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin is observed in primary Sjogren's syndrome condition

    Primary Sjogren’s syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune disease that is characterized by the infiltration of immune cells. Although the loss of salivary gland function is a major manifestation observed in pSS, the factors that could promote these changes in salivary gland tissue in pSS is not yet determined. Herein, we provide evidence that loss of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin could contribute to the induction of pSS. Alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin belongs to the family of serpin proteins that function as protease inhibitors and protect secretory cells against proteases, especially to elastases that is secreted from lymphocytes. Importantly, expression of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin was decreased (more than 3-fold), along with an increase in elastase expression, in pSS samples when compared with age-matched non-SS-SICCA patients. Consistent with the human data, loss of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin, as well as an increase in immune infiltration, was observed in IL14α transgenic mice that exhibit SS like symptoms. Moreover, an age-dependent increase in elastase expression was observed in IL14α transgenic mice along with a decrease in total saliva secretion. Importantly, a 4-fold increase in microRNA132 expression, but not in other microRNAs, and increased DNA methylation in the promoter/noncoding region of serpina gene was observed in pSS, which could be responsible for the inhibition of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin expression in salivary gland cells of pSS patients. Together, these findings demonstrate that epigenetic regulations that include DNA methylation and microRNAs that could modulate the expression of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin in salivary glands and could be involved in the onset of pSS
