Background: Identification of a high risk pregnancy by Coopland score helps the obstetrician to identify patient at high risk and also elaborate a prognosis of pregnancy. The present study was conducted to evaluate perinatal outcomes in high and low risk pregnancies. Methods: In the present study of 100 cases of high risk caesarean section were evaluated and compared with 100 cases of low risk caesarean sections over a period of two years. Results: 40% and 28% of the high risk and low risk group respectively had low birth weight baby. In the high risk group, 2% had neonatal death, while these figures were 0% in the control group respectively. 28% babies in the study group and 18% babies in the control group had mild to severe depression and Apgar score below 6-4. 42% and 12% babies in the high risk and low risk group respectively had perinatal morbidity which was in the form of prematurity, IUGR, respiratory distress syndrome and birth asphyxia. 7% and 4% cases in both study and control group respectively had poor perinatal outcome. Conclusions: We suggest Coopland risk scoring for every case admitted for a caesarean section, which will be definitely helpful in predicting and evaluating the eventual perinatal outcomes. Appropriate timely care and referral can have a positive impact in lowering the perinatal mortality and morbidity and possibly better maternal outcome

In this paper, we first introduce the notion of recurrent Ricci tensor which is the generalization of parallel Ricci tensor in the complex quadric Qm = SOm+2 /SOm SO2. After then, we investigate real hypersurfaces of the complex quadric Qm with the condition of recurrent Ricci tensor and give the glimpse of full classification with this condition

Successful live birth after heterotopic ruptured cornual pregnancy with twin intrauterine gestation in an in vitro fertilization conception

Heterotopic pregnancies, especially in the cornual region which were a rarity till recent times, have become a more common occurrence due to increasing practice of assisted reproduction. Optimal management of such cases is imperative to manage the risk of hypotension and shock in case of rupture and to judiciously preserve the intrauterine pregnancy. Here we are reporting a case of IVF conception of twin intrauterine pregnancy with a cornual heterotopic pregnancy. Patient presented to the emergency department with features of acute abdomen, haemoperitoneum and shock. Ultrasound findings were suggestive of rupture of cornual heterotopic pregnancy, 1500 ml haemoperitoneum with live twin intrauterine gestation. Patient was resuscitated with iv fluids blood transfusion. Immediate laparotomy was done and cornual site repaired and covered with an omental patch while preserving the intrauterine gestations. Thereafter, pregnancy was carefully monitored with a high index of suspicion for rupture of site of cornual repair with advancing gestational age. Patient was readmitted at 24 weeks with pain abdomen and cornual site was found to be 4mm in thickness. She was managed conservatively till 27 weeks when she had preterm rupture of membranes and emergency LSCS was done. She delivered healthy twin male babies, 780 gmb and 795 gm respectively. This case demonstrates that cornual heterotopic pregnancy is a diagnosis which may be easily missed and can present as a life-threatening complication if it ruptures and significant intraperitoneal bleeding occurs. However, it is possible to successfully manage these cases with timely intervention, proper uterine reconstruction and monitoring of intrauterine gestation

PURPOSE: To correlate the structural and functional changes following intravitreal injection of dexamethasone 0.7 mg (Ozurdex®) implant in patients with recalcitrant uveitic cystoid macular edema (CME). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a prospective, interventional, nonrandomized study, 30 eyes (27 patients) with uveitic CME received Ozurdex® implant and were followed-up for 24 weeks at periodic intervals to monitor structural alterations seen on spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). The outcome measures included change in central macular thickness (CMT) and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) as well as structural alterations seen on OCT such as change in the height of cystoid spaces (CSs) and sub-foveal serous retinal detachment (SSRD). The integrity of external limiting membrane and inner-outer segment junction was assessed at baseline and follow-up visits. RESULTS: Mean age of the patients was 46.09 ± 15.66 years. The mean CMT decreased by 96 μm at 1-day, 231.64 μm at 1-week, 254.21 μm at 4 weeks and 249.14 μm at 12 weeks (P \u3c 0.001) compared with baseline. BCVA improved from a baseline mean of 0.62 LogMAR units to 0.49 on day 1 to 0.31 at 24 weeks (P \u3c 0.001). A decrease in the mean height of CS, that is, 133.28 μm from a baseline of 317.71 μm was noted on the 1 st day (P \u3c 0.001). 4 eyes demonstrated the presence of CS at 4 weeks, 1 eye at 6 weeks and 3 eyes at 12 weeks. At baseline, 16 eyes (53.33%) demonstrated the presence of SSRD. Among these, 11 eyes showed resolution of SSRD on day 1. SSRD resolved in all patients at 4 weeks and was maintained up to 24 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: Ozurdex® implant improves the visual outcome of patients with recalcitrant uveitic CME. Reversibility of retinal changes may be possible following treatment with dexamethasone implant. Thus final visual outcome may be independent of pretreatment CMT, the height of CS or SSRD

Schwannoma of the infratemporal fossa - A rare case report

    Get PDF
Schwannoma is a benign nerve sheath tumour that originates from schwann cells of the peripheral nerve. In spite of constituting 25-40% of head and neck tumours its in-traoral presentation is rare which accounts for only 1%. The purpose of this case report is to highlight the rarity of this lesion, to emphasize the significance of an accurate diagnosis and to include tumours of nerve sheath origin in the differential diagnosis of facial asymmetry

Antiandrogen and Antimicrobial Aspects of Coordination Compounds of Palladium(II), Platinum(II) and Lead(II)

Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activities of an interesting class of biologically potent macrocyclic complexes have been carried out. All the complexes have been evaluated for their antimicrobial effects on different species of pathogenic fungi and bacteria. The testicular sperm density, testicular sperm morphology, sperm motility, density of cauda epididymal spermatozoa and fertility in mating trails and biochemical parameters of reproductive organs have been examined and discussed. The resulting biologically active [M(MaLn)(R2)]Cl2 and [Pb(MaLn)(R2)X2] (where, M = PdII or PtII and X = Cl or NO3) type of complexes have been synthesized by the reactions of macrocyclic ligands (MaLn) with metal salts and different diamines in 1:1:1 molar ratio in methanol. Initially the complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations and conductivity measurements. The mode of bonding was established on the basis of IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 195Pt NMR, 207Pb NMR, XRD and electronic spectral studies. The macrocyclic ligand coordinates through the four azomethine nitrogen atoms which are bridged by benzil moieties. IR spectra suggest that the pyridine nitrogen is not coordinating. The palladium and platinum complexes exhibit tetracoordinated square-planar geometry, whereas a hexacoordinated octahedral geometry is suggested for lead complexes

    Get PDF
Aim: To synthesize cRGDfK peptide conjugated poly(γ-glutamic acid)-phenylalanine nanoparticles to improve the therapeutic efficacy of camptothecin (CPT) against glioblastoma multiforme. Methods: Peptide-conjugated, drug-loaded nanoparticles (cRGDfK-conjugated camptothecin-loaded PGA-PA nanoparticles [RCPN]) were prepared and physico-chemically characterized using different techniques. Nanoparticles were evaluated for in vitro anticancer activity, cellular uptake, induction of apoptosis and wound healing cell migration against U87MG human glioblastoma cells. Results: RCPN, with a particle size of \u3c 100 nm and 65% CPT encapsulation efficiency, exhibited a dose-and time-dependent cytotoxicity to glioblastoma cells. Compared with native CPT or unconjugated nanoparticles, RCPN induced apoptosis, increased reactive oxygen species generation and inhibited U87MG cell migration. Conclusion: cRGDfK-mediated and amphiphilic copolymer-based nanomedicines represent a new approach for improved delivery of anticancer drugs to and treatment of glioblastoma multiforme

Sentiment Analysis Using Common-Sense and Context Information

    Get PDF
Sentiment analysis research has been increasing tremendously in recent times due to the wide range of business and social applications. Sentiment analysis from unstructured natural language text has recently received considerable attention from the research community. In this paper, we propose a novel sentiment analysis model based on common-sense knowledge extracted from ConceptNet based ontology and context information. ConceptNet based ontology is used to determine the domain specific concepts which in turn produced the domain specific important features. Further, the polarities of the extracted concepts are determined using the contextual polarity lexicon which we developed by considering the context information of a word. Finally, semantic orientations of domain specific features of the review document are aggregated based on the importance of a feature with respect to the domain. The importance of the feature is determined by the depth of the feature in the ontology. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed methods
