Quantum critical behaviour of the plateau-insulator transition in the quantum Hall regime
High-field magnetotransport experiments provide an excellent tool to
investigate the plateau-insulator phase transition in the integral quantum Hall
effect. Here we review recent low-temperature high-field magnetotransport
studies carried out on several InGaAs/InP heterostructures and an InGaAs/GaAs
quantum well. We find that the longitudinal resistivity near the
critical filling factor ~ 0.5 follows the universal scaling law
, where . The critical exponent equals ,
which indicates that the plateau-insulator transition falls in a non-Fermi
liquid universality class.Comment: 8 pages, accepted for publication in Proceedings of the Yamada

Ordered magnetic and quadrupolar states under hydrostatic pressure in orthorhombic PrCu2
We report magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements on
single-crystalline PrCu2 under hydrostatic pressure, up to 2 GPa, which
pressure range covers the pressure-induced Van Vleck
paramagnet-to-antiferromagnet transition at 1.2 GPa. The measured anisotropy in
the susceptibility shows that in the pressure-induced magnetic state the
ordered 4f-moments lie in the ac-plane. We propose that remarkable pressure
effects on the susceptibility and resistivity are due to changes in the
quadrupolar state of O22 and/or O20 under pressure. We present a simple
analysis in terms of the singlet-singlet model.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures submitted to Phys. Rev.

Threshold features in transport through a 1D constriction
Suppression of electron current through a 1D channel of length
connecting two Fermi liquid reservoirs is studied taking into account the
Umklapp electron-electron interaction induced by a periodic potential. This
interaction causes Hubbard gaps for . In the perturbative
regime where ( charge velocity), and for small deviations
of the electron density from its commensurate values
can diverge with some exponent as voltage or temperature decreases above
, while it goes to zero below . This results
in a nonmonotonous behavior of the conductance.Comment: Final variant published in PRL, 79, 1714; minor correction
Quantum-Hall activation gaps in graphene
We have measured the quantum-Hall activation gaps in graphene at filling
factors and for magnetic fields up to 32 T and temperatures
from 4 K to 300 K. The gap can be described by thermal excitation to
broadened Landau levels with a width of 400 K. In contrast, the gap measured at
is strongly temperature and field dependent and approaches the expected
value for sharp Landau levels for fields T and temperatures
K. We explain this surprising behavior by a narrowing of the lowest Landau
level.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, updated version after review, accepted for PR
Conductance of a Mott Quantum Wire
We consider transport through a one-dimensional conductor subject to an
external periodic potential and connected to non-interacting leads (a "Mott
quantum wire"). For the case of a strong periodic potential, the conductance is
shown to jump from zero, for the chemical potential lying within the
Mott-Hubbard gap, to the non-interacting value of 2e^2/h, as soon as the
chemical potential crosses the gap edge. This behavior is strikingly different
from that of an optical conductivity, which varies continuously with the
carrier concentration. For the case of a weak potential, the perturbative
correction to the conductance due to Umklapp scattering is absent away from
half-filling.Comment: 4 pages, RevTex, 1 ps figure included; published versio
The article substantiates the application of methods of economic-mathematical modeling for solving the problem of dynamics of the number and professional qualification structure of personnel in order to create an initiative, rationally operating collective, whose efforts are aimed at the effective functioning and development of the enterprise. With the help of these methods, it is likely to predict possible models of enterprise development. The peculiarities of their application are studied: the main advantage of these methods is the possibility of their use in enterprises with unstable organizational structure and in the unstable external environment, the disadvantage is the complexity of the study of all possible situations of organization development and the creation of a model that is adequate to the existing conditions.A pairwise linear regression model was developed to solve the problem of quantification of the needs of employees of all categories of staff and an optimization model for personnel management, namely, the definition of an optimal plan for retraining, advanced training, hiring and dismissal of personnel based on the criterion of minimizing total expenditures for all categories of staff by the nature of the functions performed for data of a particular enterprise. As a result of the implementation of the constructed models, the economic interpretation of the modeling results obtained and the recommendations for the change in the number and professional qualification structure of the personnel of a particular enterprise, as well as the formation of its personnel reserve, that is, the formation of such a group of workers who are potentially capable of managing activities, meet the necessary requirements, have been selected and targeted training to improve their skills.Advantages of creating a personnel reserve group are to ensure continuity in management, increase the level of readiness of employees for changes in the organization, their motivation and loyalty, which leads to a decrease in personnel turnover and overall personnel stabilization. In addition, it can significantly save financial and time resources in recruiting, training and adapting key employees and responding in a timely manner to the company to change the external and internal environment, which is also very important.
Conductance renormalization and conductivity of a multi-subband Tomonaga-Luttinger model
We studied the conductance renormalization and conductivity of multi-subband
Tomonaga-Luttinger models with inter-subband interactions. We found that, as in
single-band systems, the conductance of a multi-subband system with an
arbitrary number of subbands is not renormalized due to interaction between
electrons. We derived a formula for the conductivity in multi-subband models.
We applied it to a simplified case and found that inter-subband interaction
enhances the conductivity, which is contrary to the intra-subband repulsive
interaction, and that the conductivity is further enhanced for a larger number
of subbands.Comment: 12 pages, no figures. to be published in Physical Review B as a brief

Technological and economic features of growing organic soybeans and winter wheat forage
This article is devoted to research of technological processes of cultivation of soybeans and winter wheat forage by the organic standards for the period of 4 years that provides observance of the crop rotation and satisfies the existing demand for organic agricultural products abroad. In this paper technological cards of cultivation of the specified crops are developed and their economic profitableness is proved due to lower expenses for fuel and biological preparations and higher prices for organic products. It is proved that economic efficiency of cultivation: soybeans by the organic standards makes in the first year 233%, and in the third 565%; winter wheat in the second year 260%, and in the fourth 513%. The cash flows calculated for four years testify about economic profitableness of the organic agriculture and its prospects in the modern conditions. On the basis of the conducted researches the risks of cultivation of soybeans and winter wheat forage by the organic standards are defined which can be minimized in 3 years by observance of the main principles of organic agriculture, being guided by the practice of I.Ovsinsky and M.Kurdyumov. The demand for grown organic agricultural products has stable dynamics to growth both within the country and abroad which ensures profitability for agricultural producer
Excess resistivity in graphene superlattices caused by umklapp electron-electron scattering
Umklapp processes play a fundamental role as the only intrinsic mechanism
that allows electrons to transfer momentum to the crystal lattice and,
therefore, provide a finite electrical resistance in pure metals. However,
umklapp scattering has proven to be elusive in experiment as it is easily
obscured by other dissipation mechanisms. Here we show that electron-electron
umklapp scattering dominates the transport properties of
graphene-on-boron-nitride superlattices over a wide range of temperatures and
carrier densities. The umklapp processes cause giant excess resistivity that
rapidly increases with increasing the superlattice period and are responsible
for deterioration of the room-temperature mobility by more than an order of
magnitude as compared to standard, non-superlattice graphene devices. The
umklapp scattering exhibits a quadratic temperature dependence accompanied by a
pronounced electron-hole asymmetry with the effect being much stronger for
holes rather than electrons. Aside from fundamental interest, our results have
direct implications for design of possible electronic devices based on
heterostructures featuring superlattices
