Epidemic dropsy is caused by consuming vegetable oil contaminated with argemone mexicana, grows as a weed along with mustard seeds and is similar to it in appearance. This has been seen commonly in this part of the world. The recent outbreak in India and Nepal clearly underline the need for disseminating knowledge to health workers about being prepared to tackle and control the outbreaks of epidemic dropsy. This study talks about the knowledge and perception about epidemic dropsy among the health workers in Sunsari. The knowledge about epidemic dropsy among the health workers was poor. Health education about epidemic dropsy, reasons for outbreak and control and preventive measures were given to the health workers of Sunsari district. Key Words: Epidemic Dropsy, Out Break, Nepal Health Worker

Background: Self-esteem is the own judgment of a person about himself or herself and appreciation of his/her value. An individual with high self-esteem has many positive effects and benefits. It is suggested that self-esteem is one of the most influential factors in the occupational behaviors of nursing students. So, the aim of the study was to assess the perception of self-esteem among Nursing Students. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among nursing students at Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital, Biratnagar, Nepal. The study was started after acquiring approval from the Institutional Review Committee of Nobel Medical College. Data was collected in the classroom through a self-administered questionnaire using the standardized tool Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) from July2021 to November 2021.A total of 238 students were taken as a sample by using the non-probability census method. Data analysis was done by descriptive study. Results: A total of 238 students participated in this study 79.4 percent had high self -esteem and 21.6 percent had low self-esteem. There was a statistically significant association between perception of self-esteem with the age of respondents, Current nursing programme and current nursing education. Conclusion: The study concluded that the majority of the respondents had high self-esteem. Acquisition of skill, knowledge, independence and acquire social, cultural and emotional adjustment increase high self-esteem.</jats:p

Kush - A Potential Biosorbent in the removal of Cd (II) and Zn (II) from aqueous solution

The industrial discharge of heavy metals into waters' course is one of the major pollution problems affecting water quality. Therefore, they must be removed prior to their discharge into waste streams. An efficient and low-cost bioadsorbent has been investigated from Desmostachya bipinnata (Kush) by charring with concentrated sulphuric acid and functionalized with dimethylamine. It was characterised by SEM, FTIR and elemental analysis. The effect of pH, initial concentration and contact time of the metal solution was monitered by batch method. The maximum adsorption capacities were determined for Cd and Zn at their optimum pH 6. The equilibrium data were analysed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. Langmuir isotherm model fitted well and the rate of adsorption followed the pseudo second order kinetic equation.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/jncs.v27i1.6669 J. Nepal Chem.
