    Comparison Of Two Methods For Demodulation Of Pulse Signals - Application In Case Of Central Sleep Apnea

    In the field of 24/7 human health monitoring, pervasive computing makes possible the continuous analysis of physiological parameters from an ambulatory device with a great acceptability. This paper presents two methods for obtaining cardiac and respiratory rates from a single arterial pressure signal: AM-FM demodulation and Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA). With the aim to monitor sleep apnea, two simulated central sleep apnea were performed and recorded with Biopac reference system. The results showed a good evaluation of the cardiac rate with Singular Spectrum Analysis and bad results with AM-FM demodulation. For the respiration rate, some other signals were tested with average results for both methods. Further experiments will deal with real sleep apnea cases and algorithm improvements

Reading times depend on the required resolution. However, specific applications in food security tend to bring closer to the source the measurements necessary to decision making. For the development of salmonella and listeria on pig carcasses, the measurements taken directly at slaughter need to be interpreted within less than an hour, so that the decision of meat usage in a fresh/cooking circuit does not have significant economic consequence. We developed a method for marking immediately after impacting carcass, which makes it possible to read fluorescence signals 30 minutes after sampling. However, the sampling method leaves the sample some organic residues, whose irregularities in the thickness and the surface can cause problems in reading and interpretation with conventional scanners. We propose a method of packaging and reading for the automatic counting of salmonella with fast scanning, adapted to the environment of the slaughterhouse. Detection is carried out by a 488nm excitation and a conventional 520 nm fluorescence detection using a photomultiplier. The assembly proposed uses optical fibers. It provides a resolution close to 0.5 µm, the diffraction limit at 488nm

    Micro-resonators based on integrated polymer technology for optical sensing

    International audienceResearch on sensors has experienced a noticeable development over the last decades especially in label free optical biosensors. However, compact sensors without markers for rapid, reliable and inexpensive detection of various substances induces a significant research of new technological solutions. The context of this work is the development of a sensor based on easily integrated and inexpensive micro-resonator (MR) component in integrated optics, highly sensitive and selective mainly in the areas of health and food. In this work, we take advantage of our previous studies on filters based on micro-resonators (MR) to experiment a new couple of polymers in the objective to use MR as a sensing function. MRs have been fabricated by processing SU8 polymer as core and PMATRIFE polymer as cladding layer of the waveguide. The refractive index contrast reaches 0.16 @ 1550 nm. Sub-micronic ring waveguides gaps from 0.5 to 1 µm have been successfully achieved with UV (i-line) photolithography. This work confirms our forecasts, published earlier, about the resolution that can be achieved. First results show a good extinction coefficient of ~17 dB, a quality factor around 104 and a finesse of 12. These results are in concordance with the theoretical study and they allow us to validate our technology with this couple of polymers. Work is going on with others lower cladding materials that will be used to further increase refractive index contrast for sensing applications

    Quantificação dos Planos Estratégicos Através do Orçamento Empresarial: uma Aplicação Prática com Métodos Estocásticos

    Traditionally, the process of estimating the quantitative predictions of the strategic plan through the budget happens as from the deterministic data, together with analysis of factors of internal and external environments. As from the budget data decisions are made, often before the fact, which creates uncertainty as to the assertiveness of forecasts. Combined with the traditional preparation methods of corporate budget forecasts, this study presents an application of stochastic methods where the probabilism is presented as an alternative for the minimization of uncertainties related to the assertiveness of the estimates. It also demonstrates itself, as from a practical application, the use of the Monte Carlo method in the sales forecasting; at the same time it is tested the probability of these sales forecasting be materialized within certain intervals that meet the investors’ expectations, by using the limit central theorem and, finally, by using the absorbing Markov chain, it is demonstrated the overall performance of the system as from the funds input and output. The study was limited to a basic application of stochastic methods as from a hypothetical case which, however, allowed to  conclude that both methods, together or separately, can minimize the effects of uncertainty in budget forecasts.Tradicionalmente, o processo de estimação das previsões quantitativas dos planos estratégicos por meio do orçamento se dá a partir de dados determinísticos, aliados à análise de fatores do ambiente interno e externo. A partir dos dados orçamentários, decisões são tomadas, muitas vezes antes dos fatos, o que gera incerteza quanto à assertividade das previsões. Aliada a metodologias tradicionais de elaboração de previsões do orçamento empresarial, apresenta-se neste estudo uma aplicação de métodos estocásticos em que o probabilismo se demonstra como alternativa de minimização das incertezas quanto à assertividade das estimativas. Ainda, demonstra-se, a partir de uma aplicação prática, a utilização do método de Monte Carlo na previsão de vendas; ao mesmo tempo, testa-se a probabilidade de estas se concretizarem dentro de determinados intervalos que atendam à expectativa dos investidores, usando o teorema central do limite e, por fim, utilizando a cadeia de Markov absorvente, demonstra-se o desempenho geral do sistema a partir das entradas e saídas de recursos. Limitou-se o estudo a uma aplicação básica de métodos estocásticos a partir de um caso hipotético, que, no entanto, permitiu concluir que ambos os métodos, no conjunto ou isoladamente, podem minimizar os efeitos de incerteza nas previsões orçamentárias

Il est donc important de pouvoir distinguer entre ce qui est inhérent strictement au matériau, les pertes intrinsèques, et, ce qui relève de la technologie de fabrication des guides, les pertes extrinsèques, afin d'optimiser au mieux la propagation dans ces circuits optiques. A l'aide de différentes techniques de mesure développées au laboratoire, nous essayons dans cet article de cerner les pertes limites de ces matériaux en nous appuyant aussi, sur des mesures expérimentales de guides dont nous maitrisons la technologie de mise en œuvre

    Session 7 - Green & Biophotonique (C7.2)International audiencePrédiction du rendement technologique des jambons par spectroscopie optique : mise en place et validation en contexte industriel Le rendement de fabrication des jambons est un enjeu pour l'industrie agro-alimentaire : une valeur faible de ce rendement dit technologique se traduit par une dépréciation de valeur et de qualité des jambons [1]. Le tri des carcasses pour la réalisation des jambons cuits supérieurs s'appuie sur une mesure de pH mais n'est pas optimal en terme de résultats, c'est pour cette raison que l'on essaie de lui substituer une mesure par spectromètrie. Dans ce but, un projet a été mis en place mettant en oeuvre une chaîne de mesure complète. Il suppose le design de plusieurs sondes de surface et de pénétration (afin d'explorer un site de mesure optimisé en profondeur et orientation), la mise en oeuvre d'un spectromètre (gamme visible et proche infra-rouge cf. Figure 1), puis du traitement de spectre par une méthode d'apprentissage automatique (Partial Least Square PLS cf. [2]), et l'affichage des résultats et de leur communication au sein du réseau informatique de l'industriel abatteur. Aspects historiques et objectifs L'utilisation, dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche, d'un spectromètre requière en général une phase de collecte des données, suivi d'une phase d'analyse (calibration du modèle) de ces données afin de bâtir un modèle de prédiction à l'aide de descripteurs objectifs fournis par ailleurs. Le spectromètre est un appareil connecté à un PC et comprenant un logiciel spécifique en charge de réaliser les opérations d'acquisition des spectres. Les spectres collectés sont en général transférés sur un autre ordinateur afin d'y être traités par un logiciel dédié à l'analyse statistique, une exportation des données dans un format exploitable par ce logiciel est souvent nécessaire. En routine, l'exploitation du modèle statistique issue de la calibration permet pour chaque spectre le calcul d'un ou plusieurs paramètres pertinents utilisable en tant que critère de sélection et de tri des jambons analysés

    Artico decorrente de pesquisa coletiva relizada pelo LABOMIDIA/UFSC, integrandes da rede CEDES.A cobertura midiático-esportiva da Folha de São Paulo da Copa do Mundo da FIFA África do Sul/2010 foi tomada como fonte para a identificação e análise dos processos de agendamento da Copa a ser disputada no Brasil, em 2014. Para isso, foram observadas 137 edições diárias da Folha entre 01/03/2010 e 15/07/2010, que originaram 414 registros, distribuídos em várias editorias do jornal. O material foi organizado e interpretado segundo técnicas de Análise de Conteúdo, sistematizado em seis categorias empíricas: Os estádios da Copa no Brasil; O lançamento da Copa do Brasil na África do Sul; Lições da África do Sul para a Copa no Brasil; Questões econômicas que envolvem a Copa no Brasil; A controversa questão dos financiamentos públicos; Outros temas pontuais no agendamento da Copa no Brasil. Considerações ainda preliminares apontam que esse megaevento esteve fortemente presente na cobertura do jornal, sendo suas abordagens predominantes relacionadas a questões econômicas e de infraestrutura do país-sede.Rede CEDE

    O LaboMidia/UFSC está pesquisando as estratégias de agendamento da Copa de 2014 na cobertura midiática da Copa da África do Sul. Este texto é um recorte do estudo, focado na análise da Folha de São Paulo. Em mais de cem dias de acompanhamento do jornal (01/3-14/06/2010), foram identificadas 213 matérias com referências à Copa de 2014. Ainda não foi possível proceder a categorização e análise das matérias, mas as primeiras sistematizações apontam as abordagens mais recorrentes: a) o jogo de abertura e o estádio Morumbi; b) infraestrutura aeroportuária, urbana e esportiva das cidades-sede
