openConcerns regarding effective governance in the realms of environmental protection and sustainability have taken centre stage in the EU as already reflected in the Commission’s 2001 White Paper, advocating for new modes of governance. This thesis explores the potential of network governance as an instrument for green governance in the EU. Existing literature has examined this mode of governance from various angles, but inconclusive results persist, along with the lack of comprehensive comparative studies. The present work aims to bridge this gap by conducting an in-depth analysis of the EEAC Network and the EIONET. The overarching goal is to contribute to the understanding of the nature of networks and their effectiveness in EU sustainability governance. Taking a mixed-method qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews and document analysis, this study looks at the networks’ structures and decision-making processes, as well as the functions they perform. Despite marked structural and governance differences between the EEAC Network and the EIONET, common factors influencing their behaviour become apparent, including central steering roles, resources, national institutional set-ups, participant engagement, and EU-level policy and global developments. Examining contributions and limitations on how networks promote EU environmental policy objectives related to sustainable development, this research highlights the importance of communication and trust, stakeholder inclusion, flexibility, access to decision-makers, goal consensus, and the aggregation and use of knowledge and resources. These insights enhance our comprehension of the role of networks in EU sustainability governance, shedding light on both potentials and associated challenges

The research presented in this article focuses on the effect of student use of problem solving apps on a tablet PC either prior to (motivation) or immediately after (reward) a classroom assessment. The classroom teacher developed the assessment. Continued practice throughout the school year is measured by collecting d ata on benchmark testing completed by fifth grade students in the fall, winter, and spring administrations. The team of the researcher and classroom teacher wanted to study the effect of using tablet computers in the fourth and fifth grade classrooms. Spec ifically, they wanted the answer to “Does using problem solving apps either as a motivator or reward help students perform differently on classroom assessments and high stakes tests?” This is an important question to answer for student development and the yearly evaluation of the classroom teacher. The two variable groups for the analysis includes the Pretest scaled score and the Posttest scaled score. The purpose of this analysis was to determine if using the problem solving apps helped the students throug hout the year with the three administrations of the benchmark testing. Scores for the fall administration represent the Pretest score (PreScale) and the Posttest score (PostScale) were gathered using the spring administration.Descriptive statistics on the two variables show that the posttest score has a much larger standard deviation. However, the difference does not show it as statistically significantly different. The pairedt test showed a calculated test statistic value of 0.000. The use of p=0.05 indi cates a rejection of the null hypothesis. The paired sample correlation values concurred with a statistically significantly difference. The correlation value of 0.691 indicates a significance of probability at 0.000. Since the variable change is a positive correlation value, then it is a direct correlation. The correlation value indicates a strong relationship between the variables

The Conceptualization of Leadership Behavior on Follower Job Performance and Organizational Culture: A Qualitative Case Study of Law Enforcement Leadership

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to examine the concept of leadership influence on follower job performance and organizational culture within a university police department. A case study research approach was used to answer the following four questions: (1) What relationship exists between perceived leader effectiveness and follower job performance? (2) How do leaders and followers conceptualize effective leader/follower interactions? (3) How do leaders define and describe effective leadership? and (4) How do followers define and describe effective leadership? Qualitative research methodology was used in the data collection process. This was facilitated by semi-structured interviews with employees at one university police department. A total of five participants (two leaders and three followers) participated in the interview process. The data analysis stage included a deductive analytical approach using The Leadership Grid (1985) by Blake and Mouton. The Leadership Grid assists in identifying how the study participants perceive the organization’s leadership in terms of concern for people and concern for production. Based on the collected data, the deductive findings lend support for an organizational leadership approach of Team Management. Additionally, an inductive analytical approach was used to identify common themes or patterns emerging from the data. The most prominent themes related to effective leader/follower relationships were (1) adaptability in managing people, (2) empowerment, (3) knowing the people you work with, and (4) recognition. The data support a need for additional research in the subject of effective mental health care for law enforcement professionals
