The Impact of Leadership on School Culture and Student Achievement

    Get PDF
This study examined the predictive relationship of school leadership on school culture. Given the demands of standards based education reform, the goal of every school is student achievement. The literature review examines the previous studies showing significance of leadership on culture, leadership on teacher retention, and leadership and school culture on student achievement. This study uses the School Culture Survey developed by Gruenert and Valentine (1998). It is a 35-item Likert-scale survey defining six variables; Collaborative Leadership, Teacher Collaboration, Professional Development, Unity of Purpose, Collegial Support, and Learning Partnerships. The survey was distributed electronically to an upstate South Carolina school district\u27s elementary school. The analysis of the responses was done with stepwise multiple regression and hierarchical linear modeling. By using the combination of these methods it was confirmed that leadership does have a statistically significant impact on school culture. A Post hoc test was used to determine the relationship between school culture and teacher retention and school culture and student achievement. A positive relationship was found to exist between schools with a Culture of Learning Partnerships and teacher retention and between schools with a Culture of Learning Partnerships and student achievement. Recommendations for future research and for practice are offered

    Competing values in public management

The main objective of the article is to review relevant literature on (competing) public values in public management and to present a number of perspectives on how to deal with value conflicts in different administrative settings and contexts. We start this symposium with the assumption that value conflicts are prevalent, the public context can be characterized by value pluralism, and instrumental rationality does not seem to be the most useful to understand or improve value conflicts in public governance. This begs the question: what is the best way to study and manage value conflicts? The contributions to this symposium issue approach value conflicts in public governance from different perspectives, within different countries and different administrative and management systems, hoping to contribute to the debate on how to deal with important yet conflicting public values in public management, without pretending to offer a conclusive strategy or approach. This introductory article also presents and reviews the contributions to this symposium issue. © 2011 Taylor & Francis

Introduction: The mastopexy with implants and L-shaped scarring aims to correct grades I to II breast ptosis using implants in retroglandular space and retromuscular dual plane space, at the same surgical time. The objective is to describe the experience with the L-augmentation mastopexy technique, analyzing complications and reoperations. Methods: Retrospective study of 123 patients with mild to moderate breast ptosis, operated using the L-augmentation mastopexy technique from January 2011 to November 2021 Results: The mean age of patients was 35.6 years. The average volume of implants used was 315ml (range 175 to 600ml). The placement of the prosthesis was in retroglandular (46.5%) and dual plane retromuscular space (53.5%). The average operative time was two hours and fifty-four minutes. The main complications presented were superficial dehiscence (7.3%), recurrence of ptosis (7.3%) and unsightly scars (5.7%). Surgical reviews took place in 13 patients (10.5%). Conclusion: Safe and effective mastopexy technique with implant in the treatment of mild to moderate breast ptosis, providing well designed breasts with reduced L-shaped scars

Accurate distance measurement with ultra-wideband mmWave radar

Generalized model of the isothermal vapor phase epitaxy of (Hg,Cd)Te

    No full text
A generalized model of the isothermal vapor phase epitaxy of (Hg,Cd)Te is presented, which for the first time enables us to predict the compositional profiles of the layers in dependence on growth parameters (temperature and time of deposition, mercury and inert gas partial pressures in the growth chamber, source to substrate spacing). The model can be applied to both closed and opened tube isothermal vapor phase epitaxy of (Hg,Cd)Te, and it explains quantitatively all the peculiarities of the epitaxial growth using this method. The model is confronted with experimental data, which correspond satisfactorily to the calculations without any fitting parameter

High precision real-time FMCW-radar signal processing performed on a levitating sphere control loop system

    No full text
In this paper a brief overview of a cyber-physical demonstration system for high precision real-time FMCW-radar signal processing is presented. This system is an example for the benefits of hardware acceleration in special use cases such as FMCW-radar signal processing. To highlight the real-time capabilities a highly unstable and nonlinear control loop system, called the levitating sphere, is chosen, where the signal processing affects the stability by delaying positional information through the feedback path. A signal processing chain with real-time capabilities and a processing time of 416.9 fis for 1024 16-bit FMCW-radar IF-data samples on a Xilinx Zynq-7030 platform is presented
