Joseph Cornell is one of the most significant American artists of the 20th century. His work is highly visible in the world's most prestigious galleries, including the Tate Modern and MOMA. His famous boxes and his collage work have been admired and widely studied. However, Cornell also produced an extraordinary body of film work, a serious contribution to 20th-century avant-garde cinema, and this has been much less examined. Time and film style

This thesis proposes that the temporality of the moving image is not just its basic condition, but also an alterable stylistic parameter. By analysing three broad stylistic categories of cinema - Classical Continuity-editing, Montage, and Long Take - it is demonstrated that the time of a sequence or shot operates as an active element within the formal fabric of the work. Beyond this, it shows that these film styles may in fact be defined by the characteristic ways in which they treat time. Methodologically, it adapts concepts from the philosophies of Gilles Deleuze, Henri Bergson and Hans Georg Gadamer, fusing them with close textual analysis to allow the theory to grow around the practical instance of its object. One of the primary goals is to establish a critical idiom capable of dealing appropriately and sympathetically with this neglected aspect of film aesthetics, to uncover a suitable vocabulary for talking about the expressive use of time in cinema. This study contributes to the existing body of research on cinematic time (which is primarily concerned with ontology and ideology) by addressing the distinct lack of critical and theoretical work that engages with the temporality of cinema at the microscopic level of the moment to moment passage of a scene, that is, the temporal stylistics of cinema

Perceptions of Sources of Pressure and Reasons for Dismissals of Mississippi High School Head Coaches

The coaching profession is like a roller coaster ride. A person pays to get on the ride, sacrifices their life, enjoys the highs, and survives the lows. It is a job filled with long hours, stressful days, sacrifices of health and family, and moments of adrenaline rushes that make an individual want to stay in this profession forever. The primary focus of this study was to identify the perceived sources of pressure on high school head coaches in the state of Mississippi. This study provides feedback regarding reasons for coaching dismissals and perceived sources of pressure. Two hundred and thirty four principals, 233 head football, 207 baseball, 197 softball, and 391 boys / girls basketball coaches employed in the state of Mississippi were utilized for the study. The study found that principals and coaches agreed on the top five perceived sources of pressure: coach themselves, parents, team sports, fans, and teaching. The significantly different perceived sources of pressure were individual sports, administration, family, and the media. Perceived sources of pressure between coaches of female sports and coaches of male sports were in agreement for the top six sources: coach themselves, parents, team sports, fans, teaching, and administration. The significantly different perceived sources of pressure were individual sports and parents. There was no significant difference found with perceived sources of pressure between years of experience of coaches. Principals stated that improper conduct was the main reason for dismissing coaches, followed by failure to motivate players, and the coach / player relationship. Coaches stated that failure to win was the main reason for dismissals, followed by coach / administrator relationship, and improper conduct. Both principals and coaches ranked teaching performance as the least likely reason for dismissing a coach. Whether it is playing within the rules, teaching techniques, producing a competitive team, or being a positive role model, coaches want respect from their peers, administrators, and community. Administrators and head coaches need to communicate the roles and expectations of the athletic program to ease the sources of pressure and set a common standard for reasons for dismissals

Investigating the value of radiomics stemming from DSC quantitative biomarkers in IDH mutation prediction in gliomas

ObjectiveThis study aims to assess the value of biomarker based radiomics to predict IDH mutation in gliomas. The patient cohort consists of 160 patients histopathologicaly proven of primary glioma (WHO grades 2–4) from 3 different centers.MethodsTo quantify the DSC perfusion signal two different mathematical modeling methods were used (Gamma fitting, leakage correction algorithms) considering the assumptions about the compartments contributing in the blood flow between the extra- and intra vascular space.ResultsThe Mean slope of increase (MSI) and the K1 parameter of the bidirectional exchange model exhibited the highest performance with (ACC 74.3% AUROC 74.2%) and (ACC 75% AUROC 70.5%) respectively.ConclusionThe proposed framework on DSC-MRI radiogenomics in gliomas has the potential of becoming a reliable diagnostic support tool exploiting the mathematical modeling of the DSC signal to characterize IDH mutation status through a more reproducible and standardized signal analysis scheme for facilitating clinical translation
