AN EXISTENTIAL MANIFESTO INSPIRED BY ALEJANDRA PIZARNIK: AUTOGRAPHY, ABSOLUTE STYLE AND THE ANTHROPOLOGIST

The Collins English Dictionary (2021) defines autography as “the writing of something in one's own handwriting; something handwritten” and as “the precise reproduction of an illustration or of writing”. I use the word “autography” in another sense. I define it as a journal of existence. It does not consist of an autobiography that builds up a story of one’s life, that is to say a life in a constructed form. Neither is it an auto-ethnography that concerns personal experiences of the ethnographer, with a view to shedding light on social and cultural realities. Neither is an autography a journal or notebook written by an ethnographer during his ethnographic fieldwork, specifically about his investigation. An autography is a text by oneself on oneself, written as continuously as possible, without any link to a specific field site, in the form of a journal and fragments, to understand not social facts, but one human being. Through this form, which is not reworked into a narrative story, it is existence that offers itself as a field for study

Cet article se donne seulement deux objectifs :– la critique des modalités d’observation du fait religieux en sciences sociales, des schèmes qui sous-tendent la construction et la représentation de l’objet sociologique et de la vision du monde qui en découle ;– préconisant le chemin inverse, il propose de partir de deux présupposés anthropologiques inséparables d’une vision du monde qui permette de rendre compte de l’activité d’êtres humains : la compétence interactionnelle et les limites de la rationalité ; et de montrer comment ses présupposés pourraient orienter une description et une analyse différentes du fait religieux. Il reste à confronter ces objectifs théoriques, le plus souvent nourris des avancées récentes de la sociologie de l’action, aux données de terrain...This article has two limited goals. The first one is to criticize the modalities of observation of the religious factor by the social sciences, the schemas that underlie the construction and the representation of the sociological object, and the vision of the world they entail. The author recommends a different approach which starts from two anthropological presuppositions inseparable from a vision of the world that makes it possible to account for the activity of human beings: interactional competence and the limits of rationality. The second goal is to show how these presuppositions could lead to a different description and analysis of the religious factor. A partir de l’idée de « mode mineur de la réalité », c’est-à-dire de détails non pertinents et non partagés dans une situation, cet article interroge le mode de construction ethnologique de l’objet dans son rapport aux détails. Quels sont les détails qu’il sélectionne et selon quels critères ? L’auteur examine ensuite l’alternative, aux niveaux de l’observation et de la description, que peut constituer l’image photographique. Enfin, les détails non pertinents (par exemple, ceux qui concernent les attitudes de distraction et d’engagement minimal) qu’elle fait découvrir sont pris pour objet d’un début d’analyse sociologique, en vue de préciser les caractéristiques de ce mode mineur.This paper departs from the idea of the “minor mode of reality”, that is, a set of irrelevant and unsharable details in a situation. It questions the ethnological way of constructing an object in its relationship to details. What are the details selected and according to which criteria ? The author examines the alternative (at the levels of observation and of description) offered by the photographic image. Finally, the irrelevant details (for example, those concerning attitudes of distraction and minimal implication) revealed by photography, become the beginning of a sociological analysis which would specify the characteristics of this minor mode

L'intervalle festif : hypothèses théoriques et problématique de recherche

Multiples dans leur expression empirique, les fêtes semblent bien participer à un monde mouvant et ambigu qui laisse place à des réalités fluides réunissant en elles-mêmes des aspects contraires ou contradictoires. Que l'on regarde La kermesse de Rubens: le tournoiement des coupes dansant, le bariolage des couleurs et l'enchevêtrement des formes selon le rythme musical produisent cet effet d'ondoiement caractéristique de la festivité. Mêlant scène et coulisses, la fête rassemble, à côté d'une ronde de couples dansant et s'embrassant, tout aussi bien, selon des degrés différents de participation, le mioche à la mamelle, l'enfant égaré parmi les regards expectatifs, le jeune homme avide de sa compagne ou le vieillard ivrogne. Enhancing Price Response Programs through Auto-DR: California's 2007 Implementation Experience

This paper describes automated demand response (Auto-DR) activities, an innovative effort in California to ensure that DR programs produce effective and sustainable impacts. Through the application of automation and communication technologies coupled with well-designed incentives and DR programs such as Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) and Demand Bidding (DBP), Auto-DR is opening up the opportunity for many different types of buildings to effectively participate in DR programs. We present the results of Auto-DR implementation efforts by the three California investor-owned utilities for the Summer of 2007. The presentation emphasizes Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E) Auto-DR efforts, which represents the largest in the state. PG&E's goal was to recruit, install, test and operate 15 megawatts of Auto-DR system capability. We describe the unique delivery approaches, including optimizing the utility incentive structures designed to foster an Auto-DR service provider community. We also show how PG&E's Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) and Demand Bidding (DBP) options were called and executed under the automation platform. Finally, we show the results of the Auto-DR systems installed and operational during 2007, which surpassed PG&E's Auto-DR goals. Auto-DR is being implemented by a multi-disciplinary team including the California Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs), energy consultants, energy management control system vendors, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and the California Energy Commission (CEC)

Automated Demand Response Technology Demonstration Project for Small and Medium Commercial Buildings

Small and medium commercial customers in California make up about 20-25% of electric peak load in California. With the roll out of smart meters to this customer group, which enable granular measurement of electricity consumption, the investor-owned utilities will offer dynamic prices as default tariffs by the end of 2011. Pacific Gas and Electric Company, which successfully deployed Automated Demand Response (AutoDR) Programs to its large commercial and industrial customers, started investigating the same infrastructures application to the small and medium commercial customers. This project aims to identify available technologies suitable for automating demand response for small-medium commercial buildings; to validate the extent to which that technology does what it claims to be able to do; and determine the extent to which customers find the technology useful for DR purpose. Ten sites, enabled by eight vendors, participated in at least four test AutoDR events per site in the summer of 2010. The results showed that while existing technology can reliably receive OpenADR signals and translate them into pre-programmed response strategies, it is likely that better levels of load sheds could be obtained than what is reported here if better understanding of the building systems were developed and the DR response strategies had been carefully designed and optimized for each site
