An Efficient Fuel Management System to Address the Ongoing Fuel Crisis in Sri Lanka

The economic crisis has made huge impacts on people’s lives to the extent that certain daily tasks no longer feel normal, like pumping fuel from a fuel station. Mental and health conditions of people are deteriorating due to these types of issues which must immediately be addressed. This paper discusses about a proposed fuel management system to eliminate or at least reduce this unnecessary hassle for the public and fuel stations also illustrating and discussing the available systems for the same. New innovative features have been proposed to this system respective to the system already in use which is believed that it will vastly help in managing fuel more efficiently for both distribution and pumping. We also believe that the data collected through the system will also be very useful in making prediction models for the government as well, to make certain decisions. Another aim of this system is eliminating the black market for fuel which has been created putting more pressure on people and the government by a complaint management feature and tracking fraudulent fuel stations using a formula which has been proposed. Thus, we hope this system will aid both for the government and the public for an efficient fuel management

From Classical to Consistent Query Answering under Existential Rules

Querying inconsistent ontologies is an intriguing new problem that gave rise to a flourishing research activity in the description logic (DL) community. The computational complexity of consistent query answering under the main DLs is rather well understood; however, little is known about existential rules. The goal of the current work is to perform an in-depth analysis of the complexity of consistent query answering under the main decidable classes of existential rules enriched with negative constraints. Our investigation focuses on one of the most prominent inconsistency-tolerant semantics, namely, the AR semantics. We establish a generic complexity result, which demonstrates the tight connection between classical and consistent query answering. This result allows us to obtain in a uniform way a relatively complete picture of the complexity of our problem

Ethics disclosure as a strategy: Evidence from a longitudinal case study

This paper contributes to discussion within the Journal of Business Ethics regarding reputationbuilding by contemporary business organisations. Based on numerous contributions fromprevious research, this study provides a longitudinal case study about a tea producer from adeveloping economy, one of the country’s largest exporters, that is targeting a global market. The firm established a solid reputation and good stakeholder relationships by consciouslyadopting ethical business practices inherent in the owner’s family and religious values. ApplyingSpiller’s (2000) framework for ethical business practices, this research analysed data collectedin a series of interviews and a content analysis of company annual reports and sustainabilityreports covering 2010 to 2016. The findings are discussed in light of their theoretical andpractical implications, identifying areas for future studies. Keywords: Reputation building, ethical business practic

Is socioeconomic position associated with risk of attempted suicide in rural Sri Lanka? A cross-sectional study of 165 000 individuals

Background: Lower socioeconomic position (SEP) is associated with an increased risk of suicidal behaviour in high-income countries, but this association is unclear in low-income and middle-income countries. Methods: We investigated the association of SEP with attempted suicide in a cross-sectional survey of 165 233 Sri Lankans. SEP data were collected at the household (assets, social standing (highest occupation of a household member), foreign employment and young (≀40 years) female-headed households) and individual level (education and occupation). Respondent-reported data on suicide attempts in the past year were recorded. Random-effects logistic regression models, accounting for clustering, were used to investigate the association of SEP with attempted suicide. Results: Households reported 398 attempted suicides in the preceding year (239 per 100 000). Fewer assets (OR 3.2, 95% CI 2.4 to 4.4) and having a daily wage labourer (ie, insecure/low-income job; OR 2.3, 95% CI 1.6 to 3.2) as the highest occupation increased the risk of an attempted suicide within households. At an individual level, daily wage labourers were at an increased risk of attempted suicide compared with farmers. The strongest associations were with low levels of education (OR 4.6, 95% CI 2.5 to 8.4), with a stronger association in men than women. Conclusions: We found that indicators of lower SEP are associated with increased risk of attempted suicide in rural Sri Lanka. Longitudinal studies with objective measures of suicide attempts are needed to confirm this association
