Water Vapour Effects in Mass Measurement
Water vapour inside the mass comparator enclosure is a critical parameter. In
fact, fluctuations of this parameter during mass weighing can lead to errors in
the determination of an unknown mass. To control that, a proposal method is
given and tested. Preliminary results of our observation of water vapour
sorption and desorption processes from walls and mass standard are reported
Semiclassical and quantum Liouville theory
We develop a functional integral approach to quantum Liouville field theory
completely independent of the hamiltonian approach. To this end on the sphere
topology we solve the Riemann-Hilbert problem for three singularities of finite
strength and a fourth one infinitesimal, by determining perturbatively the
Poincare' accessory parameters. This provides the semiclassical four point
vertex function with three finite charges and a fourth infinitesimal. Some of
the results are extended to the case of n finite charges and m infinitesimal.
With the same technique we compute the exact Green function on the sphere on
the background of three finite singularities. Turning to the full quantum
problem we address the calculation of the quantum determinant on the background
of three finite charges and of the further perturbative corrections. The zeta
function regularization provides a theory which is not invariant under local
conformal transformations. Instead by employing a regularization suggested in
the case of the pseudosphere by Zamolodchikov and Zamolodchikov we obtain the
correct quantum conformal dimensions from the one loop calculation and we show
explicitly that the two loop corrections do not change such dimensions. We then
apply the method to the case of the pseudosphere with one finite singularity
and compute the exact value for the quantum determinant. Such results are
compared to those of the conformal bootstrap approach finding complete

A functional non-central limit theorem for jump-diffusions with periodic coefficients driven by stable Levy-noise
We prove a functional non-central limit theorem for jump-diffusions with
periodic coefficients driven by strictly stable Levy-processes with stability
index bigger than one. The limit process turns out to be a strictly stable Levy
process with an averaged jump-measure. Unlike in the situation where the
diffusion is driven by Brownian motion, there is no drift related enhancement

Liouville field theory with heavy charges. II. The conformal boundary case
We develop a general technique for computing functional integrals with fixed
area and boundary length constraints. The correct quantum dimensions for the
vertex functions are recovered by properly regularizing the Green function.
Explicit computation is given for the one point function providing the first

Female Blow Flies As Vertebrate Resource Indicators
Rapid vertebrate diversity evaluation is invaluable for monitoring changing ecosystems worldwide. Wild blow flies naturally recover DNA and chemical signatures from animal carcasses and feces. We demonstrate the power of blow flies as biodiversity monitors through sampling of flies in three environments with varying human influences: Indianapolis, IN and two national parks (the Great Smoky Mountains and Yellowstone). Dissected fly guts underwent vertebrate DNA sequencing (12S and 16S rRNA genes) and fecal metabolite screening. Integrated Nested Laplace Approximation (INLA) was used to determine the most important abiotic factor influencing fly-derived vertebrate richness. In 720 min total sampling time, 28 vertebrate species were identified, with 42% of flies containing vertebrate resources: 23% DNA, 5% feces, and 14% contained both. The species of blow fly used was not important for vertebrate DNA recovery, however the use of female flies versus male flies directly influenced DNA detection. Temperature was statistically relevant across environments in maximizing vertebrate detection (mean = 0.098, sd = 0.048). This method will empower ecologists to test vertebrate community ecology theories previously out of reach due practical challenges associated with traditional sampling
Advanced Multilevel Node Separator Algorithms
A node separator of a graph is a subset S of the nodes such that removing S
and its incident edges divides the graph into two disconnected components of
about equal size. In this work, we introduce novel algorithms to find small
node separators in large graphs. With focus on solution quality, we introduce
novel flow-based local search algorithms which are integrated in a multilevel
framework. In addition, we transfer techniques successfully used in the graph
partitioning field. This includes the usage of edge ratings tailored to our
problem to guide the graph coarsening algorithm as well as highly localized
local search and iterated multilevel cycles to improve solution quality even
further. Experiments indicate that flow-based local search algorithms on its
own in a multilevel framework are already highly competitive in terms of
separator quality. Adding additional local search algorithms further improves
solution quality. Our strongest configuration almost always outperforms
competing systems while on average computing 10% and 62% smaller separators
than Metis and Scotch, respectively
Generating socially appropriate tutorial dialog
Analysis of student-tutor coaching dialogs suggest that good human tutors attend to and attempt to influence the motivational state of learners. Moreover, they are sensitive to the social face of the learner, and seek to mitigate the potential face threat of their comments. This paper describes a dialog generator for pedagogical agents that takes motivation and face threat factors into account. This enables the agent to interact with learners in a socially appropriate fashion, and foster intrinsic motivation on the part of the learner, which in turn may lead to more positive learner affective states
Closed trajectories of a particle model on null curves in anti-de Sitter 3-space
We study the existence of closed trajectories of a particle model on null
curves in anti-de Sitter 3-space defined by a functional which is linear in the
curvature of the particle path. Explicit expressions for the trajectories are
