A time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation for molecular core-hole dynamics
X-ray spectroscopy is an important tool for the investigation of matter. X
rays primarily interact with inner-shell electrons creating core (inner-shell)
holes that will decay on the time scale of attoseconds to few femtoseconds
through electron relaxations involving the emission of a photon or an electron.
The advent of femtosecond x-ray pulses expands x-ray spectroscopy to the time
domain and will eventually allow the control of core-hole population on
timescales comparable to core-vacancy lifetimes. For both cases, a theoretical
approach that accounts for the x-ray interaction while the electron relaxations
occur is required. Here we describe a time-dependent framework, based on
solving the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation, that is suitable for
describing the induced electron and nuclear dynamics
Quantitative quality indicators for statistics â an application to euro area balance of payment statistics
Quality is a subjective notion and encompasses all aspects of how well a product meets usersâ needs. It is inherently a multi-faceted concept that cannot be easily defined; any chosen definition is likely to change over time as new aspects gain importance following the evolving usersâ needs. The purpose of this paper is threefold; (1) to present a number of quantitative quality indicators, (2) to apply them to measure the quality of balance of payments (b.o.p.) data at the euro area level, and (3) to identify various aspects of data quality that may be enhanced, together with their interrelations with other quality dimensions. The indicators used are compatible with the IMF Data Quality Assessment Framework (DQAF), as defined for b.o.p. statistics, focusing mainly on revisions and consistency. The results obtained from such quantitative indicators may help compilers to set priorities in order to improve the quality of the euro area data still further in dimensions such as accuracy, reliability and serviceability. Additionally, this assessment may help users to understand better the quality of the data, to anticipate the possible size and direction of the forthcoming revisions, and to evaluate the impact of using different datasets in their analysis.
Returning to the source: adaptation and memory in the essays of Monika Maron
In the collection of essays âZwei BrĂŒderâ (2010), the German writer Monika Maron (1941) offers her personal reflections on the causes and consequences of the reunification of Germany and examines the most recent history of her home country from an individual, critical and diachronic perspective. The aim of this current study is to present a brief analysis of each essay with special attention given to how the author focuses on specific moments of time in order to reconstruct two decades of German history and further to reveal how, by reviewing the impact of these essays both individually in their original historical context and also as a volume in modern time, the author seeks not only to reinterpret the past but also to reconcile it with the present
