    Due to hardware complexities, the size of 4th Generation (4G)/Long Term Evolution (LTE) Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices is larger and heavier than typical USB devices. The size of such 4G/LTE USB devices introduces a risk of not maintaining a solid electrical/mechanical connection during static and/or shock/vibrating conditions or of being easily damaged through typical product handling. Presented herein are techniques involving a magnetic holder that provides for the ability to solve these issues in a cost-effective manner.     Design and analysis of a displacement sensor-integrated compliant microgripper based on parallel structure

    This study evaluates the displacement sensitivity of a new compliant microgripper. The microgripper is designed based on a four-bar mechanism and the concept of a compliant mechanism. The effects of the width of the right circular hinge, the thickness of microgripper, and the material properties on the dis-placement sensitivity are considered via using the finite element method. In the beginning, the stress and deformation of the compliant microgripper are evaluated. Subsequently, the displacement of the microgripper is then analyzed. The results showed that the design parameter and the displacement sensitivity have a close relationship. To increase the grasping reliability and measure the displacement or force, a micro-displacement sensor is integrated with the proposed microgripper. Finally, the modeling and analysis of the proposed sensor are conducted

    Evaluating the effect of self-interference on the performance of full-duplex two-way relaying communication with energy harvesting

    In this paper, we study the throughput and outage probability (OP) of two-way relaying (TWR) communication system with energy harvesting (EH). The system model consists two source nodes and a relay node which operates in full-duplex (FD) mode. The effect of self-interference (SI) due to the FD operation on the system performance is evaluated for both one-way full duplex (OWFD) and two-way full duplex (TWFD) diagrams where the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay node collects energy harvesting with the time switching (TS) scheme. We first propose an individual OP expression for each specific source. Then, we derive the exact closed-form overall OP expression for the OWFD diagram. For the TWFD diagram, we propose an approximate closed-form expression for the overall OP. The overall OP comparison among hybrid systems (Two-Way Half-Duplex (TWHD), OWFD, TWFD) are also discussed.  Finally, the numerical/simulated results are presented for Rayleigh fading channels to demonstrate the correction of the proposed analysis

    Picomolar Dichotomous Activity of Gnidimacrin Against HIV-1

    Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has offered a promising approach for controlling HIV-1 replication in infected individuals. However, with HARRT, HIV-1 is suppressed rather than eradicated due to persistence of HIV-1 in latent viral reservoirs. Thus, purging the virus from latent reservoirs is an important strategy toward eradicating HIV-1 infection. In this study, we discovered that the daphnane diterpene gnidimacrin, which was previously reported to have potent anti-cancer cell activity, activated HIV-1 replication and killed persistently-infected cells at picomolar concentrations. In addition to its potential to purge HIV-1 from latently infected cells, gnidimacrin potently inhibited a panel of HIV-1 R5 virus infection of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) at an average concentration lower than 10 pM. In contrast, gnidimacrin only partially inhibited HIV-1 Ă—4 virus infection of PBMCs. The strong anti-HIV-1 R5 virus activity of gnidimacrin was correlated with its effect on down-regulation of the HIV-1 coreceptor CCR5. The anti-R5 virus activity of gnidimacrin was completely abrogated by a selective protein kinase C beta inhibitor enzastaurin, which suggests that protein kinase C beta plays a key role in the potent anti-HIV-1 activity of gnidimacrin in PBMCs. In summary, these results suggest that gnidimacrin could activate latent HIV-1, specifically kill HIV-1 persistently infected cells, and inhibit R5 viruses at picomolar concentrations

    UNIVERSAL RODENT CONTAMINATION PROTECTION COVER PLATE FOR NATURAL CONVECTION PRODUCTS

    Techniques are presented herein that support a universal rodent contamination cover plate for natural convection products. Aspects of the presented techniques encompass a top cover with integrated magnets that may be attached to the top of a piece of equipment (e.g., on-demand, within a poorly managed environment) thus not adding an extra cost to a base design or to a default field installation. Importantly, a solution according to aspects of the presented techniques is scalable to support all product sizes. Further aspects of the presented techniques will work with all flat surface ferrous metallic chassis (thus staying within the top surface footprint and not interfering with other mounting brackets). Additionally, if an enclosure’s top surface is non-metallic or plastic, an add-on adhesive ferrous metallic plate kit may be applied to the equipment surface so that the magnetic cover may be attached. Under still further aspects of the presented techniques, one cover plate stock keeping unit (SKU) may support many products if a chassis width is approximately the same given a certain limit range of depth

    Identifyng Vietnam’s income inequality forms at the provincial level during the 2002-2010 period

    By identifying the different shapes that illustrate an increase or decrease in inequality at the provincial level, this paper allows to distinguish a kind of “temporarily and relatively acceptable” inequalities from an “on the alert” one, and thus provides a more detailed structure for a more complete understanding of the phenomenon. The results at the provincial level in Vietnam indicate that income gap between the richest 20% and the poorest 20% has widened for nine years, from 2002 to 2010, in most provinces (60 to 63). Inequality has reduced in only three provinces. At a more detailed level, it is alarming to note that a large majority of the above unequal provinces (55 to 60) belonged to the “on the alert” shapes A and E. Only five provinces have the “temporarily and relatively acceptable” shapes B and D. The shapes A, E, reflect the fact that the poor are becoming poorer than the average living standard

    The nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) 4'-ethynyl-2-fluoro-2'-deoxyadenosine (EFdA) in preclinical development exhibits improved safety and antiviral activity profiles with minimal drug resistance compared to approved NRTIs. However, the systemic antiviral efficacy of EFdA has not been fully evaluated. In this study, we utilized bone marrow/liver/thymus (BLT) humanized mice to investigate the systemic effect of EFdA treatment on HIV replication and CD4+ T cell depletion in the peripheral blood (PB) and tissues. In particular, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the female reproductive tract (FRT) and gastrointestinal (GI) tract, major sites of transmission, viral replication, and CD4+ T cell depletion and where some current antiretroviral drugs have a sub-optimal effect
