Using formative assessment to influence self- and co-regulated learning: the role of evaluative judgement

Recently, the concept of evaluative judgement has gained attention as a pedagogical approach to classroom formative assessment practices. Evaluative judgement is the capacity to be able to judge the work of oneself and that of others, which implies developing knowledge about one’s own assessment capability. A focus on evaluative judgement helps us to better understand what is the influence of assessment practices in the regulation of learning. In this paper, we link evaluative judgement to two self-regulated learning models (Zimmerman and Winne) and present a model on the effects on co-regulation of learning. The models help us to understand how students can be self-regulated through developing their evaluative judgement. The co-regulation model visualises how the learner can become more strategic in this process through teacher and peer assessment in which assessment knowledge and regulation strategies are shared with the learner. The connections we make here are crucial to strengthening our understanding of the influence of assessment practices on students’ learnin

Homeschooling and the criticism of school: hybridisms and educational (dis)continuities

Since the 1960s, homeschooling has shown growth dynamics updated by the diagnosis of the crisis of capitalism and of educational systems. Because it is practiced by families close to libertarian progressivism, conservative Christianity, or other axiological inspirations, this paper’s approach sought to break with a univocal conception alien to its diversity and to the different degrees of (in)formality of the children’s and young people’s educational daily lives inherent to this educational practice. Therefore, this paper seeks to understand the specificities of Portuguese homeschooling and its increasing social and educational expression, and to reflect on the meanings of the learning it entails. Being unclear about its role on the emancipation of the subjects, homeschooling seems to be contrary to the educational horizons of the child according to the interests of the whole society. This paper confronts school and its way of functioning with the homeschooling rationale in order to search for new epistemologies and new lines of research.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Success at scholl: all curriculum, nothing else!

As regulações necessárias poderiam levar a uma aproximação do ideal: considerar, na avaliação do sucesso escolar, todos os componentes do currículo prescrito e tão-somente eles.<br>Development and the official character of international assessments surveys and national standards of school performance favour the coexistence of a double institutional definition of success at school. The usual ones take into account the curriculum effectively taught, adapt itself to the levels of the pupils and present a rather doubtful reliability. The second one is more objective, but gives a too great weight to what can be measured through standardised tests: the cognitive more than the socio-emotional, the capacities and the knowledge more than the competencies and the relationship to knowledge. Both assessment and ordinary school evaluations are now in conflict. Necessary regulations could move them closer to the ideal, if they employed in order to consider the success at school, all the components of the formal curriculum and them only
