IR finiteness of the ghost dressing function from numerical resolution of the ghost SD equation

    Get PDF
We solve numerically the Schwinger-Dyson (SD hereafter) ghost equation in the Landau gauge for a given gluon propagator finite at k=0 (alpha_gluon=1) and with the usual assumption of constancy of the ghost-gluon vertex ; we show that there exist two possible types of ghost dressing function solutions, as we have previously inferred from analytical considerations : one singular at zero momentum, satisfying the familiar relation alpha_gluon+2 alpha_ghost=0 between the infrared exponents of the gluon and ghost dressing functions(in short, respectively alpha_G and alpha_F) and having therefore alpha_ghost=-1/2, and another which is finite at the origin (alpha_ghost=0), which violates the relation. It is most important that the type of solution which is realized depends on the value of the coupling constant. There are regular ones for any coupling below some value, while there is only one singular solution, obtained only at a critical value of the coupling. For all momenta k<1.5 GeV where they can be trusted, our lattice data exclude neatly the singular one, and agree very well with the regular solution we obtain at a coupling constant compatible with the bare lattice value.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures (one new figure and a short paragraph added

Rigorous mean-field dynamics of lattice bosons: Quenches from the Mott insulator

    Get PDF
We provide a rigorous derivation of Gutzwiller mean-field dynamics for lattice bosons, showing that it is exact on fully connected lattices. We apply this formalism to quenches in the interaction parameter from the Mott insulator to the superfluid state. Although within mean-field the Mott insulator is a steady state, we show that a dynamical critical interaction UdU_d exists, such that for final interaction parameter Uf>UdU_f>U_d the Mott insulator is exponentially unstable towards emerging long-range superfluid order, whereas for Uf<UdU_f<U_d the Mott insulating state is stable. We discuss the implications of this prediction for finite-dimensional systems.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, published versio

Infrared Features of the Landau Gauge QCD

The infrared features of Landau gauge QCD are studied by the lattice simulation of β=6.0,164,244,324\beta=6.0, 16^4, 24^4, 32^4 and β=6.4,324,484\beta=6.4, 32^4, 48^4. We adopt two definitions of the gauge field; 1) UU-linear 2) logU\log U and measured the gluon propagator and ghost propagator. Infrared singularity of the gluon propagator is less than that of tree level result but the gluon propagator at 0 momentum remains finite. The infrared singularity of ghost propagator is stronger than the tree level. The QCD running coupling measured by using the gluon propagator and the ghost propagator has a maximum αs(p)1\alpha_s(p)\simeq 1 at around p=0.5GeVp=0.5GeV and decreases as pp approaches 0. The data are analyzed in use of formula of the principle of minimal sensitivity(PMS), the effective charge method and the contour-improved perturbation method, which suggest necessity of the resummation of perturbation series in the infrared region together with existence of the infrared fixed point. Kugo-Ojima parameter saturates at about -0.8 in contrast to the theoretically expected value -1.Comment: RevTex4, 9 pages, 10 eps figures, Typos corrected. To be published in Phys. Rev. D(2004

Photon-Assisted Transport Through Ultrasmall Quantum Dots: Influence of Intradot Transitions

We study transport through one or two ultrasmall quantum dots with discrete energy levels to which a time-dependent field is applied (e.g., microwaves). The AC field causes photon-assisted tunneling and also transitions between discrete energy levels of the dot. We treat the problem by introducing a generalization of the rotating-wave approximation to arbitrarily many levels. We calculate the dc-current through one dot and find satisfactory agreement with recent experiments by Oosterkamp et al. . In addition, we propose a novel electron pump consisting of two serially coupled single-level quantum dots with a time-dependent interdot barrier.Comment: 16 pages, Revtex, 10 eps-figure

The role of brand loyalty and social media in e-commerce interfaces: survey results and implications for user interfaces

    Get PDF
This paper explores the role of brand loyalty and social media in e-commerce interfaces. A survey consisting of 118 respondents was contacted to address the questions relating to online shopping and brand loyalty. Link between the frequency of access and time spent on an e-commerce user interface, and brand loyalty, gender and age profile differences, and the role of social media to branding and on-line shopping was analyzed. It was found that online loyalty differs from offline loyalty and loyalty also differed across genders, showing men were more loyal than women when shopping online. Information shared about products on social media by friends and family played an important role in purchase decision making. Website interface and ease of navigation were also key aspects for online shopping. The research concluded with recommendations to create multimodal websites which are more interactive and targeted so customer experience is enhanced and loyalty is achieved through the use of interactivity and social media

Topological phase transitions in the non-Abelian honeycomb lattice

Ultracold Fermi gases trapped in honeycomb optical lattices provide an intriguing scenario, where relativistic quantum electrodynamics can be tested. Here, we generalize this system to non-Abelian quantum electrodynamics, where massless Dirac fermions interact with effective non-Abelian gauge fields. We show how in this setup a variety of topological phase transitions occur, which arise due to massless fermion pair production events, as well as pair annihilation events of two kinds: spontaneous and strongly-interacting induced. Moreover, such phase transitions can be controlled and characterized in optical lattice experiments.Comment: RevTex4 file, color figure

Roles of the color antisymmetric ghost propagator in the infrared QCD

The results of Coulomb gauge and Landau gauge lattice QCD simulation do not agree completely with continuum theory. There are indications that the ghost propagator in the infrared region is not purely color diagonal as in high energy region. After presenting lattice simulation of configurations produced with Kogut-Susskind fermion (MILC collaboration) and those with domain wall fermion (RBC/UKQCD collaboration), I investigate in triple gluon vertex and the ghost-gluon-ghost vertex how the square of the color antisymmetric ghost contributes. Then the effect of the vertex correction to the gluon propagator and the ghost propagator is investigated. Recent Dyson-Schwinger equation analysis suggests the ghost dressing function G(0)=G(0)= finite and no infrared enhancement or αG=0\alpha_G=0. But the ghost propagator renormalized by the loop containing a product of color antisymmetric ghost is expected to behave as r=G(q2)q2_r =-\frac{G(q^2)}{q^2} with G(q2)q2(1+αG)G(q^2)\propto q^{-2(1+\alpha_G)} with αG=0.5\alpha_G = 0.5, if the fixed point scenario is valid. I interpret the αG=0\alpha_G=0 solution should contain a vertex correction. The infrared exponent of our lattice Landau gauge gluon propagator of the RBC/UKQCD is κ=αG=0.5\kappa=\alpha_G=-0.5 and that of MILC is about -0.7. The implication for the Kugo-Ojima color confinement criterion, QCD effective coupling and the Slavnov identity are given.Comment: 13 pages 10 figures, references added and revised. version to be published in Few-Body System

Adiabatic Transfer of Electrons in Coupled Quantum Dots

We investigate the influence of dissipation on one- and two-qubit rotations in coupled semiconductor quantum dots, using a (pseudo) spin-boson model with adiabatically varying parameters. For weak dissipation, we solve a master equation, compare with direct perturbation theory, and derive an expression for the `fidelity loss' during a simple operation that adiabatically moves an electron between two coupled dots. We discuss the possibility of visualizing coherent quantum oscillations in electron `pump' currents, combining quantum adiabaticity and Coulomb blockade. In two-qubit spin-swap operations where the role of intermediate charge states has been discussed recently, we apply our formalism to calculate the fidelity loss due to charge tunneling between two dots.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, to appear in Phys. Level spacings for weakly asymmetric real random matrices and application to two-color QCD with chemical potential

We consider antisymmetric perturbations of real symmetric matrices in the context of random matrix theory and two-color quantum chromodynamics. We investigate the level spacing distributions of eigenvalues that remain real or become complex conjugate pairs under the perturbation. We work out analytical surmises from small matrices and show that they describe the level spacings of large random matrices. As expected from symmetry arguments, these level spacings also apply to the overlap Dirac operator for two-color QCD with chemical potential.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, 1 animation; minor corrections, references added, as published in JHE

Delayed Appearance of High Altitude Retinal Hemorrhages

    Get PDF
When closely examined, a very large amount of climbers exhibit retinal hemorrhages during exposure to high altitudes. The incidence of retinal hemorrhages may be greater than previously appreciated as a definite time lag was observed between highest altitude reached and development of retinal bleeding. Retinal hemorrhages should not be considered warning signs of impending severe altitude illness due to their delayed appearance
