Barriers to EMS assimilation in the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Norway and Switzerland: A Cross regional comparison

    Get PDF
Electronic Meeting Systems (EMS) have the capabilities to support group members in task collaboration. While there have been many case studies and lab experiments on how EMS can support group tasks, large scale macro investigations exploring EMS adoption and use have been practically non-existent. Furthermore, while several EMS assimilation barriers have been suggested, their validation across organizations remains unexplored. In this paper, we describe a global initiative to explore information technology support for task-oriented collaboration in the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Norway and Switzerland. We focus specifically on EMS and investigate their adoption, use and assimilation barriers in organizations across the five regions. Our results suggest that EMS adoption and use is limited across all the regions. A further investigation in EMS assimilation barriers suggests that these barriers differ across the regions and there is little agreement over how they are ranked. Implications of our findings are discussed for practitioners and researchers

Assessment and treatment of distorted schemas in sexual offenders

The aim of this review is to examine the literature related to the assessment and treatment of sex offenders’ distorted schemas. Where appropriate, the review draws upon current insights from the field of social cognition to aid in the critical evaluation of the findings. First, the review considers the various different methodologies for assessing distorted schemas, discussing their strengths and limitations. Second, the review examines the work related to the treatment of sex offenders’ schemas. Suggestions for future research, and the implications for clinical practice, are highlighted in the article

In order to screen for differentially expressed genes that might be useful in diagnosis or therapy of prostate cancer we have used a custom made Affymetrix GeneChip containing 3950 cDNA fragments. Expression profiles were obtained from 42 matched pairs of mRNAs isolated from microdissected malignant and benign prostate tissues. Applying three different bioinformatic approaches to define differential gene expression, we found 277 differentially expressed genes, of which 98 were identified by all three methods. Fourteen per cent of these genes were not found in other expression studies, which were based on bulk tissue. Resultant candidate genes were further validated by quantitative RT-PCR, mRNA in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. AGR2 was over-expressed in 89% of prostate carcinomas, but did not have prognostic significance. Immunohistologically detected over-expression of MEMD and CD24 was identified in 86% and 38.5% of prostate carcinomas respectively, and both were predictive of PSA relapse. Combined marker analysis using MEMD and CD24 expression proved to be an independent prognostic factor (RR = 4.7, p = 0.006) in a Cox regression model, and was also superior to conventional markers. This combination of molecular markers thus appears to allow improved prediction of patient prognosis, but should be validated in larger studies.

Search for a vector-like quark Tâ€Č → tH via the diphoton decay mode of the Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    Get PDF
A search for the electroweak production of a vector-like quark Tâ€Č, decaying to a top quark and a Higgs boson is presented. The search is based on a sample of proton-proton collision events recorded at the LHC at = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. This is the first Tâ€Č search that exploits the Higgs boson decay to a pair of photons. For narrow isospin singlet Tâ€Č states with masses up to 1.1 TeV, the excellent diphoton invariant mass resolution of 1–2% results in an increased sensitivity compared to previous searches based on the same production mechanism. The electroweak production of a Tâ€Č quark with mass up to 960 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming a coupling strength ÎșT = 0.25 and a relative decay width Γ/MTâ€Č < 5%

Clonally resolved single-cell multi-omics identifies routes of cellular differentiation in acute myeloid leukemia

Inter-patient variability and the similarity of healthy and leukemic stem cells (LSCs) have impeded the characterization of LSCs in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and their differentiation landscape. Here, we introduce CloneTracer, a novel method that adds clonal resolution to single-cell RNA-seq datasets. Applied to samples from 19 AML patients, CloneTracer revealed routes of leukemic differentiation. Although residual healthy and preleukemic cells dominated the dormant stem cell compartment, active LSCs resembled their healthy counterpart and retained erythroid capacity. By contrast, downstream myeloid progenitors constituted a highly aberrant, disease-defining compartment: their gene expression and differentiation state affected both the chemotherapy response and leukemia's ability to differentiate into transcriptomically normal monocytes. Finally, we demonstrated the potential of CloneTracer to identify surface markers misregulated specifically in leukemic cells. Taken together, CloneTracer reveals a differentiation landscape that mimics its healthy counterpart and may determine biology and therapy response in AML

Measurement of the Higgs boson inclusive and differential fiducial production cross sections in the diphoton decay channel with pp collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

The measurements of the inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections of the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of photons are presented. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collisions data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1^{−1}. The inclusive fiducial cross section is measured to be σfidσ_{fid}=73.4−5.3+5.4^{+5.4}_{−5.3}(stat)−2.2+2.4^{+2.4}_{−2.2}(syst) fb, in agreement with the standard model expectation of 75.4 ± 4.1 fb. The measurements are also performed in fiducial regions targeting different production modes and as function of several observables describing the diphoton system, the number of additional jets present in the event, and other kinematic observables. Two double differential measurements are performed. No significant deviations from the standard model expectations are observed
